No one expected it, not at half time or when they got it back to 2.

Players Fought to the end and just got enough scores against the wind to win

I know he didn't score a lot but Matthew Costello was clearly MOTM.

What a performance from the whole team. So many great moments. Even down to Caulfield having the balls to kick pass to Aaron Lynch to put 3 in it late on. That wasn't an easy pass and he had the vision and ability to execute it right into Lynch's chest. The 'safe' option would have been another close handpass and likely turnover.

I'm emotionally drained after that. Last time we beat Dublin, I witnessed it with my Dad and sister. Since then, both have passed away and I was there with my two daughters, so a few tears were shed.

Honestly, as soon as the goal went in, I would have put the house on us losing it. We were making absolutely criminal mistakes, gifting possession back to Dublin. You could see the panic in the team with the finish line in sight, but all credit to them, they saw it out.

Generally outstanding performances from the whole team. Billy Hogan made some excellent saves. Keoghan rolled back the years in defence. Conlon had a coming of age performance and Frayne probably had his best game for us. But Costello was something else! He just seemed to be everywhere all at once. He was able to set things up going forward and break up Dublin attacks in defence. Incredible performance from him.

Noticed that, after the initial celebrations (which were warranted), they were back to business and warming down. Last time we beat Dublin, we didn't show up in the Leinster final. Louth have had our number the last few times and they're likely to outnumber us in two weeks time, so I've no doubt that Robbie will be drilling it into the players that they've won nothing yet.

Still though, what a f*cking day!

well done today lads great win , i have been arguing the point that the most improved team in Gaelic football will be meath since the new rules came in great win and a statement win ,

Great win for Meath, showed a lot of nerve to see it out. Should be a decent final although I'd have Louth as slight favourites

Don't think I've ever wanted to go to a Leinster final before but being a Kerry man exiled in Meath, I might pop in for this one!

hopefully the upcoming leinster final wont have the same conclusion as the previous one between these 2 teams..

Aw, really sorry to hear about your dad and sister. Unfortunately, many changes in all of our lives since we last beat the dubs. Fair play to you keeping the flag flying on this board in recent years and today was such a great day. Hopefully we can finish the job in the final. It will surely be a great day and you would expect just as close as in 2010. So many great performancess from the team today.

I know that they won’t do it but wouldn’t it be something else if the under 20’s final was moved to the same day in Crocker before the senior final.

Very emotional indeed for you Hammer. Just delighted for you and the girls. It's a quiet thread but you keep it alive, and for that you deserve so much respect. Let's hope there are more good days out in the summer.

delighted for ye it was a great win , but what must be pleasing is the age profile of the team, your dad and your sister are smiling down on meath football tonight , keep the flag flying is all you have to do

Well done lads but that's the attitude, won nothing yet.

Should have been a bigger crowd in Portlaoise today but kudos to those who attended.

Dublin should be split in two R.I.P.

Well done meath. Brilliant to have a leinster final without dublin ( no offence). Leinster final should be some occasion. Will it get 40 thousand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Both teams were badly supported. Would have been more at an O'Byrne cup match between Meath and Dublin 15 year's ago. That's what happens when 1 team wins it 19/20 years or whatever they're on.

Enjoy the final lads, could be the last proper Leinster final for a long time.

The buzz is back amongst the Meath public for the first time since 2010. Not even 2019, the last time we were relatively competitive, came close to this level of interest probably down to no hallmark victory. I know loads of people who haven't even mentioned Meath football over the past 6/7 years looking to get tickets. It's great to see.

Thought sonny678 would have provided an in depth analysis by now, in fairness he was ridiculed but right. Hope he didn't have a heart attack during it!

Anyone know will jack Flynn be back in 2 weeks ?

Still on cloud nine after Sunday! Really hard to know how Sunday week will go. I thought Ronan Jones was brilliant when he came on and, if he's fit enough, he would be a massive addition for the final. Kildare supposedly were dominant in midfield on Sunday and probably should have won but messed up a heap of goal chances (while also failing to have a single two-pointer). I'd hope that the final league game will be used as a motivation tool as I'm sure they were livid with their performance and leaving promotion behind them.

While we do appear to be slight favourites in the bookies, and there is pressure on us given that we dethroned Dublin, there is also pressure on Louth. It's their third final in a row but the first without Dublin so there'll be an expectation for them to finally get over the line. Also, pretty much the entire country will be rooting for Louth.

Hoping that it can be a good crowd. I think around 50,000 would be a decent attendance. Looking at Ticketmaster, the lower tiers seem to be nearly all done with only the corners of the Canal end and the Hogan available.

    2025 All-Ireland SFC draw

Group 1: Ulster winner, Connacht runner-up, Tyrone, Cavan

Group 2: Munster winner, Leinster runner-up, Roscommon, Cork

Group 3: Leinster winner, Munster runner-up, Monaghan, Down

Group 4: Connacht winner, Ulster runner-up, Dublin, Derry

Huge incentive to win the final after that draw.

Not a bad draw for the group stages, regardless of whether we win or lose the final.

If we win: Group 3: Meath, Clare (barring a massive upset), Monaghan, Down

If we lose: Group 2: Kerry (barring a massive upset), Meath, Roscommon Cork.

Assuming Kerry win in Munster, Group 3 would likely be an easier ask and we'd likely be second favourites behind Monaghan. Group 2, it's likely that it'd be a toss up between the other three teams behind Kerry for second place.

pretty much the entire country will be rooting for Louth.

How do you work this out?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,599 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Look at how 2010 has been constantly brought up.

U20s lose out in the final to a very impressive Louth side. Very poor performance from us. Interesting to see if any players are brought into the senior squad.

Can't say I've seen it brought up apart from a few click bait social media pages.

I don't think anyone outside of the competing counties would care too much about a provincial final, let alone the "entire country" rooting against ye.

Personally. As a Kerry man exiled in Meath, I'd love to see ye finish the job so beating dublin wasn't for nothing.

Very disappointing for the U20s after a great season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,623 ✭✭✭MacDanger

I'd say most neutrals would like to see Louth win, moreso because they haven't won it in ~70 years though rather than 2010 specifially. Generally though, it will be great to see a new team winning it

Meath @ 4/6 vs 6/4 for Louth with PP, I have had it more like 11/10 to 10/11 with Louth as very slight favourites due to their experience over the past 3 years and probably the best forward between the two teams in Mulroy.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,599 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Minors beaten in the Leinster quarter final by Offaly. Last minute Offaly goal hauled them back ahead after we came back from 6 points down. Two disappointing underage results after the high of Sunday's result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭rpurfield

Heard from a couple of people Jamie Murphy, Eamonn Armstrong and one more drafted to the seniors. Be interesting to see if they feature at all you would think they would or else why bother bringing them in!!

Disappointed for the 20s but seven of that Louth team played in the final last year so they were highly experienced. Once its the only Leinster they win this year I can live with it.

in terms of attendances , people will only follow when things are going well , 20 years ago meath were one of the best teams in the country , 3 years before we won the 1995 all ireland we played waterford in front of 8000 in thurle everyone jumps on the bandwagon when the team starts winning

yeah was the famous stick to your traditional music game , where kieran delahunty nudged anthony daly after knocking over the insurance point in a replay in 1992

Oh you're talking about hurling. I thought you meant football and I was confused.

Really looking forward to the weekend now! Its very surreal thats its been 15 years since we were last here… Its fantastic feeling to have the ol nerves and excitement back again, havent felt that way for sooooo long!

Looks like Flynn wont be starting anyway from wjat I heard. Id like to give O'Neill another go and then maybe bring Jones on for 2nd half, depending how all is going. I think its fair to give the starting 15 another line out again after that win over Dublin…

There will be some atmosphere in Crokers. Louth fans foaming at the mouth for a win and Meath fans looking to get revenge on 2 absolutely abysmal performances against Louth this year and last….Jeez that game last year in Inishkeen was a shocker….

Heres to a super weekend and a double win!!

Hoganstand reporting that Paric Tailteann wont be starting this yr as they dont have the funds inplace to start.

id say the 22 million figure will be closer to 30 by then and another delay.
