    Poor selection by Leo.

Well, Barrett is a better option for 23 than Henshaw for sure. Having him coming off the bench and revitalising the attack isn't a bad idea, it worked very well against Quins.

It looks like they are rotating the three centres, not unlike Ireland.

I hate the Healy/Porter switch after 20 minutes. If Porter gets an injury, what then?

That is just mental. Why are we **** around with selections at this stage?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 32,765 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Yeah. Henshaw is still an Irish starter all things considered. It's just a different use of resources - not one I care for and I'd hope they swap in the final, but it's no big deal.

I can not remotely understand the Healy reasoning. I hate the entire logic of bringing Healy off after 20 mins anyway as it is just abusing the lawbook but he's also poor cover if he has to play a long time.

O'Connor is mentioned a few other players expected to start. Putting it together it looks like the starting team is this:

Healy, Sheehan, Furlong, McCarthy, Snyman, Conan, VDF, Doris, JGP, Prendergast, Lowe, Henshaw, Ringrose, TOB, Keenan.

Still a very strong 15 and bench when you consider we have Porter, Kelleher and probably Baird and Deegan to call upon up front. Barrett in the backs too. Still would rather we go whole hog at the start. Think I'd prefer Boyle in place of Healy as well.

Fair enough, q'ing on the steps for 30 mins to get in might have tainted my view.. maybe I need to go back for a 2nd view..nothing in my mind sticks out as being memorable..

If Porter gets injured , Healy comes back on.

Front-row is the one place where you are allowed do that - If a prop is a replaced with a tactical sub , they can come back on for a subsequent injury/HIA.

I get the idea behind it - Refs have a view of Porter and if he gets penalised early in the game then that's that - It'e penalties all game or Porter just has to basically "give up" and just lock out instead of using his power to attack.

But, if Healy starts and shows stability and even a little bit of dominance without the Porter baggage, when Porter comes on his dominance more likely gets rewarded as the "scene" is already set.

You'd think Porter would just start games locking out, and wait a bit before messing about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 440 ✭✭conquestscarer

From experience the first scrum isn't the one you lockout in.

Very strange leaving arguably your best player on the bench, Barrett would probably only have 4 meaningful games left for Leinster, 2 x semis and 2 x finals. It's underutilising your best asset for little or no benefit apart from resting him

The bars near where I was in the stadium ran out of beer.

Listening to the Indo Rugby podcast and they make a good point about Leinster being far stronger squad wise this season than compared to last. The signings have helped massively, but we also had a fair amount of injuries going into the game at Croke Park. Our backline for this weekend will especially be different.

Last season Frawley started at fullback, Larmour was on the wing, Osborne started at 13 and Moloney was in the second row. They're all good players, but the players that will start this weekend are all better. You also have Sam Prendergast who is already quite a bit better than Ross Byrne. At least when it comes to the more attacking side of things.

Healy also acts as an emergency option for TH and Hooker.

If they dont see a huge difference between Boyle and him then having that extra safety blanket cover in a knockout game in case there are unfortunate injuries might mean it is worth giving him the nod.

Is there any update on ticket sales? Still loads of seats left on TM and hard to know what sections are even open/closed. As per usual EPCR completely taking the piss with ticket prices.

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 44,833 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

yeah they fcuked it up completely, could have been a sell out on a bank holiday weekend, but they gouged on the price.

12.5% ticketba$tard fee on top as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,129 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

it should have been an easy sell. Especially well priced family tickets given the weekend and the kick off time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,018 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

I wouldn't say there are loads of tickets left. Have you looked at the ticket map and clicked into the sections? The two corners have a good amount of seats and it looks like half the top tier behind the goal is closed with the other half unsold. But otherwise, it's sold.

To me, that's sold pretty well all things considered (cost, opposition etc).

This might be the most SoCoDu thing i'm ever gonna write but….

Anyone know where the best bet to park a cargo bike up would be around Lansdowne? Bringing one of the youngsters, and no darts has now complicated things.

There's a couple of cargo bike spots on Herbert Park:

I'm sure there are other options if you are approaching from a different direction.

If you want to be cheeky you can try the car park of revenue building on the other end of Lansdowne road beside the IRFU head office.

AFAIK the security station isn't manned on weekends (not that they'd care anyway) and there's bike lock space just beside it.

When is the team due to be named?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 17,367 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

Lunchtime tomorrow I assume..That's the usual time for a Saturday game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,805 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

    This.

If this were France, he'd have played 80 minutes basically every 6.5 days since his feet touched the ground.

Are we keeping him for the URC final in 6 weeks or wtf?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,044 ✭✭✭typhoony

The only thing I can think of is that the player/new zealand had it written in his contract that he only play x number games/minutes while at Leinster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,805 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

I can't imagine so. But if it is the case, we shouldn't be getting into those sort of deals, not at the price they come at.

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 44,833 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

why, what price has it come at??

i seriously doubt that information is anywhere near the public realm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,942 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Can only assume they want to be able to bring him on as a game changer, open it up after the pack has been kicking the stuffing out of them for a half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,940 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

Have Leinster stated there aren't restrictions on Barrett starting ahead of Ireland internationals? Maybe it's like the deal with Snyman, and they're not allowed to select Barrett over Henshaw in crunch games.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 32,765 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

They have selected Barrett over Henshaw in a crunch game though, so it's unlikely.

There are rumours there is some kind of restriction, but it's unlikely to be that blunt. To be honest the Snyman one is a bit meaningless as I don't think he'd start ahead of Ryan and McCarthy anyway.

Leinster do a pretty good job of not biting the hand that feeds them or at least only biting it selectively. They paint a picture of what the IRFU says they want to see.

Saturday is obviously a must win but far lower risk of a loss than either team they would potentially face in the final. Starting Barrett this weekend over either Ringrose or Henshaw would cause a decent sized storm, especially with the guaranteed petrol thrown on the fire from the usual social media moaners and media looking for clicks.

Rather than dealing with this blowback, they take the minimal risk of keeping Barrett in reserve for this game, allowing themselves full freedom to do what they want in the final.

It is also an example of relying on Irish players for most games they can then point to when making requests to bring in players in the future, the likes of Ioane.

Other provinces seem to take the opposite approach and nearly go out of their way to paint a poor picture for to the IRFU and then wonder why they dont get their way.
