Does anyone know how this "Hedgehog protection" works?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,611 ✭✭✭✭Jim_Hodge

I don't know that model but hedgehog protection usually ensures the mower only operates in daylight hours.

Have to say my mower is working a treat ever since I set it up. It's the 500sq.mtr model. I only put it out every 2/3 days and never in the rain and so far so good.

Only slight issue is that it doesn't dock properly every time and needs the odd helping hand to guide it in sometimes. This can be easily solved by creating a funnel effect on entry to the base station with some timber but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Are others having issues with the mower docking ?

Make sure that the incoming guide cable is still clipped in to the channel underneath the charging base. I had issues with parking and discovered that somehow the cable had come out of the channel and was at a weird angle underneath the charging station. The mower was then following the cable in to the side.

I have a Biocycle septic tank with a pump running in it. There's an electrical box on top.

Could a wire be fed from this to feed the docking station? Would there be much involved or any idea how much an electirician would charge?

I used the "island technique" for going around trees etc. but with a minimal "island" i.e. just enough to turn the cable through 180 degrees. So that gives me about 4m spare at the back of the base station. Seems to work fine. I probably should have done a similar run at the front to allow me to move the base station forward or back 4m as required. To date it hasn't been required but not causing any issue so I may just leave it there.

I’ve only got around to setting this up and have an issue where the luster terminal wasn’t included. I’ve contacted support and waiting to hear back. Is there any electrical shop where I can pick this up? Thanks

I have the 1000m2 version setup in my mother in laws. It's been working ok up until last week when there was an "abnormal battery problem". I replaced the battery and it worked fine for a few days.

Now I'm getting Loop Signal Lost. Connection at the back is fine and I can see no obvious breaks in the ground. Theres no light at all on the base station. The battery is 100% charged but I'm thinking the problem is with the base station rather than a cut in the cable.

Could someone do me a big favour and tell me if there's any light when you pull the boundary cable connection out of the back? That will help me identify where the problem is.

    Thanks

When you disconnect the boundary wire from the back of the charging base the green light starts to flash. No light in my opinion would indicate no power getting to the charging base. Either that or a problem with the circuitry.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I confirmed there is power on the socket so will see what this warranty process is like now.

    Really appreciate your help.

How did you get on. Went out to mines during the week there after last weekends storm and am getting the same thing, no power to the mower, no lights on and have checked with other sockets, still nothing.

machine working great, serious value for money. Have had no electrics issues yet, touch wood!

I even found a crowd in Thurles doing the blades, the do these Titanium blades which last a lot longer than the originals. Fast free delivery too:

Sure beats waiting 2-3 weeks for blades from China.

I have the 500m2 one of these.
The only issue I have is that it doesn't retain charge when docked. After it cuts, it returns to base and charges to 100%.
However the battery then starts to slowly discharge instead of maintaining 100%.
If it's rainy for a few days it then won't go out to cut because the battery is not fully charged.
I considered putting a timer on the power to the dock to cycle the power and get it to charge fully each day but this introduces a loop error.
    Anyone have any ideas?

So, I had some water ingress to the display and buttons and the buttons got intermitent working.

I opened the mower and solved it. Did some heat though the buttons and got the flex rigth and they got to work again.

But now I always got the error "Mower Outside", is there any chance that I forgot to plugin anthing or just broke an antena or something?

I have the smaller 500m model and it does a great job, except for one issue…when the rain sensor is triggered (not infrequently over here) then the mower returns home. Problem is it stays there until I pull it out and put the pin in and hit start to go again. Schedules are set etc so doesn't seem to be that.

    Any ideas?

seems that you need to do that after rain sensor kicks in…mine is the same…

If it's the 1000sqm version then the software update should fix that. Or at least it did on mine

One of my charging stations seems to have stopped working unfortunately…will take it up and have a look but have already tried wiping off the contact points etc to no avail…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭mcauleydjm

I've had one die too, no power output at the contacts - I haven't opened it up to check what happened or if it can be fixed yet, luckily I had a spare so swapped it out.

Power still getting to it as the light is on and green still..just wont charge the mower unfortunately…

When you say "no power output at the contacts" I presume you men yours is/was the same..had power going to station but not charging the mower??

Have tested mower on another charger and it charges, so is an issue with the charging station contact points I'd say…

    Hi.

I bougth our Mower (Lidl PMRDA 20-Li A1) back in summer, and it doe a good job in our small back garden. I would also like to use the same mower for the front lawn. Is it possible get a second base station to power the proximity wires for the front garden, or are there any other option to do this?

    Couple of questions

What is the recommended procedure for winter storage - battery at 60% ?

Can you wash the underside with running water ?

Should the battery be disconnected over winter

Is it OK to leave the charging station outside ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭mcauleydjm

Yes - I measured the voltage at the charger contacts where the mower docks to on the faulty dock and a good dock. From memory it was ~20v on the good one and nothing on the bad one.

I have a question on replacing the (PMRDA 20-Li A1)screen display and buttons units.

I have the older model  (Lidl PMRDA 20-Li A1) and the buttons will no longer turn on the mower and as I see posted early this seems to be a common problem with water ingress.

I'm wondering has anyone ever tried to replace the screen and buttons with new model (PMRDA 20-Li B2) screen and buttons? The parts can got off the Grizzly Website as per the below.

    image.png image.png

Existing (PMRDA 20-Li A1) display and buttons.

New (PMRDA 20-Li B2) display and buttons.

I would appreciate any guidance on this as I dont want to buy the replacement parts if they wont fit and power on the mower.

Hi POS100, I'm wondering was this display off the newer Model PMRDA 20-LI B2?

I currently have the older Model PMRDA 20-LI A1 and have taken off the display and looked under the buttons and it looks different to this picture.

    Hi Jim,

    I haven't tried this.

However I did notice that one of my moisture ingress non starting PMRDA20-Li-A1 bots did a firmware update when I put it in the dock and connected the app.

It then cut away all day - however as expected the start button didn't work so I couldn't do any menu activity that required the start button or turn it on when it powered off. The display still works 100%.

This confirms that if we get an alternative way of starting a failed bot it is usable.

Whether the replacement keypad will work or not depends on what all is damaged by the moisture, if the damage is localised to the keypad circuit then potentially if the connections are compatible it should work.

If moisture has damaged part of the keypad interface to the controller (what I suspect) then this may not work.

I hope to revisit my attempt at bypassing the keypad again and see if Ican get the broken one functioning, even finding another pin on the controller that will allow the bot to bootup would do.

    John

Hi All real great info on this thread. I have an issue that I’m not clear on how to solve. I have a short tiled 2mx2m patio that the robot Ned’s to cross to go to another part of the lawn. I think creating a gap with boundary wire through the patio solve this. If so how wide should the gap be so as not to confuse robot. Thanks in advance

    Hello.

I wanted to ask if it is possible to set the mowing zones for the robot so that on a certain day, it mows only one specific zone and does not leave it? It is clear from the instructions how to set the zones from where the robot will start mowing. But if the robot moves chaotically, it will likely leave this zone. Could it be possible to connect the boundary wire in parallel by zones, as in the picture? Will the robot respond properly at the connection points in this way?

    Hi John,
Thanks for your guidance on my issue.
My mower display is working when put mower in the dockining station to charge. The buttons on the mower have no response. I do also get the red lights on the board to light up when I plug in the button wiring loom but this doesnt turn on the display.
The mother board looks ok for water damage visibly but it could be the button pin. The buttons have gone very soft and dont make a sound when pressed or spring back up.
I have been onto lidil with the warranty and I'm waiting on a replacement since August. If I get new replacement I will swap out the full top part over to older PMRDA20-Li-A1 to see is it just the buttons .
