    Dina: I'm pregnant!

Elle: Let me make sure with a quick drop of the hand.

    😁

For a brief moment, I was wondering was the blood on the broken window in the tv station from someone else we knew on a solo mission, as we hadn't seen Tommy yet. Now I'm thinking seraphites who killed the wolves in the station.

Liked the episode, the train car scene was intense.

As someone who played the game I'd suggest keeping game spoilers to the thread in the gaming forum. For example

Has there been any indication that Tommy is on his own mission? I don't think there has.

Thread appears to be bonked for me anyway. Just when the show was getting good :)

Agreed, here is the link for anyone who played the games and wants to talk openly about the show and speculate What's to come.

I think it was to show that she has no plans on sticking around in Seattle once she completes her revenge tour. Has no care for the place and had performed her tribute to Joel.

But what about someone else who might fancy playing a perfectly preserved acoustic guitar!!

I only got round to watching episode 2 of the second season.

The way people were talking about it, I was expecting some absolute disaster. It was perfectly ok (bar the last 10 mins), the sex scene (if you can call it that...) was a bit random tbh. The dad comment was a throwaway comment she thought was funny, bizarre a lot of people are jumping on it online. I still don't think Bella Ramsey is particularly good in the lead role (maybe the character isn't meant to be particularly likeable?!) but Isabela Merced is really excellent. Plus always great to see Jeffrey Wright. I am more interested to spend time with Kaitlyn Devers character at this stage though which isn't a particularly great sign.

I took the dad comment as a joke since Dina is the one who's pregnant. Maybe not a very funny joke but it seems to have wound up some more than it should.

This says more about the people getting wound up than it does about the show or the line TBH.

What are people getting wound up about?

Everything! People love to be outraged about everything.

The Last of Us, in my opinion, is fantastic story telling and I'm enjoying every bit of it. I also enjoy the differences from the game as well. Like how the cordyceps attract hordes is a very nice addition.

Some people are homophobic and/or misogynistic so you know, anything to do with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,539 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

No nothing like that, it's purely that Bella Ramsay doesn't look like game Ellie and that's a disgrace.

However, Isabela Merced being more attractive than game Dina is perfectly fine though, no complaints from people there for some strange reason.

We all know what happened in the game,, so we all know will happen in the show.

We can give out about the chicks,, but two girls needed to be cast,, and so far so good.

    And Now ..

We are all still watching .. = happy enough ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,435 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

A disgrace? If people want Ellie to look exactly like Ellie in the game, then play the bloody game. I'd rather a good actor playing the role than a look-a-like. Pedro Pascal is a fantastic Joel but he's hardly the twin of the game version (the beard does a lot of the heavy lifting) but no complaints there strangely.

And there have been fiercely misogynistic and homophobic takes on both the game and tv series. I'm not saying that every complaint is based in either camp, but a large proportion of them do.

The backlash against Bella Ramseys' portrayal of Ellie has nothing to do with how attractive or unattractive she is. It's that she's annoying and comes across as immature! Game Ellie wasn't annoying. Pedro Pascal doesn't exactly resemble game Joel but he's perfect in the role. Granted, this is all irrelevant to those not familiar with the game but considering Ellie is one of the two main characters it was important that they got the casting right and they failed.

    A missed opportunity.

You clearly didn't get that my post was purely sarcastic.

People are complaining about the Bella Ramsey casting but not the Isabela Mercerd one despite neither looking like the game versions, and this is purely because one is just more conventionally attractive than the other.

Something tells me if an actress who looked just like Ellie from the game put in the same performance as Bella Ramsey they wouldn't be as "annoying" to those currently complaining...

I think people who played the games also tend to forget, Ellie could definitely be annoying at times.

The idea that a character from a show HAS TO look like a character from a game is dumb in the first place. It really doesn't matter in any way!

A lot of the push back i've seen on Bella Ramsey is from the same lads who would unironically use the term "woke" in a sentence.

In some cases you can't win. I've seen in some places, and one of those places is this very thread, that Abby isn't believable as a violent leader because she's too slight in stature and no mean-looking enough.

Which is ironic, because when the game came out the internet was set ablaze by people saying she was too jacked and too manly, so much to the point where the "it's being pushed down our throat" brigade were saying it was a disgrace that they'd made a major game character trans (which wasn't the case, Abby wasn't trans at all).

And I see this week that the show has been a victim of review-bombing, just like the game was. I'd imagine one of the benefits of living in a post-apocolyptic landscape like the one in THe Last of Us is that there are fewer losers in existence!

Exactly. Melanie Lynskey came in for dog's abuse from the same crowd because she was too fat to be a convincing leader, as far as they were concerned. The vast majority of the vitriol aimed at Bella Ramsey is because she's not considered conventionally attractive and is - even worser! - non-binary. Two red rags to the neckbeard bulls. If anyone claiming that it's because she doesn't look like game Ellie can explain with a straight face why that would spark such a backlash about the "Dad" comment, I'll buy them a pint.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,231 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Called it in the last episode. She is stunning.

What is the cult and what is the 'war' about? Never played the game and hasn't been explained to us laymen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,687 ✭✭✭✭Penn

In fairness it hasn't been explained because they've only just been introduced. Right now it's just to show that Ellie & Dinah are trying to get to Abby in the midst of this war between these two factions. More will be revealed about them as the show progresses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,844 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

I would say we will probably get an Abby flashback or an episode dedicated to her so I think they will flesh out the character ab it better. I have only recently started the game (only arrived in Seattle in game) so I do sort of agree that Abby in the game is much more imposing in personality and build, but the TV actress has a good resume being in Justified and Unbelievable so will wait and see.

I'm sure I'm not the only one watching who's never played the game. 😛

From what I am aware of the criticism online, they are pointing out the hypocrisy of Druckmann talking ad nausem about how important it was to present game Abby as they did, only to completely drop that at the door in the TV version by casting an actress capable of actually carrying Abby's story dramatically, which Dever absolutely is.

However, if Druckmann really cared about what he's been saying for the past 5 years, I'm sure they could have found someone with the right balance of physical presence and acting. He is more involved in this show than GRRM was in GOT, and likely much more involved than JK Rowling will be in the HP show, so he absolutely has a say in these things.

People can point this out without being disingenuous or being thrown into the anti woke crowd.
