Slot seems to be a bit ruthless (Chiesa minutes!) and he might have intentionally thrown Trent to the wolves for this game to get the booing out of the way.

Only 1 home game left which everyone wants to be celebrating so getting the boos out of the way for the Arsenal game may have been intentional!

"There are three types of departures that leave a bitter taste in the mouth. An academy product leaving for nothing, a player moving to a rival club and a player moving to one of the worlds wealthiest clubs for nothing. Trent has ticked all three boxes."

I think the best way for the fans to treat Trent would have been with indifference but I don't know, he hasn't helped himself.

It's been clear for a long time where his head was at, and people aren't stupid. I'm sure if he had his way he would got the move last Summer but Real weren't coughing up. That has been clear through his demeanour.

I wish him the best, no hard feelings towards him.

Slot should have brought Jones to RB and brought on Endo to avoid all that Trent nonsense. But it’s not the first time we were a goal up late on and Endo is left warming the bench.

11 goals between Jota and Nunez in the league, pitiful return, both have to be replaced.

Unrealistic to expect Salah to score 30 goals again next season, a striker is the highest priority signing.

Yeah agreed. Salah had a legendary season this year but has run out of puff in recent weeks. We need others to be able to step up.

As regards Trent, I think it's best if he isn't named in the matchday squad for the last two games. I think fans are entitled to be disappointed with how he behaved. He's a mood killer at this stage. Hand him his medal and wish him well by all means, but for the 180 minutes that are left in the season we can use some of the squad players.

Tbh, and im something of a defender, Jota has played the equivalent of 12 full PL games in minutes terms and has 6 goals (i.e a goal every 2 games).

    Vital goals as well.

The problem is definitely his availability

EDIT: Though applying the same logic to Nunez gets him to 5 goals in 11 games but I refuse to accept what my eyes so clearly tell me in that case!

I said at the time when it was announced Trent was leaving he should never have been picked again for the team and yesterday made it even more obvious why that's the case.

The funny thing is, in most other high level professions who you tell the company you work for that you're leaving they basically don't even let you back in the building. Often the expectation is that you'll pack you stuff and go on gardening leave to see out contract leave requirements, other places might give you a week etc but nearly all of them move you off major projects almost immediately.

No idea why the expectation isn't the same in football and with Trent. The club need to learn to survive without him, best start doing that immediately rather than dragging it out.

I wouldn't have boo'd Trent, I don't think he's worth it. But I think the people who clapped him are worse than the people who boo'd him and if I was in the stadium I'd be very tempted to boo to drown out the clapping. He's purposely shafted the club to help benefit Real Madrid. Why people think he should be celebrated is beyond me.

Thiago was worth it if for no other reason at all just to be able to watch him play when fit. He was fantastic to watch.

So it wasn't them that beat us to a champion's league win in 2018? Course they are our rivals. In european competition we have no bigger rival imo.

Ancelotti confirmed to be leaving Real (and going to Brazil)

Maybe Trent won't want to go now 😋

If he wasn’t scouse English most wouldn’t be bothered esp the media .

I mean, obviously this is the case? The fact he is a Liverpool local is the whole story, I'm not sure why you think the coverage is a big conspiracy.

For Liverpool fans who are actually from Liverpool he is getting to live their dream and now he's leaving, of course it's a huge deal to them. He is like the embodiment of them in the team, a local lad who came right through the system. He's a rarity in an era where teams at Liverpool's level don't usually have talismanic local players.

If TAA was just someone we had bought at 16/17 like we did with Sterling it would obviously not be such a surprise to see him leave.

I think the way he has done it is shite, to be honest. Yea he's given a lot but he has deliberately screwed the club to ensure more money in his pocket. It's not hard to see how many are annoyed about it.

Had a 2hr flight today so had to spend my time in the best way possible

The entire BBC Radio5Live commentary of the Barcelona 4-0 game

It's so so so so good. Ian Dennis believed in the comeback from the very start.

Everyone keeps saying Trent has won everything he can win at Liverpool but I would have to disagree. He hasn't won no.21, or no. 22 or no. 23 or no. 7 and so on. Surely as a local lad pushing the club further and further ahead of their domestic rivals should be motivation enough for him but I guess not.

I don't like the way he's leaving — but life is just more complicated than that. Like, at the end I'm sure it's nice to be able to point towards some figures on a list, but there is actually an actual life there that has to be lived beyond what comes up in the record books. I can totally see how in your mid-20s after living your whole life in one city, as much as you might love that city, the possibility of some exciting change is a genuine draw. Amidst all the ups and downs of a career, the vast majority of his years in the team are just a copy/paste of the same stringent routines day in day out, week in week out, year in year out.

Roy Keane on the overlap last year said one of his biggest regrets was not moving abroad to Italy or Spain at some stage during his career to experience a different football culture, and life culture. I can totally get that. I'd be livid if Trent was moving elsewhere in England, but I can understand the draw for a totally completely new experience. As a Liverpool fan I don't like or support his choice, but I get it.

Roy Keane DID move abroad. He was born in Cork. 😄

Ha, I knew a comment like that would be coming, so I quickly edited - though not quickly enough it seems 😅

He was talking about opportunities to move to Turin or Milan or Madrid etc though. To vary his life, as so much of it just melds together with routine (which I'm sure plenty of us can appreciate, where years at work can have little delineation).

I'd be worried about Jota next season. I think his injuries are starting to catch up on him. It's concerning that he picks up injuries without barely breaking a sweat. It's difficult to see him returning to the player he once was.

If it's not broke don't fix it, and yet we seem determined to pull this team apart this summer

Give me a proper No9, replace Trent, plus a centre back, Done.

Robertson is good for another season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,503 ✭✭✭GiftofGab

Sell Nunez, get a starting no. 9. Jota used for rotation.

Buy an experienced RB to cover for Bradley.

Buy an upcoming CB to eventually replace Van Dijk.

Sell Kostas and buy a starting LB. Robertson used as cover.

Midfield will be tricky if Elliot wants out.

Slot deserves to get some of his own players in.

Primeira Liga all square at the top, Sporting are top, which is remarkable without the absolute genius that is Amorim .

Arsenal are after their striker, Viktor Gyokeres , who has now overtaken Salah is the race for the European golden shoe.

Thierry Henry (Arsenal), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Luis Suarez (Liverpool) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City) are the only four Premier League players to have won the award this century.

Would be great to see Salah win it. Salah has two games left , Viktor Gyokeres has one, Salah needs to score a couple .

Lewandowski a threat, now back from injury, he could hit a few goals, Mbappe 3rd,, hat trick against Bara puts him one goal behind Salah on 27

Also Ibou will probably be going to madrid this time next year as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,503 ✭✭✭GiftofGab

It would be really bad running of the club if that was to happen. Salah, Van Dijk and Trent all had their contracts run down this season. Now Ibou end of next season. We just can't allow that to happen.

    Slot’s in Ibiza…

The rest of the season might not be a priority lol

Konate needs a big increase in salary, on far too little, he's sign on if it was over 200k

I hope Trent gets brought on in the final game against Palace and receives the response he deserves from the crowd.

Surely it’s only the absolute minority that have a problem with him leaving ? I would love to hear and see him get a standing ovation.

I’ve also heard over the years about money he has donated and initiatives he has been involved in on Merseyside. The guy is a legend.

If fans want to be angry then it should be directed at the club. If they have a policy to allow players runs down their contract then we should be angry with that. I know it’s more complicated than this but surely with 24 months left it’s a case of - ‘sign or be sold’. No excuses or exceptions.

I read a story once about when Jack Charlton was Newcastle manager. He wanted Peter Beardsley to come back from Canada and play for him. Beardsley was happy to stay in Canada but Jack persisted. When it came to money Beardsley was on £400 a week in Canada. Jack said ‘no problem, we’ll take care of you’. Beardsley made the effort and returned to Newcastle and was told ‘we can only afford to give you £325 per week’. He’d already returned. He accepted it.

Clubs deserve EVERYTHING they get for their years of antics and they, with their absolute greed, have given the game Agents. Without agents players would still be getting taken advantage of in every single deal.

Trent is a LFC legend and seems to be a sound human too.

We can't force him to sign a new contract. If he is refusing to sign a new contract then serious thought will have to be given to selling him this summer and getting some sort of transfer fee.
