At the same time as Henshaw is being undersold, I think we might be overhyping Osborne a bit. Saying he’s as good a fullback as Barrett is a big call.

I can see the logic in saying he’s a better option for 23 but right now Henshaw is the better centre.

I was very much on the "Osborne should replace Henshaw" train, but to be fair Henshaw has been very good post 6N. He has had a pretty poor season though overall and I don't think he makes a lot of sense as bench cover.

Obviously its only one part of the picture, but I think Osborne offers more going forward than Henshaw (not that Osborne is a slouch in defence). So I think it will come down to what management value most. Given our current defensive structure and focus on it, I think a defensive 12 is critical. Henshaw has always been excellent at leading the defensive line.

PS - Henshaw is 31. Are we really putting a 31 year old centre out to pasture due to age already?

No darts south of grand canal is going to make it a **** show going to the game. Would advise everyone else going in to give a lot more time than usual. Will probably need to drive somewhere early in my case

You clearly just don't like him or you weren't watching if you can't even acknowledge that he played very well in his last three games. You're referencing one bad decision he made as an indicator of his entire rugby ability which is utter nonsense.

And 31 isn't old for a rugby player, ridiculous thing to say. VDF is 31, Furlong is 32, Lowe is 32, JGP is 33.

You can find multiple posts from me in the past where I've said I thought he was the best centre we had, and a better 13 than Ringrose. I like him plenty, but that doesn't mean I can't see when he's declining.

He had a poor 6Ns, that decision to cut inside was simply the perfect encapsulation of where he's at. I put more weight into games at the top level than I do ones where the opposition barely got off the bus. I really don't get the resistance to accepting the basic premise that Jamie Osborne, who is having a really strong season and who covers multiple positions well, is a better bench choice than Henshaw.

I mean…the Leinster coaching team had him at 23 for the Glasgow game over Osborne and I'd hazard they know better than either of us. So "accepting the basic premise that Osborne...is a better bench option than Henshaw" is just your opinion, not some well established and accepted fact that you're implying.

Also Henshaw can only play what's in front of him. Check any player ratings from any reporter for his last three games, they've been pretty good. You might not like him, fine, but his performances have been widely praised.

Thats of course as it stands, very possible Osborne gets the nod on Saturday.

Indo saying only 30k tickets sold. The EPRC are marketing the game and obviously made a hash of it. Too greedy with the pricing ! If Leinster were in charge it would be a sell out.

It's only Tuesday. Do they normally sell over 75% this far in advance?

Why did they not go for Croke Park again? That was fantastic last year.

I hate the Aviva, if it was on anywhere else I'd be at it.

If they only sell 30k tickets it shouldn't be too bad going but it will still be tough. If you are not there two and a half hours before kickoff it'll still be very hard to find parking anywhere close.

I dunno, it looks fairly well sold to me. Long ends more or less sold out top to bottom. Behind the goal sold up to and including the premium with only really corners and the top tier behind the goal with lots of seats.

cos Croke Park is complete shite possibly.

Ultimately EPCR pick the venue and may have thought it wasn't likely to sell out. Or else it just wasn't available.

Most of them were, have a look at the ticket map on ticketmster. Resale tickets at the very back of the long sections.

Croker is a terrible venue for rugby. If I never had to go there for a game again I’d be happy.

You couldn't pay me to go to another game v Northampton in Croker.

Was in the Hill last year and would have left at HT to go to the pub if i wasn't there with kids.

The number of family tickets seemed to be extremely limited, but they have released more now so they might get a bit of a late bump.

The Aviva, even when not full, is vastly superior to Croke Park in every respect.

For me, it was a novelty the first time (this time around) a game was there, it's been a complete pain every other time since. If there's never a Leinster game there again, it'll be too soon. I also found it a pain to get to but that's obviously a very personal complaint 😁

The Aviva is the worst stadium I've been in anywhere that has top level events.

Oh God, I hate Croke park for rugby.. it's too big and you are too far away from the pitch..

Aviva beats the pants off Croke Park no comparison. Croke Park is only good when full and even then you’re so far from the pitch that you need binoculars. Aviva to me is a great stadium I really don’t see why some find it less so. I suppose seat selection is a key driver

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,129 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

I don’t love the Aviva, on big match day the atmosphere can be great but when there’s a smaller crowd it does be dead. Take it for rugby every day of the week over Croker though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,028 ✭✭✭For Petes Sake

Nothing against the Aviva as a ground. I think it's great.

Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, a large section of the crowd who go to games there (be it for Leinster or Ireland) are complete and utter bellends who have no interest in the actual rugby.

The Aviva needs a terrace. In its current state it is pitiful IMO. Compare it to Tottenhams stadium last year and it shows how shite it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,942 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

that stadium is newer, and was built specifically to meet the requirements for the NFL iirc. It's one of the nicest stadiums I've been to. Not an entirely fair comparison.

Was looking at the backline that started against NH last season:

JGP, Ross, Lowe, Osborne, Henshaw, Larmour, Frawley

Compared to likely for this weekend:

JGP, Prendergast, Lowe, Barrett, Ringrose, TOB, Keenan

Only 2 players starting in the same position with 5 changes, and I'd argue all 5 changes are improvements.

You might not like it , but those 15-20k casual fans at big games help make the likes of Barrett and Snyman possible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,065 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

The Aviva is a brilliant stadium for all things considered. Obviously I'd like it to have 4 full sides but that's one for the future hopefully.

The facilities are absolutely brilliant I think, you can easily access it from all sides so no bottle necks and good crowd management.

When the stadium comes alive also, there are few better stadiums. I've been fortunate to be in there on some very good days. And when it's good it's great. The problem is those days are few and far between.

Too many patrons not willing to rattle their jewellery at the teams unfortunately

Precisely that. And when I go with my wider family despite them not being absolute rugby nuts, they still enjoy the occasion and see it as a big treat to go . Not sure id like to be there with a Boards type fan base in all 50k seats
