solid state doesnt mean it lasts forever, stuff eventually gives up the ghost, but resetting can sometimes resolve some issues, prolonging useful use

the storage on the max is needed if your going to use a lot off apps

Its a fair few years old now. Was bought when the first 4k stick was released. It's had everything done to it and still gives trouble. To say they should last forever is a bit silly to be honest but if that's your opinion then more power to you

Time is contagious, everyone is getting old.

I don't think a lot of people realise this, but as firesticks don't have an actual on/off button, then they are usually always on an "on" state unless either physically unplugged from their power source, whether that be via a wall socket or via the usb on the TV.

So the older the device the longer it's been running and has had its internal components operating and heated up.

i know they are binary, meaning they either work or they don't, but I've definitely 100% seen firesticks that become old and laggy to the point that even factory reset doesn't help much with them. I think once they pass a certain threshold they need to be condemned.

I don't think even Amazon are offering support for gen1 and gen2 now. Loads of apps (streaming) aren't compatible with the older software.

there are some yes and the apps are all getting bigger and more storage also needed - ive only 2gb free on my 4k max gen 2

just tipping my toe in this whole IPTV lark, I got a trial of a service and its really good, I have been quoted €60 for a year, I thought it would be a lot more with the quality of the service

Should of looked this up years ago

We have a portable, plug in mobile broadband via VF.

IPTV service has stopped working on this completely, even with VPN. Just buffering, was flawless.

anyone pm with a decent seller. I got the sky stream for 40 with sports and sports extra and have cancelled contract at end of month, had it a year and they want 120 a month now, they can feck off. Regret getting it but oh well, back to IPTV.

I actually wouldn’t mind staying if they retained the same price but they can f*** off.

I’d want something which shows the tv schedule for all channels, not just what’s on now and next

I'm having some trouble with my connection at the moment and looking for a workaround. I'm using the mytvonline3 app on both the box and my phone. I used to be able to watch channels on my phone when I was at work or out and about but with the new connection I can only watch my phone while I'm on my home wifi, the same as the box. It's a disaster. Seems my connection is locked to my wifi. That means I can't even bring it on holidays or anything.

isp lock may have been activated on your account

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,335 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

Sounds like a ISP lock on your IPTV account, suppliers can lock it. It prevents you moving subs around. I've only ever seen a lock multi room accounts to prevent user using it in different "home".

Just tried my channels. Still working on mobile data. Handy to have it out and about or at someone elses house. That would be a deal breaker for me. Id probably find another supplier first then let my current supplier know Im leaving if they dont unlock.

It's mad that some suppliers have them blocked like that, I've used my stick while abroad numerous times without any issues.

Youve just reminded me we took my box to lustybeg island recently. Hooked it up to the tv in the room and hot spotted from an post mobile no problem. Was glad of it as the freeview offering was ghastly 😄

They have it blocked to stop using "multi room" subs in different houses. My suppliers tells you about the block if going to purchase such a sub. And says you can't bring stick on holidays for example, but is clearly stated.

The point is that somebody could be on the south island of New Zealand and theoretically provide TV service to somebody in Ireland. (I know there would be quality issues, etc but I'm just theorising).

Shutting down Paddy in Waterford is just a drop in the ocean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,150 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

Shutting down Paddy in Waterford shuts down Paddy's customers.

So Paddy's customers need to find a new supplier.

And there may not be many suppliers if they see that Paddy was shut down and ended up with a criminal record.

So Paddy's now former customers decide to get a Now TV sub because there is a good discount etc.

The majority of users are a mixture of not technical enough, not confident enough or not willing to go out and find a service provider themselves and set it up themselves.

    They rely on Paddy.

Now TV doesn't replace IPTV, it's not even close.

I'm a Liverpool fan. With IPTV, I can watch EVERY match they play in if I'm not working. I very rarely watch any other games. Other than that we rarely watch live TV. We use the TV series that the IPTV comes with but if it didn't have that I could torrent them like I did before.

Now TV only shows what you could watch with a Sky package. A lot of matches aren't shown live so is of no interest to the common football fan like me.

If my supplier went down tomorrow I'd find another way to watch my football that wouldn't involve Sky, TNT or Now TV. There are lots of options out there.

The only way Sky and the Premier league get ahead of this is by selling Team packages. Every league and domestic cup game shown via a legal online service for a set fee. That id sign up to.

Anyone used to having a decent IPTV package wont switch to Now TV unless its a last resort. Ive posted before what a good IPTV sub covers. I.E. everything from the mainstream packages / subscriptions and more. Just last night we watched Kung Fu Panda on Netflix. Then wanted to watch Kung Fu Panda 2. Not on Netflix. Prime Video wanted 3.99 to rent it 🤣. Fire up the IPTV and its there. Covered no matter what.
