Very strange leaving arguably your best player on the bench, Barrett would probably only have 4 meaningful games left for Leinster, 2 x semis and 2 x finals. It's underutilising your best asset for little or no benefit apart from resting him

The bars near where I was in the stadium ran out of beer.

Listening to the Indo Rugby podcast and they make a good point about Leinster being far stronger squad wise this season than compared to last. The signings have helped massively, but we also had a fair amount of injuries going into the game at Croke Park. Our backline for this weekend will especially be different.

Last season Frawley started at fullback, Larmour was on the wing, Osborne started at 13 and Moloney was in the second row. They're all good players, but the players that will start this weekend are all better. You also have Sam Prendergast who is already quite a bit better than Ross Byrne. At least when it comes to the more attacking side of things.

Healy also acts as an emergency option for TH and Hooker.

If they dont see a huge difference between Boyle and him then having that extra safety blanket cover in a knockout game in case there are unfortunate injuries might mean it is worth giving him the nod.

Is there any update on ticket sales? Still loads of seats left on TM and hard to know what sections are even open/closed. As per usual EPCR completely taking the piss with ticket prices.

yeah they fcuked it up completely, could have been a sell out on a bank holiday weekend, but they gouged on the price.

12.5% ticketba$tard fee on top as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,654 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

it should have been an easy sell. Especially well priced family tickets given the weekend and the kick off time.

I wouldn't say there are loads of tickets left. Have you looked at the ticket map and clicked into the sections? The two corners have a good amount of seats and it looks like half the top tier behind the goal is closed with the other half unsold. But otherwise, it's sold.

To me, that's sold pretty well all things considered (cost, opposition etc).

This might be the most SoCoDu thing i'm ever gonna write but….

Anyone know where the best bet to park a cargo bike up would be around Lansdowne? Bringing one of the youngsters, and no darts has now complicated things.

There's a couple of cargo bike spots on Herbert Park:

I'm sure there are other options if you are approaching from a different direction.

If you want to be cheeky you can try the car park of revenue building on the other end of Lansdowne road beside the IRFU head office.

AFAIK the security station isn't manned on weekends (not that they'd care anyway) and there's bike lock space just beside it.

When is the team due to be named?

Lunchtime tomorrow I assume..That's the usual time for a Saturday game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,464 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

    This.

If this were France, he'd have played 80 minutes basically every 6.5 days since his feet touched the ground.

Are we keeping him for the URC final in 6 weeks or wtf?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,739 ✭✭✭typhoony

The only thing I can think of is that the player/new zealand had it written in his contract that he only play x number games/minutes while at Leinster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,464 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

I can't imagine so. But if it is the case, we shouldn't be getting into those sort of deals, not at the price they come at.

  • Subscribers Posts: 42,922 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

why, what price has it come at??

i seriously doubt that information is anywhere near the public realm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,953 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Can only assume they want to be able to bring him on as a game changer, open it up after the pack has been kicking the stuffing out of them for a half

Have Leinster stated there aren't restrictions on Barrett starting ahead of Ireland internationals? Maybe it's like the deal with Snyman, and they're not allowed to select Barrett over Henshaw in crunch games.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,574 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

They have selected Barrett over Henshaw in a crunch game though, so it's unlikely.

There are rumours there is some kind of restriction, but it's unlikely to be that blunt. To be honest the Snyman one is a bit meaningless as I don't think he'd start ahead of Ryan and McCarthy anyway.

Leinster do a pretty good job of not biting the hand that feeds them or at least only biting it selectively. They paint a picture of what the IRFU says they want to see.

Saturday is obviously a must win but far lower risk of a loss than either team they would potentially face in the final. Starting Barrett this weekend over either Ringrose or Henshaw would cause a decent sized storm, especially with the guaranteed petrol thrown on the fire from the usual social media moaners and media looking for clicks.

Rather than dealing with this blowback, they take the minimal risk of keeping Barrett in reserve for this game, allowing themselves full freedom to do what they want in the final.

It is also an example of relying on Irish players for most games they can then point to when making requests to bring in players in the future, the likes of Ioane.

Other provinces seem to take the opposite approach and nearly go out of their way to paint a poor picture for to the IRFU and then wonder why they dont get their way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,670 ✭✭✭50HX

Whats the poor picture other provences are painting, the other 3 provences are no where comparable to Leinster so NiQ will always play.

I think ye are nuts not to start Barrett, this is what ye signed him for so play the best team...Healy is a v odd selection imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,515 ✭✭✭Former Former Former

People are massively overthinking this and, as always, defaulting to the most negative assumptions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

I've gone into plenty of detail on other threads about the issues within other provinces over the years that paint themselves in a poor light so no need to derail the Leinster thread with it.

Barrett was signed to help win Europe and this is what they see is the best path. If he doesnt start the final Id question it but for the semi it makes sense for numerous reasons, including what I included in my post.

Healy selection isnt odd at all if you've paid any attention to how Porter has been used by Leinster - he comes on after 20 minutes to exploit a substitution loophole.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,537 ✭✭✭hold my beer

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,574 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Healy can come back on if Porter is injured, so replacing him at 20 minutes isn't so much of a risk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,537 ✭✭✭hold my beer

I doubt that's the reason they do it though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 291 ✭✭darkened_scrum

The whole point of this is so Porter is on at the end of the match. Exploiting a loophole would be starting Porter, bringing on Healy, and then Healy getting "injured" to bring Porter back on.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,574 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

It wasn't envisaged for either scenario realistically.

Mod: this thread is not a safe space for you to troll and bait supporters of other provinces which is all this sentence seeks to achieve. Warned.
