Not a great day at the polls for Ben Gilroy last week, he couldn't manage to get past the first count in his home constituency of Meath West, with 416 votes (1.1% of first preferences). The people of Fingal West managed to find a single extra vote in their hearts for him but Fingal East was worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,767 ✭✭✭whippet

how many elections is that now since 2013 ? from the lofty highs of 6% of the poll in that byelection to 1.2% in the 2014 Europeans, got a bump to 1.9% in the 2016 General Election, that strong performance gave him a gain to 2.09% of the vote in the 2019 Europeans (the Hurley played a bit part in that jump) … but the decline then followed with 1% in the 2020 General election (I think the government invented Covid to keep him out of the Dail)

And as for 2024 - 1.1% in Meath West makes the 0.8% tally in Fingal East look like a blip.

Can we safely say he is irrelevant at this stage ? 6 elections - 1-2% each time

I wonder how this works for the European Elections, they don't have by elections, just a list of "replacements".

I always wonder if a celeb candidate would/could run in every constituency, use the name to get multiple seats and pass them off to his "list ".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭A350-900

It would be entirely possible. Once they stump up the required deposits they could run.

Sure don't certain Dublin based God Squadders run in every constituency?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,149 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Pretty certain that would work; but we'd probably be pressured to go for a single national constituency by the EU after that.

UK bans people running in more than one constituency so we may need to look at that. Councillors getting elected twice is becoming a problem too.

In 2019, Sharon Keogan got elected to two wards in Meath. I think someone else did also but I can't remember.

In 2024, Paddy Holohan got elected to two wards in South Dublin.

Historically there was a lad who was on adjoining wards - in different councils. Waterford City and Waterford County. This is allowable!

These are the results of a man with a fondness for losing deposits.

On the topic of financial misadventures, did the bank ever get round to taking the house off him?

More woes for Caitriona Carey, 46 more charges. What I found interesting are her co-accused, who are also charged with acting unlawfully as a solicitor, as these names don't include a person who was previously involved in her companies who has been held out in the media before as a "solicitor" despite holding no professional legal qualifications.

I think the Companies Act offences would give pause for thought to other people operating in the same sphere who decided to incorporate companies for reasons and then decided that filing annual returns, accounts etc. was all a bit of a palaver.

The Supreme Court refused to hear a case of a Freeman who wanted to change his name on his driving licence (no problem there) but then have replace the signature section on his licence with "Christopher-nicholas, I reserve all my rights".

When dealing with the RSA, they were having none of it…

This submission was rejected by the respondents, who informed that applicant
that they could not accept the addition of the words ‘I reserve all my rights’ in the
signature therein. It appears that the respondents believed to do so would be in
breach of the applicable legislation and regulations in relation to the issuing of a
driver’s licence. The respondents contended that the presence of these words,
which were provided as part of a statutory declaration in his application for a
driver’s licence may suggest that the declaration was being made on a conditional
basis. It appears that this was unacceptable to the applicant for a variety of
reasons, including that he is of the view that legislation and statute is not valid
law, as valid law comes only from ‘God and maxims that have their origins in
canon law and ecclesiastical law’. He also claimed to be exempt from the
legislation by reference to his belief that he enjoys a private diplomatic status.

The High Court refused to entertain a judicial review and he then went to the Court of Appeal, where he filed a motion to adduce new evidence.

In this motion, the applicant sought to adduce three pieces of further evidence for use in his appeal, namely two judgments from the United States Supreme Court, and a form of documentation which suggests that Christopher-nicholas O’Hara, as appears on the applicant’s birth certificate has been designated as a corporate entity which is subject to being traded on the New York stock exchange.

Unsurprisingly, the Supreme Court has declined to hear this case.

Ten years on, Colm Granahan (sometime friend of Mayo's greatest love machine, Joe Doocey) is still at it. This time bringing an application as a "sovereign" seeking to spring the Strokestown Three from jail.

Some choice averments in his affidavits:

Each affidavit identifies the deponent as “a sovereign living person ever present from fertilisation until last breath” and the relevant averments are, in short, “I say the evidence contained in the affidavit of Colm M. Granahan is true and factual”.

Proper oldschool Freeman classics abound including "the real constitutition that they're keeping from you".

    (1) I stand as a free, living man upon the land known as Eire under the sovereign authority proclaimed on Easter Monday 1916, and governed by the lawful, unrevoked 1919 Constitution of the Irish Republic. I do not recognise or submit to the jurisdiction of any corporate State, legal fiction, or commercial construct.

    (2) I act herein in full lawful standing and with moral duty to defend the sovereign men and women of the Irish Republic specifically the McGann family of Falsk, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon who were subject to criminal trespass, armed intrusion, and unlawful eviction from their private and inviolate home on 11 December 2018.

    (3) Said home and lands are recorded in E-I-R-E.ie and under UCC filing as sovereign estate, not subject to corporate or Crown-derived commercial jurisdiction.

It appears that the above website is a new Cash-for-Paper scam where Freeman have created a fake Land Registry where for the low low fee of €500 (and numerous personal documents), you can register your property holdings in a way that means absolutely **** nothing.

A true legal expert at work 🙄

    5. Yesterday, Mr. Granahan was in court before me and ultimately decided not to proceed with the application yesterday in circumstances where, unfortunately, some documentation was left on the train

This is the most freeman-ish one I've read in a while.

A sign with the signature of a man who has said he will not comply with orders to stop extracting peat from a Co Laois bog has been erected saying anyone who “trespasses” on the land will be charged “€100,000 per minute”, the High Court has heard.

Liam Gorman, Silverwood, Mountmellick, Co Laois, has been repeatedly ordered by the court not to trespass on the 400-acre Garryowen Bog in Tinnahinch, owned by Bord na Móna Biomass (BnMB) Ltd.

The court has found BnMB is the owner and it is Mr Gorman who is trespassing.

At one point, he disputed the jurisdiction of the courts and specifically claimed the High Court was “legally non-existent”.

The court heard a notice , signed by Mr Gorman, had been erected on the bog stating: “Warning Notice – No Trespass” and “Common Law Jurisdiction Applies Exclusively”. “There will be a charge of €100,000.00 per minute per man, woman, or corporation and for any incursion what so ever”, it said.

I haven't really seen any names of those who are involved - are they the usual names that have been doing the rounds in the west / north west region for a few years?

A lot of the people who lost their minds in during the Covid Pandemic in there.

I think I posted on them previously where they resurfaced with their fake Land Registry, which is a variation on the classic "cash for paper" scam that has been run for years in these circles c.f. fake trust deeds, magic number plates, get-out-of-jail-free cards. Looks like Ol' King Billy and his heriditary claim to 1916 has been sidelined a bit by the newcomers.

for my sins I just had a look at their facebook page.

First off - I don't know what is is with the font they are using on 'official' documents - but makes it really hard to read.

And I see that a Mr Granahan is now our Chief Justice. I remember him from his fearless pursuit of justice for Joe Doocey back in the day.

They do love a bit of finger painting with their signatures

Joe Doocey, there's another blast from the past. For recent viewers, he's a Mayo based Freeman who keeps running into (and over) bother with the Gardaí, his exes and sundry others. I think one of his origin stories is that his sheer animal magnetism meant that the wrong woman fell in love with him and her previous partner was either a Garda or Revenue official and since then the State's been out to get him.

Granahan's still about, regularly filing papers in the High Court and making habeas corpus applications on behalf of some of the Strokestown Mob.

Yesterday I asked Mr. Granahan questions about his role in the application, given the very obvious fact that he himself is not detained. He confirmed yesterday that he is not a solicitor or barrister and does not hold himself out as having any legal qualification. He also confirmed yesterday, and reconfirmed again today, that he does not represent others. He would not answer me when I asked whether any of the three individuals identified in para. 7 of his affidavit were even aware of today’s application, but it is clear that he moves it in the following circumstances, namely: “…to defend the sovereign men and women of the Irish Republic specifically the McGann family…” (para 2 of his affidavit).

Pretty hard to be Chief Justice if you've told the High Court you don't possess a professional legal qualification…

I’m not sure if it has made the news back home but some evil fúcker in Victoria shot and killed two coppers and seriously injured another when they came to arrest him on historic sex charges.

There was 10 cops who turned up for him so they must have been expecting trouble.

Changed his surname to Freeman a few years ago and has been in trouble over driving (surprise surprise) offences
