I would purchase the yardforce mower in Aldi over the Lidl one.

I have a yardforce mower (different model than what is offered) that must be 5 years old and it is so much more a better item than the Lidl one.

    Quieter, less aggressive, less clunky.

I am not sure what warranty Aldi offer.

Are the mowing area hard limits? I see the Lidl one has 500m2, what if you have a Garden of 1000m2?

Not limited at all, you might need extra boundary wire at installation and maybe swap out the 2amp/hr battery for a 4 amp/hr.

Lidl have always followed with the 1000m2 version 2-3 weeks later for €350 so I would hold off if the 500m2 is not enough for you.

This is Aldis first year offering a mower. It will be interesting to see if they follow up with a bigger yardforce offering in 2-3 weeks.

I got the 500m2 now but I can always bring it back within 30 days. :)

Regarding cut quality. Is it as good as doing it yourself with a push mower?

They have a Warehouse sale at Newbridge - the 1,000m2 is listed as a friday only offer at €250 if Newbridge any good to you.

Personally I would go for the Lidl one over the Aldi version.

The Lidl one is on the market for it's third season & it's had reliability issues that have been incrementally improved each year.

Aldi version is in first year on sale in Ireland AFAIK.

Anyway they were all gone by 8:15 in my local store. Crazy rush on them & the garage cover too.

Yardforce are a well established brand. The MB400 was on sale in the UK for £450. Comes with app control and a rain cover.

Its funny I initially went to two Aldis to get this yardforce. Was third in line for one but they only got two in. Didnt realise Lidl had one and went in at 8.15 and there were multiple there. The lidl mower has 100m2 extra coverage, 18cm vs 16cm cutting diameter and also has a brushless motor.

1st May today, they had countdown timer on their website for it, due to the demand for the mower.

Just drive around to find one but likely to be gone in many stores.

    Hey

I have two of the 1000m^2 parkside mowers going. One problem I have is that only one of them will connect to the app.

Does anyone with two mowers working have both available on the app or is there only 1 allowed to connect.?

Its not a big deal, but the app is handy for adjusting schedule, remote starting etc

Fuxking thing driving me bananas. Out all night trying to get it to recognise theloop signal

Loop signal is a problem on mine too. I rang the helpline but the lady who answered said the experts work 9-5 so i will call again. 1800851251 is the number. Teething problems. Hopefully!

I got one of the smaller ones that are in the shop as of yesterday. (I already have a larger one from last year but the base has issues and I haven't been able to get through to them to make a warranty claim.) The base from the smaller one appears to be compatible with the larger one - it is the same shape and charges when it docks. This surprised me because it looks like two individual parts on the grizzly tools website. I also got the garage as it seems likely exposure to rain could have caused the issue with the old one.

For those with loop signal problems - if you can spare it, get a small length (say 10m) of boundary wire, run it in a small loop around the mower and connect it up. If the issues disappears, it's a problem with the real boundary wire and you should take it up to examine it, might be a nick somewhere along it. If the issue persists, check the connections (try reversing the + and -) and see if that helps

Another query regarding the 1000 m^2 version, does yours ever randomly switch off when it's in the charging station??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,291 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

The Aldi isnt brushless? Thats disappointing, I liked the idea of no boundary wire but a brushed motor living outdoors + grass juice is basically planned obsolescence.

Ive a very large lawn, around 2200m2. Is anyone running 2 of the larger models simultaneously?

I did run 2x 1000m2 bots on my 1100m2 area when it was borderline too long, 3 days and they both had it back under control. I just added a second charging station for power only sitting on top of the boundary wire a few metres from the active station. Worked reasonably well - from memory they both got docked most of the time. I didn't spend any time adjusting the distance to get it more reliable as it was only a temporary fit. I didnt worry about them bumping into each other either (I'm sure it happened though I didnt see it)

Can any type of insulated copper wire be used as a boundary wire?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,061 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

Another rookie question, I have a few small trees, 12" dia at base, in the lawn. If I put some rubber strips at the base would they work as a kind of bumper for the mower to touch and move on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭NeutralHandle

I'm running two mowers simultaneously inside one boundary with one dock since yesterday. Obviously they will both try to dock at the same time at some point if I keep doing this.

It sounds like it is possible to have a second dock on the same wire from one of the above posts. I guess the extra signal strength has no bad effect and the mowers usually just manoeuvre around a docked mower like any other obstacle.

I wouldn't worry about 12" thick trees at all. I would expect it to touch gently against them and then change change direction. Does this with smaller trees in our garden.

I know it's probably been mentioned but I'm trying to set a 500m2 one of these up for my mum

Can you tell it what area its mowing in the set up...or do you limit the time it can mow based on the area of your lawn?

Nevermind, it is actually in the instructions.

I'm so used to shite instructions, when I didn't see it at first glance I assumed I was on my own

Any idea why the mower would just be following the loop wire? It isn’t going inside the area.

What happens when it reaches the docking station at the end of the loop?

When I took mine out for the first time this year, it did a loop of the perimeter but when it reached the docking station, it turned left out into the lawn and proceeded from there - does yours go around the docking station?

Have you spare wire left at the end of the loop/under the docking station or does it just feed straight into the electrical connector?

Mine will do a complete lap of the guide wires about every 5 starts. Apparently it is to simply keep the edge neat and tidy. It should then Head off in to the cutting area.
