I guess I'm kinda done with this show.

I loved the original game. Played it through about three times. But I thought the show in season 1 was ok, but just ok. I wasn't all that gone on the sequel game, so I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised that I'm not that into Season 2 of the show either.

I'll probably finish out this season. But I've really no interest in sticking the show out for S03…ad nauseam.

    Constant criticism?

Jeeze, I’d say there’s about 5 times as many posts criticising any minor criticisms of Ramsey.

I find these just as tiresome to wade through

Some posters are desperate to validate themselves through white knighting and thanks whoring.

The only redeeming part of the season so far was the horde attack. Reminded me of the attack of the dead in game of thrones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,574 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Agreed. I genuinely don't get the criticism for Ramsey. I think she's excellent in the role.

I get that people were saying the character is annoying but I also found the game character kind of annoying so maybe I don't differentiate :D

Another excellent episode. Thought the performances were great and I find those "smart" infected so creepy! Would love to see more of those.

I feel like if people are not liking this season, then they are really going to be annoyed when season 3 starts and they realise that……………

……. season 3 is going to shift and have Abby as the central character. I feel it will be too jarring for some people.

They really shat the bed by leaving out Eastbrook...

7 episodes is nowhere near enough for the 2nd game. Should have been 10 or split up into 3 seasons

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,549 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

It is split into 3 seasons. The next season will cover 2nd half of the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,714 ✭✭✭✭Sad Professor

They've also hinted at the possibility of a fourth season, presumedly based on the final third of the second game. My guess is HBO want them to split what should be the third season in half and air them a couple of years apart as they tend to do with their big shows. If that's case then next season will probably be even shorter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,549 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I think the 2nd half of the game would already fit a strain of tv. If they stretched it to 4 seasons or a part 1 and 2 of season 3, they'd lose any momentum built up. They should have season 3 cover the rest of the game and leave it at that... Until last of us 3 comes out 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,276 ✭✭✭MOR316

I would be shocked if it gets a 3rd season…

The writing and pacing is all over the shop. It's not bad, but it's a 6 out of 10 imo

Then be prepared to be shocked because hbo renewed it for season 3 before the first episode of 2 even aired 😄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,276 ✭✭✭MOR316

Sorry. Bad wording on my part. I meant 4th. I know it was renewed to cover the rest of the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,549 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Oh yeah, they said e will cover the 2nd half of the 2nd game and will NOT be making any more of the show while they're is no 3rd game. I know they have to be careful about how they word it but sounds like they won't be surpassing the original media like other shows have done.

Surprised how much I enjoyed that. Thought it might be hard to avoid it being corny but it ended up quite poignant.

Presume at this stage we'll never see Ellie go back to SLC which is a shame.

    Ms

I thought this episode would be crap with all the look backs but it actually brings the whole show together and helps us otherstand what happened before the episode where Joel got killed. So ye very well done. A very good episode.

Such a sad episode because we already know that Joel is going to die.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Even better than I expected it to be. They changed some dialogue that made it more powerful than the game. Excellent stuff. Season finale should be good with that part of the story sorted out.

Really just okay for me. Season 1 i liked without any wow factor but this just seems to a going through the motions type production now

😳 Even the final scene in this week's episode? Would like to know what you consider a good tv show. Perhaps having played the games gives me more of a connection to the story but "going through the motions" seems harsh after that. I thought the acting was top drawer.

Never played the games, couldn't give a shite about who looks like who but that was proper acting on the front porch. Would bring a tear to a glass eye! Can't wait for the finale

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

Definitely not my favorite episode of the season. Little slow and lacking in action.

I figured it was coming but I generally don't like when we leave the main action and go to an entire flashback episode.

    Good acting throughout

Thought the whole episode was terrific. The performances were absolutely on point, not just by Pascal & Ramsey, but even the smaller roles like Tony Dalton as Joel's father, and Joe Pantoliano as Eugene (didn't recognise him until I saw his name in the credits).

The Eugene story didn't go the way I expected. In a way it felt a bit more hyped up that there was going to be something very unusual about it, but the way they turned it into a simple lie and tied it in to Joel & Ellie's stories (individually and separately) was really well done and made a lot of sense.

It really does demonstrate what a loss Pedro Pascal is to the show though. He and Ramsey work together so well, and he just absolutely nails every single moment. Ramsey was great in the porch scene, but god damn Pascal was just perfect.

Never played the games, and glad I didn't based on all the hate the game fanboys have for Bella etc. just get over it, or don't watch it.

Thoroughly enjoyed that episode. As mentioned above, Pedro is a big loss to the show, and this episode only highlighted it. That porch scene was just so good, his love for Ellie is just laid out raw and bare when he tells her why he saved her.

We finally get to see what happened to Eugene and that being the catalyst for Ellie realising, just by the promise and expression on Joels face, what happened with the fireflies and the cure.

With that episode being a slow burner, it sets up next week nicely, so really looking forward to the season finale.

Thats a good point. What happened with Joel and Eugene was setup as something significant early in the season. The event of Eugene's death turned out as expected for me but the surprise was how they used it. Joel's throwback to his own father drilled home the difficulties of being a parent and unconditional love. A layered episode with excellent story telling and I agree Pascal nailed the porch scene. Watched it back a few times it was so good.

Well that was **** brilliant! It's mad how they nail the parts plucked straight from the game, scene for scene, line for line but also nail the new parts, just incredible. That porch scene in the game was incredible and i much prefer troy and Ashley's performance but my god, pedro and bella just blew that out of the water.

I was sceptical of the Eugene flashback as a previewer hinted it was a whole episode and i thought it would kill the pace but now realise they meant it as part of a flashback episode and worked much better.

Jesus, season 2 just isn't missing, roll on the finale!

Really good episode this week, but it made me pine for Pascal even more to be honest. Bella is much better along side him. Interested to see where the last episode goes the little clip looks pretty interesting.

Maybe a mad idea but is it possible the psychologist character sold out Joel to get revenge for not seeing her husband one last time?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,899 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

In response to the question in the spoiler tags, no it's absolutely not possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,394 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

Really good episode. Felt like first season of the show with its pacing. Killing off Joel just diminished the story for me. Pity they couldnt have Tommy take a bigger role in last few episodes rather than just being left with Ellie and Dinah who are not as interesting together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,944 ✭✭✭Brian017
The psychologist isn’t in the game. She was written into the story especially for the show as a way to flesh out Joel’s backstory
• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,743 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Well, that was the best episode of the series that you will see.

Some comparisons between show and game from the last episode. Nailed it!
