Has anyone had issues since the last software update, I did one I think Tues or Wed this week, and ever since the display is constantly shutting down and restarting as I’m driving. Very frustrating, sometimes it even disables the cruise control and the panel at steering wheel that shows the lanes etc goes bright white like it’s disabled also.

I've had issues with side/traffic alert warnings a few times since that update. I'm not sure if it's related. They were fine next time I started the car.

I found one of these lying in a drawer.

Got it from a vw dealer when I serviced a Golf many moons ago.

Can I use it on the ID3? And if so, what software do I need?

Edit: just searched and see that I can connect to my phone on BT, must give it a go, as I have already the WE CONNECT app on the car.

My charge flap actuator has gone - car is nearly 4 years old.

Does anyone know somewhere in Dublin that will replace it quickly?

VW have come back to me and said the reason I can't see the charge of the car on my phone is because the We-Connect plus subscription ended. So it looks like the free We-Connect service doesn't include getting the range. Yet it will allow you see where the car is, so the car is still connected to the internet.

Between this, the price I paid for the 2023 ID3, and the cost of servicing and new tires, I'm getting real pissed off with VW. Have an ID4 too that will be in the same situation next year.

Think it's time to start looking at other options.

pretty much everyone who bought a new EV in 22 and 23 from any manufacturer will have this same experience, but if e.g they gave you a decent trade in, you can get a hell of a lot of ID3 for similar/less money now.

Tyres are always expensive, but every new car now runs on 18-21” tyres, so we’re also spending more. Mine cost €350/corner, on an older ice car.

Very nice, and performance tyre upgrade also, is the sound from the upgraded HK system any good, and is that under floor boot sub, any good ?

I didn't notice you had the wider tyres till reading the above post. What's it like for noise in the cabin at motorway speed? Also are they brigestone turanza or potenza?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 480 ✭✭Tech_Head

Out of all the updates compared to my previous one, the HK system is the least impressive BUT I need to play around with it more.
If it was the standard system, you’d say it was “pretty good” but it doesn’t sound very “full”.
I’ve played around with the preset equalisers, checked out the surround sound mode on it vs stereo mode (surround good on some tracks but stereo better for most so far) but I’ve yet to play around with the manual equaliser outside of turning the sub up. You can make it feel quite bass-y but it feels a bit disconnected from the speakers so far. Will play around some more and let you know.

They are Potenza’s. I don’t notice much difference from the previous car but this one has a sound insulating windscreen so that will take the edge off it.
I would not call it a quiet car to anyone but depends what they are used to. Quieter than some in its class or below for sure but plenty of road and wind noise get into the cabin.

Don’t get me wrong, still glad I bought it.
The chassis is so much better, probably helped by the heavier battery too, it’s much more planted on the road and controlled in the corners.
Do I feel it’s like going from a standard car to a GTI? No.
It’s more like going from a standard car to a remapped one. The power is there, it’s effortless but it’s controlled more than fun.

Heads up display with VW navigation is an unexpected nicety.
    Lights are fantastic.
Seats aren’t real bucket seats but very comfortable and I thought the massage would be a gimmick but using it more than expected. Also like the seats moving automatically to make it easier to get in and out.
It does have a new “sports” sound too - it’s gimmicky but I like it. Only there for the start of acceleration though and you don’t really hear it after.
So far am keeping it on individual with settings set to sport outside of suspension which is on comfort. I like driving with it set to sport but it bottoms out easily on speed bumps and small potholes.

I wouldn't expect too much from the HK system. It's almost certainly all VW parts with some HK tuning and badges.

The optional Beats on the Borns was like that and it was crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭Zurbaran

Shame about the sound system. Everything else sounds good. Potenzas should be significantly better for sporty driving, not that I will be doing much of that.

I was told 12 weeks which would be next week. Said I'd be informed a few weeks before so looks like it is delayed.

    Saw that from your Instagram.

Very close to pulling the trigger on one of these or a Skoda Elroq.

Will be my first electric car so great to get a honest view of how they compare to the pre facelift ID3. How they work as a family car and what your thoughts on how they retain their value will be.

Also how much actual fun it it!

    Thanks

Very nice review, but please consider in future to also take reviewed car to HPC and see how quick is charging in real life.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,584 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

That varies so much with outside temperature, if the car has been preconditioned or not, battery level, how the charger is behaving each day, how many other cars are there, you are nearly reviewing the charger and the national grid at that stage as well as the car.

A typical guide range of charging times is sufficient

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭September1

I see your point but in my experience manufactures are not very precise. Just like test drives happen in different conditions and here @Tech_Head mentions them, it makes sense to check charging. Perhaps stick to one particular location of something like Fastned or Ionity that seems to be quite reliable.

fiiiiiinally! Cant believe VW didn’t push these cars out to reviewers before now

    review

    TLDR

    Excellent car

    Great value

Doesn’t step out despite the 326bhp to the rear

    HP worth having

Born VZ only slightly better driver than this

Thinking of getting Space saver for the ID3 Pro 2021. Am i right in thinking i can get a second hand Tiguan Space saver and it will do the job?? both are 18" and VW so assume will fit.

    thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,562 ✭✭✭MarkN

not always possible, SOC being one factor and my time another. I do it when the cars need it though and will always include the DC speed.

It lets the back end loose a little if you put the ESC into "Sport" mode. Nothing too crazy though. It's a separate setting from the "Sport" setting under "Modes." I'm not in my car and can't remember exactly where to find it in the menus. You can make it a vehicle shortcut, though.
