Really loved that episode. I thought it was on par with the related scenes in the game. Fantastic stuff.

The decision in the end of the episode appears they are going to proceed though with the plan, even accepting those odds.

The gurning about stuff not included from the game is getting tedious. People saying a certain type of infected not shown. If they show every time they appear it will get played out in the tv show. Also a lot of Seattle Day 1 not included which is fine with me. Episodes with every building getting looted and looking for petrol for a generator wouldn't make for good tv. HBO know how to pace a series.

They've still no idea how big it is or the job ahead of them but they're probably in too deep to turn back at this point.

I'd agree that it's overconfidence or maybe naivety as to their abilities but in the context, I wouldn't call it a ludicrous plot.

Enjoyed it, although agree the final act died a bit once she told her about the baby. Quick ride turned to "we're having a baby" very quickly, although they did a half decent job of explaining that Dina knew how she felt all along. A touch reckless with Ellie's exposed arm for the dirty deed and snuggle.

Had wondered how they'd do the reveal without the masks. Think they nailed it.

Great comparison video between this episode and the game for anyone interested.

Also, Jeffrey Wright was terrific. Perfect choice for Isaac.

I didn't like this episode at all.

I've no interest in the game, it's all going downhill for me now with Joel killed off and introducing Ferra, Wolves etc.

Those of you who know the game might be enjoying it but as someone who fell in love with sesason 1 based just on show it's lost it's way.

Dina and Ellie certainly didn’t run out of steam! 😉 who knew “I’m pregnant” was Dina code for “Please finger bang me”!

Thought the sex scene was ludicrously placed.

Would have been better suited for when they were in the tent in the last episode, rather than after they've seen a several dead bodies hanging from the ceiling, been chased by assault rifle wielding militia, killing 2 men by shooting 1 in the head and stabbing 1 in the neck, and just about evaded a horde of infected that they watched butcher a militia squad with Ellie having her arm munched on.

Can't say I'd be too much in the mood myself. Always a trope I've disliked to shoe-horn in a passionate kiss or sex scene where it's not realistic.

Yep , the whole sex scence was ridiculous, I'm pregnant right which has absolutely nothing to do with you but let's get it on, like WTF!

Whole thing is just getting more ludicrous by the minute.

I think the reason behind the sex scene wasn't so much "dead bodies and nearly dying is sexy", and more to do with their extreme near-death experience (particularly with Dinah thinking Ellie was infected and she was going to have to kill her) and Dinah revealing her pregnancy thereby making them both realise they want to be with each other, want a future together, and have been getting so close to each other but neither having the courage to actually make a move. So the heightened emotions of what they'd just been through went into overdrive.

They've clearly been extremely close for a number of years but it never being the right time, plus Dinah was with Jesse. Seems like their kiss at the dance was the first time they did that but obviously Dinah seemed high/drunk and then Joel's death meant nothing came of it. Then Dinah thought Ellie sacrificed herself by getting bit and that she'd have to kill Ellie when Ellie turned.

There's a lot going on there beyond "We nearly died. Drop your pants."

As for the episode itself, I thought it was okay. The record store scenes were good (yeah, probably dumb idea to start whacking drums when even though you checked outside for soldiers, you're in an abandoned store in an apocalypse where monsters literally are attuned to noise), the action scenes was decent. Best part of the episode though were Jeffrey Wright's scenes. Been really looking forward to seeing what he does and how they expand on his character compared to the game, and he's not disappointing.

An excellent EP, probably the best one so far, the Dina actor is excellent.

I'm a little surprised there was no Tommy related scenes...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,918 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

As long as it doesn't turn into a GenZ love story..

surprised no Tommy in the ep.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭facehugger99

I presume they were ok to whack the drums because Ellie had just dropped the tanker lid outside causing an awful ruckus and if none of the infected or soldiers heard that they wouldn't hear the drums.

I thought the set designs were excellent throughout - perfectly captured the feel of the game with nature gradually starting taking over the urban decay. You can see the budget dripping off the screen - really fantastic work.

I also really liked the bit where the 2 girls were sneaking behind desks to avoid the squad of Wolves - lovely to see a bit of stealth gaming reference.

4 episodes in and I think this is better than Season 1 so far. My big issue with S1 was the pacing - it's all well and good to throw in a couple of bottle episodes (God knows everyone seemed to love them) but it really made the end of the season seem very rushed. I think they're getting the balance much better in this season - even within the episodes this season there is a better structure and pace to them than in Season 1.

Thought it was a good episode myself. The sex scene didn't seem that contrived since the sexual tension between them had been building for years and only a few hours before (assuming Ellie slept for more than a few minutes), Ellie had just saved Dinah's life, explained that she would die for her but that wasn't what had just happened.

I loved the "Take on Me" performance, had no idea that was original to the video game. Lovely arrangement of it.

I can't get over the level of **** being thrown at Bella Ramsey. We get it, she's not conventionally attractive and you don't fancy her. That doesn't make her a bad actress and, if anything, makes the series more realistic. Dinah is actually the anomaly here: how realistic is it for someone growing up in a post apocalyptic world like they have to still be walking around looking like a supermodel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,416 ✭✭✭jj880

Good points. In a zombie apocalypse you just find out the person youve had feelings for

Is the only person alive who cant get infected

A big pro on the pro v cons list for a partner Id say 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,844 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

I dont think Dinah looks like a supermodel but i do think she is played by a better actress than Bella. There is more focus on Bella now as she is playing the singular main character the whole show is revolving around.

Not every criticism is due to attraction/ or lack of, or some hang up from the video game. Bella is I think an average actress but I think the show is still good.

A lot of people had the exact same criticism about the game.

The ones who did, and then gave up on the game based upon these premaure feelings, really missed out on a masterpiece!

The first season worked well as it was two characters travelling and dealing with situations as they came up, with an almost father and daughter relationship.

The issue with this season is that they killed off Joel and Ellie is an asshole, I laughed when she refused to shake the guys hand helping them escape. It shows her as petty. The new characters aren’t established as they had too many new characters in the first three episodes and none of them I cared about during that attack.

It really would have been better to set season two in the time gap and have this as season three. Build up some other characters if you want people to care about them. It also seems ridiculous that anyone would care if they are gay given it’s a zombie apocalypse, bigger issues to worry about, you know like food and not dying.

I remember why I never played this game. It came a year after the walking dead game from tale tale games, which has a very similar story. About a guy being taken to prison when the outbreak happens and finds a girl alone in her backyard and takes her to find her parents.

    I'm probably done with it.

I generally don't like kids/teens in any tv show or movie. They're always badly acted and there's an over-reliance on them doing stupid things to generate peril. For example Carl in The Walking Dead, Jack Bauers daughter in 24, the stupid daughter in Lioness.

With Joel dead it seems they're trying to make these two girls the main characters and it's going downhill as a result. They can't act, the dialogue is cringe. It's gone like a CW show. They cut away to the other characters and it's quite good, but then they cut back to these two eejits and it kills any kind of vibe that was building.

Ellie in particular is very unlikeable. For example she had a big grin when talking about three real-life astronauts getting burned to death in their capsule. The dialogue wasn't supposed to be funny but she's smirking away to herself like it's an amusing anecdote. There's many bizarre moments like this.

    This.

It was passion because of heightened tension , adrenaline and with a large dose of relief after a few near death experiences .

Thought it was a lovely episode and best so far.

The drums thing was a bit mad . But Ellie finding and playing the guitar was beautiful

Aha of all things .. I love that song ! .. And Dina's reaction . Both thinking of Joel while also expressing their love for each other , wordlessly.

Dina is a great character .

I hope we don't lose her in this foolish attack on the Wolves .

    And don't tell me , gamers !

Did she put the guitar back in its case?

I can accept most of what you say apart from the mention of Elisha Cuthbert, who is a gem, you take that back! 😂

That upset me more than anything else in the episode, that she didn't put it back in the case. The humanity!

Bizarre to simply cast any Bella criticism as some sort of "attractiveness issue".

It's as much of a majority and size thing.

Also, she does the extremes well, Joel deaths etc but her day to day portrayal of the character (banter, chat) comes across as a 13 year old dealing with authority issues.

Yeh, I notice nobody is complaining about that not being game accurate 😆.

I definitely wasn't a fan of Ellie in the first season but find myself liking her a lot more this one especially when she is having a laugh with Dina. And the guitar solo was a bloody class bit of TV .

Time is contagious, everybody is getting old.
