Toyota joining the game too late? I guess it’s hard to answer.
The BZ4X will turn some heads once it hits the road. I suspect it would be well in and above the RAV4 price range.
40c or 4c?
Yes its 40c.
It couldn't be 40c per km over the limit. That would be a crazy charge. VW are 4 or 6c,
Lol, four grand for going 10k over the limit?
More rubbish being spouted on this thread. Excess mileage is only considered if you are handing the car back and walking away (20K per year with VW) and it's 4c per kilometer. The thread that keeps on giving…
What goes for VW doesn't apply to all other brands by default, so take it easy there.
You are correct when you say the penalty for extra miles is applied when you give the car back and walk away, however that is only on paper.
I have returned 2 cars to Toyota, before the PCP term, in order to get another car, never they discussed the mileage with me, it was the market value less their profit.
In what concerns the 4c penalty, that may be the case for VW. For Toyota, this is 19c per km.
Is it possible that (once again) a dealer has seen you coming @vimalandrew?
I think I should stay on my current lexus for years to come. Buying a new car every two years for a middle class person is not wise and could make me bankrupt. Also my current lexus rz is very very efficient. For example, on a weekend day, driving from morning to night, my previous bz4x would have 30 percent of charge left at the end of the day, whereas lexus rz has 65 percent of the battery left.
Next October, new bz4x and lexus rz with big batteries are coming and I think it is going to change the game.
I really should unsubscribe from this thread, but it's one of the most entertaining left on boards.
It's certainly entertaining 😆 it always makes me smile.
Have half followed this thread since the beginning. Am I correct in saying that the BZ4X has been far better than originally expected?
I know when it was introduced there was the recall with the wheels, the not very fast high DC charging speeds and the general Toyota hate from the usual EV crowd on here.
Wheels were never a real issue. Rapid gating was a much bigger, real issue. I think originally Toyota was also keeping a very large buffer in reserve so that it could meet its battery warranty. Which meant very limited range. Have they relinquished a bit of that buffer since they first released?
You can replace the word Toyota with any brand of EV and your post may still stand correct 😂
I was trying to cut through the online bullshit before buying one, so I reached out to owners of the car. Everything I got back was positive.
If you only listened to the online reviews, you would think it's a total dog, it isn't, and I traded in a Tesla Model 3 for it.
Toyota had teething problems with too large a buffer and slow dc charging. They've since added a battery heater, released some of the buffer, added a heat pump and made other little tweaks that all together make it a good car.
It will do a dc charge from 10-80% in about 30 minutes, which is fine. There's faster out there for sure and a method of preconditioning would be preferable too.
Efficiency is good, I'm averaging 16.2 kwh/100km since I picked it up in February. I did 180km last week, no motorway and it showed 12.8 or something like that. In this warmer weather my total average is 13.4kwh/100km. My M3 averaged 15.1 on 19's over the 2 years of ownership, but the M3 cheats slightly in that it doesn't count the usage at a standstill, the bZ does.
Motorway at 9 degrees and dry, I was able to get 320 kms from the 64kwh battery, If I had kept driving on the drive last week, It would've done 500 kms.
It's comfortable, well equipped and comes with a 10 year warranty if you service it with Toyota every year. First 3 services are free, breakdown cover for 3 years and a great dealer network. The best thing about it is the limo like space in the back, it's great for the family.
Infotainment isn't the best, but I use AA or carplay, hands free kit isn't very clear either, I find it difficult to talk for too long on it.
I wish it was Awd or Rwd as you get a bit of torque steer which is unpleasant when you put your foot down, it's not that type of car, but still.
I got a good deal on mine too, 38k when this model was 52k only a couple of years ago😲. I wouldn't have paid the 43k they retail at now, maybe for the facelift when it appears.
@JohnySwan, 38k was a great price. No doubt, it took the sting out of depreciation on the M3.
When looking at the rest of the prices across the Toyota line up (including the CHR and RAV4), even at 43k it looks decent value.
Ya, the CHR is mad money in comparison. The new CHR electric look nice though, pricing will be interesting.
Think the 2024 BZ4X changed the game for Toyota, but certainly the early models did them no favours at all.
Agreed, first impressions and all that.
new off-road version coming, its longer, and has a slighly larger battery, more power from dual motors

I'm partial to an estate, not sure what to make of that though. Good to see Toyota finally joining the party.
I found new version of RAV4 will be presented on 20th May. I thought there will be an EV version of RAV4. It looks like there is not much chance for an EV version of RAV4 on seeing this.
Also, 74 KW battery. anyway 10KW more than current bz4x. But still Kia EV9 has 98KW battery, BYD Sea Lion has 95KW battery! somebody in youtube mentioned that chinese/ Korean EVs have bigger batteries and too much weight and is not good.
A review
They have bigger batteries but are significantly less efficient than the likes of the smaller stuff in the Tesla, EV6, eNiro etc etc
So you’re paying for the bigger battery just so the car can advertise an acceptable WLPT.
New one finally looks decent.
You know Ive grown to like the wheel arch and under door cladding. It's distinctive and protects paint.
And considering how much abuse it got at the start, have a look around at other brands. There's a few with very similar " inspiration"....
And after 2 years I've found it to be comfortable, efficient, all the software works, all the time ( but is a bit clunky UI). Useable battery is the biggest issue. With another 10kwh useable, it would be a class leader and a safe buy for anyone.
All the heat Toyota take over the bz4X, meanwhile Hyundai/Kia suffering from ICCU failures, reduction gearbox failures, drive motor bearing failures.
Ugh no. That slab front is fugly.
A safe buy is pretty much the foundation stone of Toyota's business.
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that LandCruiser price in Ireland shows 140,000. Now the website shows only 71,000. Probably they changed to a two seater commercial version.

Recently stayed in Mill Park Hotel, has 3 Tesla Destination chargers. Type 2 so tried my BZ4X, would not charge. Charger was good as a Tesla connected to the same one later. Looking at Plugshare, a Kia and Mercedes stated they successfully charged.
Any observations?
Thanks
