Really excellent episode. Picking up now. Last 10 minutes in particular.

    Correct, they can.

There is also an enormous amount of the anti-woke crowd piling onto the show for the reasons I pointed out. And for other reasons too. It must be exhausting to for your mind to always ibe in that state.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,516 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

I wouldn't think the ringleaders find it all that exhausting because they don't actually believe in half the stuff they're saying. Packaging and selling hate is the easiest grift you will find on the Internet. There are even some content creators out there that started out absolutely harmless, but saw where the money was and embraced it.

In regards to the people who actually believe in it, I would agree that it must be a very sad state to be in, full of anger.

Good start and finish to the episode. I didn't particularly have a problem with how Ellie handled that but it will be interesting to see if that continues.

It kind of feels like it is setting Ellie up to be the leaders of the loopers with the face scars.....she is immune so they will think she is sent from on high? But who knows never played the game lol

The thing with the spores is going to make things very interesting!

Somewhat middling latest episode, which struggled to keep attention. Bogged down for large portions despite it's svelte runtime, but far better once the Seraphites appeared and when Ellie was separated.

The "omg I shouldn't have brought you here, you're pregnant" part seemed really rushed and poorly acted. Thought the rest was good.

    Loved the episode.
    They mentioned a 3rd season
With what’s to cover I can only assume the last act of the game will be season 3.
Still no sign of Abby and there’s only two episodes left….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,435 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

    Another cracking episode.

I remember reading there was a bottle epsidode about Eugene this season. If so, only one episode to tie up "current events" seems a stretch so you'd assume a longer last episode.

And then onto Season 3 will be where they focus on Abby and then tie both of their narratives up.

That said, waiting until 2027 to finish the story will be such a bummer.

Really enjoyed that, pace moving along quickly. Was great hearing future days, i washed to hear more but might be a bit indulgent after the song last episode. Increasing to hear Craig wanted a different song and kinder but Neil insisted that it be the original song and short, good call by Neil i think.

The spores were class, that hole section was like something or if a horror movie and they nailed it.

Anyway, great season and finale. So happy when Ellie wakes up and realises it was all a dream.

I loved the Basement scene, atmospheric and legit full of horrors.

I'm not a gamer in any sense, so I don't have any hangups about what characters look like, who's playing them etc. But it's always the same with adaptations, you have weirdos who are way too married to the source material that any differences are taken as slights on not only them, but the entire fanbase. They really should get over themselves in my opinion.

    Dunno about the spores.

They've been in plenty of spore heavy places before & it never got a mention that it could affect you.

The Wolves not entering the park is also a bit daft, it wasn't exactly sprawling & they have automatic weapons. You'd think a single unit in daylight would wipe them out with their bow & arrows.

Yeah there always have to be concessions made in translating something from one medium to another, and in fairness to the showrunners they've also taken advantage of this in many ways. Something like Bill & Frank's episode last season was completely different to how it happens in the game, but they used the advantages of it being TV to do something far, far better. Or being able to see the likes of Isaac's backstory or him torturing the guy.

Likewise, part of Joel's story in the show was about how he didn't think he was able to get Ellie to the Fireflies because of how he was older, slower, hesitated more, hearing wasn't as good etc. Whereas in the game, because of gameplay he'd killed dozens if not hundreds of infected and even a good few humans (scavengers/raiders) by that point, so him being afraid like that wouldn't have made any sense.

People will complain when the show deviates from the game, without accepting that oftentimes it's both necessary and even better in some respects.

Good episode. Season 2 does feel a bit different to season 1 with alot more action sequences. Didn't really feel bad at the killing, they haven't really given us anything to care about the WLF members.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,232 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

One bugbear that I only realised I have on reflection. How did Dina not know that Ellie was immune to being bitten? Surely her situation would be the talk of the town no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,540 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

No one knows apart from Joel, Ellie and the fireflies. It's why Joel killed them all as he knew that they'd keep coming for her to try and make a cure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,687 ✭✭✭✭Penn

And why Ellie both intentionally burned her original bite scar and then later got a tattoo over it. As she said in the previous episode, she wanted to be able to wear short sleeved tops again.

They were brought into and made part of the town because Joel was Tommy's brother. It was never made common knowledge that Ellie was immune. Tommy knows because Joel told him when explaining why he wanted Tommy to take Ellie to the Fireflies. I'm guessing Tommy's wife knows too, can't remember if that was said but it's likely he told her. Nobody else knows though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,232 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Did not know that, that explains it. Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,435 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

To be fair, the Scars are excellent at stealth, have incredible accuracy with bows and the park is wildly overgrown. An automatic weapon ain't gonna do anything if you get nabbed quietly. The WLF going in and firing wildly will only get them killed. There's also LOADS of them, it's not just the small number we've seen.

I didn't know that when I made the comment. Big whoop.

Decent episode again but not sure they nailed the end of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,083 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Did have to laugh at how accurate it is to games that both the Wolves and Scars go after Ellie and pretty much as soon as she is out of sight they just go back to their positions, as if she had never been seen.

Really not liking this season at all.

Before I start, I don't like Abby because she killed Joel, and regardless of the shock value or the reasons behind it or whatever the writer(s) were trying to "teach" us, I think it's a huge mistake to kill off a much loved main character so soon. That was my problem with the game, before any of this "anti-woke" or "homophobic" nonsense comes my way. It was never about that for me.

I don't like this season for the following reasons.

    1. The writing is terrible
    2. With the exception of Joel and Dina, the acting is mediocre at best
    3. The pacing is all off. Like completely off. "Oh my God, we just survived a horde attack. Oh my God, I just found out you're immune. Oh my God, you're pregnant. Oh my God, let's have sex, after you've been bitten and let's not question your immunity. Oh my God, let's fall asleep together when either, Ellie could turn or Dina could shoot her and then spend the next morning talking about Dina and not Ellie to Dina about her immunity, despite being the only person known to be immune in the entire world" All in the space of 15 minutes
    4. Ramsey is getting the **** from the public because the lines they're feeding her are awful. It's not Ellie at all. If anything, Dina is Ellie the way it's coming across
    5. How did Jesse know where to find them? How did he know about the Theatre?

    I could go on…

    Positives…

The set pieces look fantastic and the actress who plays Dina is brilliant. Nora scene was done really well, even though the it was stupid how Ellie got into the hospital (Dog trained to sniff out trespassers is not let off leash to suss it out) Issac backstory

For me, I find it a slog. And it kinda has been since the escape from Kansas episode for me in S1

Feel free to agree or disagree. I ain't here to ruin anyone's enjoyment

Yipee, thank you so much for the post Mor 316, I agree!

I'm absolutely hating this season. Now it did start really well, I loved them in the compound getting to know the characters like the shrink etc and the attack on compound was outstanding but once they killed Joel it was game over for me.

I can't cope with all the different ' ememies' they keep meeting. There is no story or substance to any of them. It's just turned into a ' game'. I'm sure that's grand for those of you who are mad about the game but I've no interest. I want an actual storyline with emotion and feeling, not this crap.

Bella and Dina are grand they really are but they can't carry it on their own, they need older more in depth characters.

I'm nearly not bothered watching the rest of it, that's how disheartened I am after last night. When she got out that guitar again, I just said to my husband feck this crap.

Patience patience. Did you notice the flashback just before the credits?

Have a gander at the preview for episode 6:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭MOR316

I know how it all pans out…But if this season is Ellie's perspective, and if it ends on the Theatre scene…It'll be disaster. There's literally so much skipped and nothing has been fleshed out. It genuinely feels like a road trip romcom at times. Ellie is forgetting that she's there for revenge over Joel. It's not Ramsey's fault. She's been given ****. This isn't Ellie. Ellie wasn't stupid and the writers are literally making the character look thick as pig ****

Also, The Scars' territory is the woods. And it's literally next door to the hospital that is the WLF territory. And they're killing a wolf right next to a WLF base and nothing is been done about it?

Nah…Pacing, dialogue and common sense is just out the window on this season for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,975 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Yeah. I was worried she was going to hook it up to the amps seeing as she had turned all the lights on!

There were a lot of holes last night .

Dina's long story about her mother and sister while they were walking down the middle of a street but trying to not be seen?

Surely Nora knew it was certain death to go near the lifts to the basement ? Why did she not try to stand and fight and at least die uninfected ?

How did Jesse find them and where did Tommy go ?

The sniffer dog scene was strange when she ducked in that covered hole ..did Ellie get in to the hospital that way ?

It's like they are trying to get as much out of Dina and Ellie and not dealing with the actual plot . No offence to gamers but it was too much like a game for me last night and not a real drama .

I'll watch it to the end but hope next week is better.

I completely disagree. I think Bella Ramsey is superb in the part and the constant criticism of her is almost putting me off this thread to be honest. Both girls are very good I think. Some people who have played the game just seem to want to be dickish about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,733 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Nora went through one shaft door to try and across the lift to get out the other side.

Yes, there was that scene (I think it was the first episode of this season) where Ellie is talking to Tommy about being immune and he tries to sush her up, so she says it out extra loudly “I’m immune”.
