Matthew Baynton one of creators and stars of Ghosts and Horrible Histories, plus small part in Gavin and Stacey.

Back on May 1st for Series 19!

Finally - seems like it's been a long time coming.

TM AU isn't doing it for me this year at all.

Also - the opener of Game Changer S7 is worthwhile if you're a fan. It's basically an hour long version of the prize task from Taskmaster.

^ I've no doubt Fatiha El-Ghorri's "Bruv Schtick" will get old real fast..

No matter what show I seen her on, she's always unfunny. Drab without any humour.

Basically her entire "bit" is defying Muslim stereotypes by making crude jokes and speaking like a 20 year old "geezer" from London.

It's mind-boggling that she's gotten as far as she has really.

I've barely seen her on anything, maybe a clip or two from Outsiders, but isn't the whole "geezer" side of things not the same as the likes of Guz Khan & Jamali Maddox (and a few others like Big Zuu) in that a lot of Muslim youth from London just really do talk like that? Or does she just really lean into it on purpose?

She definitely leans into it moreso as a female Muslim, given there's more of a stereotype of being reserved and obedient to family values and needs.

Not a huge fan of Guz Khan, but Jamali Maddox is genuinely a very funny guy.. different class of comedian than Fatiha.

how funny someone is outside of taskmaster doesn’t always equate to how they are on the show. Jamali was one of the worst contestants ever on it IMO

Happy to wait and see what this cast is like on the show too

I don't mind Fatiha. Saw her on Outsiders and I don't remember being annoyed by her at all.

I’m happy to wait and see, nearly every season there’s been someone who made my heart sink on announcement that was at worst fine and in some cases quite good.
the format sometimes works for people that on a normal panel show might not

I dreaded Rosie Jones last season, she was great!

Same with Al Murray in Season 5 (I think), I find his pub persona loathsome, he was good on TM.

Definitely one of the better season series openers..

    .. fun group!

Yeah, can't complain. Good tasks, good attempts, all seem fairly lively and funny in different ways. Good start.

Except Fatiha in the live task. Fair enough if you don't want to get on the floor, but f*cking try to do something at least.

I enjoyed it, some good laughs in there. Love Mathew and Jason, not a great fan of Fatiha and I don’t know Stevie at all but I thought they were all good in fairness. I didn’t mind that Fatiha didn’t do the stage task, it went with her personality really.

Jason and Matthew were really good, Enjoyed Fatiha too, not sure on Rosie or Stevie though but think they'll be a good group

    Very fun first episode.

Jason I knew would be good value, Stevie I didn't know at all but excellent. Rosie was fine, Fatiha meh, but the MVP was Matthew.

It helps when tasks are good! The in studio one was great.

Jason producing his own knife, are we sure it isn't Pimento playing as Jason?

Only two I've heard of before are Jason and Fatiha. That said the others were pretty good and love Rosie's accent.

watched it last night. Really enjoyed it, strong start. Fatiha not bothering in the final task was ridiculous though. She had been decent earlier but that was very annoying. Great live task

Brilliant first episode, one of the strongest openers in years with some really good tasks.

Unfortunately Fatiha is so far living up to my expectations of just 'not being bovvered bruv'. Hopefully she improves.

Am loving the other four too. Wasn't sure how good Rosie would be but really enjoyed her first outing.

Roll on the rest of the series.

it wasn’t that she wasn’t bothered, it was just a physical impossibility for her. Not trying to be rude here, but she wasn’t going to be flopping up and down on the ground like some of them. She was fine in the rest of the show

That live commentary task was awful but that's more to do with the task than the contestants

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,655 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, thought the same during that task.

The contestants can be firing on all cylinders but the strength of the task is paramount.

Episode was grand.. team task was good fun but live task felt like a lot of setup for not much payoff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,790 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I didn't mind the live task too much, mostly because it was saved by Jason's issues with the safe. I get why they had to do the swapping part as someone might have been able to figure out (or to a relatively close degree) what you'd have to do, but as can often happen with some of the additional caveats they add to tasks, that can stifle creativity and foresight.

The rest of the episode was good though. They're a great bunch this year, I don't think there are any real weak links. Thought Jason would have fought harder on the commentary task to try justify that it was Alex's fault he couldn't do his RTT and therefore he shouldn't be punished for it, but I don't think it would have mattered much. The attempt itself and crew dressing as him was great. Even Rosie's maths bit was a bit off, but then just randomly vomiting was something I really didn't expect from her. Stevie setting the bucket on fire during the liquids task was amazing too.

Fatiha is very poor though, crap at tasks but not in a funny way and the “I’m not bothered, innit bruv?” carry on gets old real fast.

That makes sense for previous in studio task but not this one...she had to pop balloons and put them in some tubing not exactly a physical impossibility for her. I am not finding her entertaining at all it seems like the same schtick all the time, the others are very good fun Matthew Baynton is stand out for me so far closely followed by Jason, Stevie is also really fun, Rosie is grand.
