    Trent owes us nothing.

Fans are entitled to feel how they feel.

Trent can want, but can't expect, positivity from the fans.

Booing him is pointless and stupid.

All of these things can be true.

Wouldn't have given Trent the excuse of being booed. He can pout away.

While I think booing was pointless and stupid, the ex-players, pundits and rivals who are suggesting that Trent is the victim here are insane or gaslighting.

Over a number of years he has orchestrated a move to a European rival, who we've lost multiple times to in the CL in recent years, and playing to their tune in making sure the club didn't get any fee for him.

This wasn't a normal transfer saga. He was Madrid's bítch, all while playing the fans for morons by doing his cryptic celebration shíte whenever he scored.

He must lie in the bed he's made with the fans in that city.

Scousers are different, clichéd as that may sound, but it's true. This Trent move cuts deep with them and they let their feelings be known in no uncertain terms today. The mock outrage from all the usual media quarters shows how little they understand of the psyche there. Gives them plenty to write about over the coming week at least.

Thought it was all on Slot to be honest - why make that change at that point of the game with little or no benefit to be had? Changed the atmosphere immediately also. I just want Trent gone myself at this stage - don't really see the point of including him in squads either. No way I'd boo him if I was at the game but no way would I be wishing him all the best either. Looks like he's heading into another shitshow at Madrid although the arrival of Alonso should calm things down somewhat.

I can't sit here as an armchair supporter from Ireland tell fans in Liverpool what to think but to me it felt petty and undeserved but I understand it too.

Bradley is not the answer, the heart is willing, the attitude is there, but he's not ready, that we see game in game out. Ideally he'd be out on loan, but with no cover that won't happen.

We need to sign a flightless bird for right back position. Florentina has one

Dodo is not what we need. I'm not even sure he's what my other team (la viola) need but he's there regardless. He's too small and is almost always out of position and making dumb challenges.

He had an excellent first half. Not so great in the second when everyone was rubbish.

I thought Frimpong is the target at right back.

    ^^^^^
on the RB position , is Joe Gomez not a rb.. I know he has played CB but I thought he was a better rb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,175 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Joe is an excellent utility player, he can play acroaa the back 4,put in a great spell at LB a while back. He's not a great option going forward from RB though, limited in attack. I know Slot asks different Rhonda of fullbacks than Klopp did, but Gomez as a first choice RB is not the answer long term IMHO.

He's also coming off another bad injury, so I wonder how he'll come back this time. Be in bonus territory of he comes back at 100% again.

Bradley is still very unproven, both in terms of how robust he is and how consistent he can be over a large run of games.

They go past him just as easily the other way. He was born out of position and has lived there since. He'd make Trent look like a defensive genius.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,745 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

More of a wingback apparently, not an out and out right back .

Alonso will play Trent as a wingback at Real no doubt .

reading a lot of English scribes of course the media going to town on us and the other clubs fans joining in no surprises . If he wasn’t scouse English most wouldn’t be bothered esp the media .

''They go past him just as easily the other way''

    Perfect replacement then 😄

Trent had the benefit of coming in to the team at a young age and was given the right back role as his without being rotated too much.

Bradley is only 21 years old and has been a sub for Trent for the last 2 years. To write him off now when the obvious potential is there is ridiculous.

He should be given the position as his for next season and then be judged after 1 full season.

Just bear in mind that this is the same media who will absolutely crucify Trent whenever he's had a nightmare wearing the England jersey. All needs to be put into context.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,679 ✭✭✭decies

well the context is most of them hate us anyway and am fine with that .

I was at the game. I couldn't believe he was booed. I just couldn't boo one of our own players. Each to their own I suppose.

    It killed the atmosphere anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭klose

You’d have assumed somebody at the club might had told Slot bringing Trent in would probably sour the atmosphere and it was probably best he sat out the season, granted Bradley was tired but could have stuck Endo or jones there instead.

Trent can’t have his cake and eat it, definite vibe from local vans seems to be Trent strung the club along here with the contract situation. Of course the club had ample opportunities to sell him if they felt it would go this way. Not sure how I feel on the booing, like I said he can’t expect to ride off into the sunset with no backlash either.

Bellingham was in the Madrid box in Paris for the 2022 final and I reckon the wheels were set in motion from there.

That interview in October where he picks his number 1 career goal as wanting to win a Balon D'or over winning another CL with Liverpool, being Liverpool captain or winning a world cup with England was telling.

I think Slot achieving the success he has this season has put a fly in the ointment for Trent's camp as they probably expected Liverpool to not win anything this year with a top 4 place being acceptable and giving Trent an easy "out".

Trent didn't just decide in March that he was going to leave Liverpool. He only decided to tell Liverpool then officially.

Why fans are so pissed is because he would have known this time last year too. He could have signed a 1 or 2 year extension for Liverpool to get some money for him but he followed the Real Madrid play sheet of running your contract down and pocketing the large signing on fee yourself and leave your club with nothing.

This isn't the same as Mbappe leaving PSG to Real Madrid under the same circumstances. PSG are bank rolled with oil money where Liverpool have to trade within our means.

It really is such a strange end to the season. IMO we havent played consistently well since February and yet have won the league at basically a canter. I think this summer is one of the most important transfer windows since the 2019/20 season.

We have gaps in our squad that i hope we can fill this summer. To my mind we need a replacement for Robertson, Trent, a backup defensive midfielder to give Grav a rest (unless Slott trusts Endo more time next season) replacement for Jota and Nunez. No easy task.

The trent thing is sad and i dont like seeing any of our players getting boo'd but i can understand where some fans are coming from. Still wasnt nice to see though.

Why would he do something that would directly reduce the signing on bonus he would otherwise receive by just honouring his contract and leaving at the end of it?

If Liverpool wanted to guarantee they'd receive a transfer fee should Trent leave the club they should have offered him a contract he couldn't possibly refuse 2 years ago but they didn't (they may have offered him contracts he found easy to refuse) so now there's no transfer fee. That's life. You live with the choices and decisions you make. Trent owes the club nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,988 ✭✭✭Enzokk

You are just confirming why people were so vocal against him yesterday. His actions were only for himself and he owes them nothing, so they owe him nothing and they can boo him if they want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 382 ✭✭JimboJones99

Not nice to hear Trent being booed, personally I wouldnt have done so if I was there but he seemed genuinely shocked. Why? He has made a personal decision that had no thought for the club.

These Madrid talks are probably 24 months in the making and based on their recent transfer history it is likely they instructed him to run down his contract if he wanted a move. Inevitably once it is announced he is signing for Real the journalist pieces will come out as to what was going on in the background and it will be interesting to see what the club offered him. I suspect no offer would have been enough and so he always knew the club were going to lose out on a substantial transfer fee which I think would have softened the blow for everyone.

I see statements like he owes nothing to the club and maybe thats true but the club (& fans) have also invested 20 years in him and at times protected him when his performance levels have not been where they should be, he certainly wont be given that luxury at his new club, so I think it is a bit egotistical of him to expect everyone to laud him in his final days. This has only served to remind me of what a great servant Steven Gerrard really was.

Another Bradley observation, 4 yellow in 600 prem minutes.

That seems high enough to me. He gets a tad rattled maybe but also something that could well sort itself when he eventually gets a run of games.

I can see Trent picking up a "knock" this week and that will be that.
