Thanks guys, I might follow up with the dealer about the tyres and see what they say. The fact the front two are cracked whereas the back two are fine makes me wonder if there is an issue with them two specifically. I'll let you know how I get on.

I’ll have to think about trading in and do my figures. I wasn’t planning to until next year, but a significant discount being offered by VW is tempting as it will help cover the price cuts introduced after I purchased and get back on an even keel so to speak. It would be an awful sting if the discount wasn’t there next year when I go to trade in!

    Which dealer?

Nope, never heard of these trade in incentives from VW. Can you shed any further light on them?

Seen a few trade values of mid teens for pre price cut cars.

I'll know more at the end of the week hopefully. I was told that more 'boosters' are expected to be sanctioned this week by VW Ireland and am expecting a call back. Sounds a little too good to be true! The dealer did say it is VW Ireland taking the hit and not the individual dealers. They reckoned VW were at risk of loosing a cohort of customers who would regularly trade in every two or three years. Also sounds like there are people lining up to buy second hand EV's in the 2 - 3 year old bracket and they want to keep a steady supply of trade-ins coming through the books.

That’s probably the new price cut for the ID4 Pro Plus. Rumoured to be dropping to €39,995.

You heard it here first 😀

Tasty, are you serious?! What's it at the moment, €44k? That would be a decent price cut which would presumably feed down to the other models? Or perhaps they would discontinue one of the lower models?

I’d say to grab customers away from Tesla, BYD etc

    At that price, it will!

Keep us posted please. I have 222 id4 and at the moment looks like there is no equity for trade in for new model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,465 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Maybe sell it privately asap before these new price cuts kick in.

I think that's what @Sierra Oscar is saying above - go into a dealer and check, he was offered substantially more than the gfmv figure and wasn't expecting it.

[Edit - albeit a 2023 car being returned early].

I should add that I am not in a PCP, but the offer is still apparently available to me (it was clearly designed to assist those in 'negative equity' with their PCP so to speak).

I'd definitely go into the dealership to discuss in person if you are in PCP and thinking of trading-in.

anyone use a car cover for their id4? for the month of May i get chronic bird dropping and its impossible to keep the car clean.. im not the fussy and go out every day or so and soften the drops with water over kitchen towel and remove them but its non stop… im thinking if i had a cover to throw over the car for the month it might save it a bit.. for a lot of the time the car is sitting in the driveway as im working from home.. so i know some hassle for taking off/on etc.. but might be worth it..

Whatever about the aesthetic factor, you really need to get on top of the bird sh1te as it happens or it can leave lasting damage to paint. Early summer is an absolute b1tch for it.

I'm not on PCP. I have a 231 Life with high milage of 77,000km. Best price I got for a Pro Plus was €19,000. It was too much for me to come up two years.

Anyone have the media system, for no reason and randomly pop up asking what you want, you then have to close it out

Even when using Apple Car Play the voice system will just jump in with no buttons pressed asking what you want and looking for voice command. Im on the latest version of software

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42 Badger242

I had this issue when I got the car initially. There is an option somewhere in the menu settings to disable voice command (I can't remember exactly what the option is) which sorted it. If I want to use the voice command I just use the button on the steering wheel to activate it.

have a 2021 id4. Popping up for last month or so saying needs a service inspection. I got it 14 months ago and Volvo garage I brought it from did a ‘service’

My local Volkswagen rang me today saying we see your car is due a service, I said yeah and then said, I don’t want the car washed, I don’t want the car vacuumed, I don’t need washer fluid topped up and I can change the pollen filter myself in 2 minutes, I don’t want the software updated to 3.7 (happy with 3.2 and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it)

Then asked How much for the service with above items excluded? 295 euro. Is this like a joke or something. People talk about electric cars and cheap servicing etc no oil changes and all this. How is the Jesus are they looking for 295 euro?!?

    Maybe have a look at buying a service plan with VWFS ? It can often work out a bit cheaper and you’ll get the pollen filter etc. included. This is a 36month example from Joe Duffy but it’s not particularly cheap;

thanks Joe. Still very saucy. I used to get my old ice car serviced for cheaper than this and they actually did proper work.

Sure most of the above included items are a pure cod.

Has anyone got a non 1st edition ID4 that's older than 2 years, that stopped giving you the range of the car on the app? I had a 1st edition ID4 for 3 years and it never stopped doing it. I've since changed to an ID4 Pro Plus that's a year old and no issues. But my 2 year old ID3 is now saying that I need a subscription to We-Connect Plus for €155 a year to get that funcionality!

I'm raging about it, it was such a handy feature as I've an alarm on my phone every night to remind me to check if the cars need to be charged or not. So inconvenient to have to go out and manually check every night.

You’re caught in the legacy dealer loophole unfortunately. VW.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭obi604

is it worth checking with other Volkswagen dealers or are they all the same price normally?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,426 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

deffo worth checking. But have to weigh uk then travel and time against any saving.

Also, why go to VW if out of warranty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭obi604

this is the thing. The 3 year general warranty is gone. But still have battery warranty.

Have no bother going to an independent dealer (to even clear the inspection due message popping up) but not sure if any that cater for electric cars in my area.

Plus would not going to Volkswagen give them an excuse if a battery issue came up.

what do the T&C say about it?

Have to say, one thing to admire Tesla is that there’s none of this crap to deal with.

Until you try to get an independent repair 😉

In general I agree though. Tesla's approach of making the servicing cheap and trivial to the point where you can do it yourself or pay any garage to do it is an excellent idea

I also really like the idea of their ranger service where the repair guy comes to you

It really feels like a lot of car manufacturers are taking the absolute worst of Tesla's ideas (proprietary technology, fiddly costly repairs, trying to tech your way out of problems you created) and skipping all the good ones

As it currently stands with my ID.4, I'm looking at nearly €2k of out of warranty repair on a 4 year old car. That's the kind if issues you'd expect with a car twice it's age

No goodwill from VW, they're saying it isn't their problem. I've told them I won't be buying another one and I recommend others stay away purely for the terrible after sales experience

The garage isn't much use either, they're about as effective as a condom with speed holes. Ask them a simple question like lead time on parts and the only answer they have is "ehhhhhhh"

It's Joe Duffy Swords BTW, I'd recommend never going there

The worst part is that I really like the car. I'd happily recommend it to anyone before my troubles with the software update and these problems. So the garage and the company have managed to turn a great car into a subject of stress and annoyance for me

Top marks VW, hope you get bought by BYD 🖕
