The TM team need to take responsibility for that one, played out exactly as you'd have expected. Don't think it would have been an less chaotic on the normal one

I'm a bit late watching Taskmaster New Year Treat special but I'm looking at the contestants

It feels like Taskmaster has ran out of comedians…

^ New Years Treat is never comedians..

.. but it was particularly dreadful!

The new year's show never has comedians in it, it's always a mixture of other celebrities.

Tonight was fairly awful alright. I think I Iaughed two or three times tops. Theyd be much better served doing a one-off of return contestants who weren't champions than unfunny celebrities. I don't blame them for not being funny but the prize task was a prime example of how non-comedians are generally unsuited for this type of show. Just felt like a chore watching it this evening and I was more excited for the new season reveal that never happened.

That said, the clues are out there (from Alex Horne) for who's in the next series.

Strange to see no S19 contestant announcement with the premiere in NYC in a few weeks. Especially as was leaked a while back on Reddit.

I saw a leak online that claimed

    Jason Mantzoukas

was a contestant, and assumed it was made up. Is that the one from Reddit you're talking about?

I only really watched cause i thought theyd reveal S19. Unsurprsingly it wasn't great, scoring was pretty farcical by Greg.

Interesting. I actually think he could be excellent!

I enjoyed the new years episode. Decent tasks and people having a good time. That’s all I need

Watched it last night, almost didn’t after reading here about it. Was decent enough for what it was, thought the do something you’ll regret task would have been better served by comedians but that apart it was enjoyable enough.

I think the issue New Years Treats have is that compared to any mainline Taskmaster episode, it's never going to compare for obvious reasons (comedians v non-comedians).

A minor concern is the dilution of the brand through overexposure leading to less interest. Viewership has slowly been declining in the last few years (lowest ep was at 1.53m viewers in the UK for S18 v 2.4m for the lowest ep in S12) and it's evidently down on its peak seasons.

I don't think that the forays into less funny NYT and JT help and maybe spacing out seasons slightly might help retain interest.

There has been a few entertaining celebs on New Years Treat over the years (e.g Adrian Chiles, Rebecca Lucy Taylor, Rylan etc)..

.. but when the lineup was announced, it was definitely didn't show a lot of promise.

You know it's bad when a former goalkeeper is the most entertaining by some distance.

Yeah they should definitely try to have at least 3 comedy-adjacent people for the NYT; ones known to at least be entertaining.

But a lot of the time these things are more determined by who the production team's agents also have on their books.

    New series contestants are:

Mathew Baynton, Rosie Ramsey, Jason Mantzoukas (wow), Fatiha El-Ghorri and Stevie Martin.

Wow, worth it for Jason Mantzoukas alone.

    ^ Leaks were accurate so..

It's a solid line-up.. bar Rosie Ramsey tbh.

I watched the recent episode 2 of 'Taskmaster Class', wasn't mentioned here.
Obviously a glorified clip show, but a much better selection of clips than episode 1.

Just a general observation from some of the clips shown - It's a pity that they've moved away from doing cuts to the studio during the showing of the tasks, showing everyone's real-time reaction to what is on screen. It really added to the show.

I find Fatiha desperately unfunny whenever I see her on TV.

Rosie, I could take or leave, but as a friend said, her personality might be great when mixed with the rest of the line-up.

The other three will be brilliant.

not sure of a couple of them but over the last few series there’s been people who o thought ah crap who I then actually quite enjoyed on it. Rosie Jones most notably.

    PIMENTO!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,585 ✭✭✭✭Basq

I've warmed to Fatiha.. didn't like her on Outsiders, but she was witty enough with Harry Hill on latest Big Fat Quiz.

Once she eases up on the "BRUV" etc.

She'll intimidate the hell out of Alex which will be funny in and of itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,528 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Seems like a good mix of a lineup. Jason/Pimento/Derek should be great. The others I've seen bits of here and there but no complaints anyway. Give them a shot.

Brief look at the new series with a bit of a task from Seth Meyers last night..

S19 premiere in NYC this evening.

If Rosie brings the same energy as Chris she'd be great.

Jason Mantzoukas and Fatiha El-Ghorri are the only two I'm even vaguely familiar with.
