Does anyone have issues with the App when trying to manage charging? I have a 2021 1st Edition.

    A couple examples of where the App just doesn't work well;

    • Adjusting the target charge level in the app doesn't override what is set on the car infotainment system.
    • Switching from Immediate charging to Preferred Times in the App.
    • Start charging again after a previous charging session has finished. For example, in advance of a long journey I often charge to 90% overnight on the cheap rate and then top it up to 100% before we leave. I do this to avoid it sitting at 100% for hours at a time. I always have to go out to car and adjust on the infotainment system.

    I have Software Version 3.7.

Yeah I've seen similar issues before, a few things can help

Try turning off "battery care" when charging over 80%. Leaving it on means if the charging stops for any reason then it'll reset the limit to 80%

Also go into the car settings in the app to Mobile Online Services and disable Personalisation

I would also recommend not using the timed charge within the car, use the timer on the charger if it's available

There's also a trick with pulling one of the fuses in the car and resetting it to reset the charging controller. This fixed a lot of issues with the timed charging in my ID.4

Thanks very much. I'll try some of those. I can't use the timer on the wall charger because the WiFi not strong enough to get picked up by charger.

The 100% battery worry is about leaving it standing full for days/weeks on end.

A few hours makes absolutely no difference.

Anyone in a newer ID4 ever have issues with their screen turning a weird blue/red/green colour for a few minutes, mostly when you get in?

242 Pro Plus - no issues with screen.

I'd say it's a loose wire. I've banged it at times and it has fixed it. It also goes away for long periods. If it persists this time I'll get on to VW

Know very little between all the different models, would you say it’s about 2k overpriced? From a main dealer so some comfort with the 1 year warranty.

I have just paid the same in dublin for a 2022 Pro-Business with 20k on the clock…but not from a main dealer. Having been looking at ID4s for a long while I was happy enough with the deal.

You will pay a premium with a main dealer and will get less on any trade-in but you do get more peace of mind.

Not really, it’s about the same price as other VW dealers considering the low mileage. Best spec would be a 2021 1st edition if you can find one.

are there any known ways to do a rear mount bike track on an ID.4. I do not want to do a trailor hitch and the rear plastic spoiler means mounting a bike rack is either no possible or recommended. Has anyone figured out a way to do this? I have a very nice Saris Bones rack and they even they say not to use it on an ID.4.

Having service plan fun these days. If anyone bought a service plan in the early days of the ID4 you might be in a similar scenario.

I'm due my 2nd service (every 2 years) and I previously purchased a service plan which included brake fluid, wipers, tyres and brake pads. VW now well me my service plan expired and thus any unused options on it cannot be used against this years service (brake fluid, brake pads, wipers). Only thing is the contract I have says my contract period, number of services, contract KMs etc are all N/A, so should never expire.

They do have a 3 month grace period (I bought my service plan after a year of ownership) so i'm within that and can use it for this upcoming service, but brake pads won't be changed so i'm going to email VW and see what my options are.

Unlikely it’ll need brake pads anyway so it’s probably a non issue.

Does anyone know what the true price of the very cheapest new ID4 costs? VW website states €36,500 but when I download the official list that states €42k?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,465 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Divanes VW have them advertised on DD at €36K for the small battery version. Includes grant, VRT rebate, scrappage etc.

We'll i've paid for them in my service plan, so I intend on getting something for them. Either early (and needless) new brake pads, or some sort of refund from VW.

Ask for them in a box, pay to get them fitted when they’re needed.

no you didn’t t , you paid for them “where necessary ” read the print

I don't see that in the contract. And if my contract has no expiry, then i'd like to retain that service plan until "where necessary" becomes true.

ha. A box of bits. Can't box the labour involved though, so ultimately i'd need to pay.

Its in there somewhere alright… when I got my first service plan for the ID.3 they told me….

"The frequency of the service and maintenance items covered under this ‘L’ package are a combination of ‘time/mileage intervals’ and ‘as required’ depending on wear and tear. For example, the replacement of a dust and pollen filter is at 2 years or 60,000km, whereas the replacement of the front brake pads is as required."

And if my contract has no expiry, then i'd like to retain that service plan until "where necessary" becomes true.

It has an expiry so you wont be able to force their hand on it. If the pads dont need replacing then you wont be getting them.

The question is, how worn do they have to be to be "necessary".

so after 3 years and 87,000 km with my trusty ID4 52 kWh City I have aid good bye and have replaced it with a 77 kWh Pro plus ( I was worried they were going to hit me for excess mileage, but nothing said other than that’s good usage )

The city has not camera so I had one fitted , put in in reverse and it appeared on screen and took up the while screen

I put the PeoPlus in Reverse a WTF I’m greeted a screen that squeezes the world and totally distorts reality.
How Da Fuq to people actually use that ? Is there a way of getting a proper view. My wife actually wants the old car back !!!

There should be icons in the camera display to change view and other settings. It sounds like ‘fish eye’ is the default.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,698 ✭✭✭✭ted1

    there are 2 views.
one is a fish eye view for hooking up a trailer.
the other view is completely distorted. Makes things look narrower and taller.

also how do I activate the shop? It won’t activate.

This is my reverse view for comparison. No distortion on the standard view.

I think the shop needs setup in the phone app, privacy settings etc. Then make sure you are signed in the car user settings using the qr code.

Looks like I will have to change the tyres on my ID4 soon. The car is two years old with the factory Hankook tyres and just over 19,000km done. There is still around 4.5mm left on the tyres but the threads on the front two are starting to crack pretty badly. I thought I might get to 25,000km. The car really is harsh on the tyres!

In anycase I was in with the dealer lately and they were sussing me out about a trade in. I bought before the price cuts that were introduced when EV sales crashed so was expecting to be stung badly if trading in. Interestingly though the dealer was saying VW has a series of rolling incentives to assist those that purchased in 2023 to trade in, with a discount of 5k - 7k. Anyone heard of this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,465 ✭✭✭joe1303l

I can’t comment on any trade in incentives but I’d consider pursuing VW/Hankook on the premature cracking on the tyres. Some e-Golfs had a similar issue with factory fitted Dunlop tyres.

I just changed my 221 to a 251 pro plus. I got a significant discount off list price. Got it for 40k, but also received a good price for my car. 6k more than that GMFV.

Also got 40k km out of my original Hankook
