We will have more Tommy O'Briens not getting a break until 26.

Tommy O’Briens career has been held back by recurrent injuries, not foreign players.

the Barrett and Ioane signings are much less detrimental to player development than Nankivell, Kok, Josh Ioane, Smyman, Abrahams or pretty much every other NIQ ever.

Tommy O'Brien didn't break through until now cause his legs are made of chocolate. It had nothing to do with NIQs.

Which international star blocked ToB? His own body and occasionally Jordan Larmour are the only things to have limited his game time.

If I could choose between TOB never getting injured again and signing Rieko Ioane the choice would be very easy.

Ye Leinster boys are really touchy. I never said this problem was a specific Leinster issue. If a player is available and they are permitted to sign them its not their fault when they do. And you are right, sup par NIQ players at other provinces is a problem. We are better off with an average Irish player getting game time than an average overseas player

'Touchy'??? Surely the posters only pointed out you were wrong re TOB. Do you acknowledge you were wrong?

I haven't read any justifiable reasons against Ioane going to Leinster, most of the posts have been fake facts, the TOB onel wasn't particularly well thought out, he's always been highly regarded but can never seem to string more than a few games together before getting injured.

Anyone got the EPCR presale link for Leinster Northampton?

I registered for the presale but they didn't bother to send me the link.

I'm not a Leinster fan, so my actual view is pretty irrelevant, but I am going to give it anyway.

An Irish province has never won anything without some key NIQ players in there to get them over the line. Never. If Leinster win something this year Barrett and Snyman will have been key to it.

There has to be a balance between development of indigenous players and winning things. In recent times for Leinster that balance has been off and they haven't won a sausage in 5 years.

Would you rather watch a team made up of 23 Leinster men consistently winning nothing, or a team of 20 Leinster men who win things? I think the choice here is easy, and I don't see how the dilution of identity argument comes into it at all. Leinster are still going to be, by an absolute mile, the most homegrown team in world rugby.

The real impact of these signings is the peripheral Irish players who hang around to play a handful of low-key league games a season will not be able to ride on the coat tails of Leinster as readily as they have been to date. I think it will become clear that his is good for everyone, Leinster included.

Is the EPCR ticket link for the semi final not working for anyone else too? Anyone have a working link?

Ye are really really touchy about mentioning anything around Leinster. The "Tommy O'Briens" was an example of a specific problem associated with Irish players in general, so maybe he was more injury related, but the general point is still the case. Would ye feel better if I said Calvin Nash instead? They get f all game time until they are in their mid 20s while the peers the played against at U20 International level are experienced pro's. Look at all squads and see the number of players who live on very limited game time until they are 25/ 25.The game game for talented youngsters unless they are absolutely exceptional is curtailed by the experienced players around them. In the case of Leinster you have international centres playing the big games and another international centre coming in to fill the position when they are not available. Talented youngsters are not getting the exposure or opportunities needed to fulfil their talent. So you should not be allowed sign an NIQ in a position where you have multiple internationals and talented youngsters needing gametime.

Here you go. Years of buying too many gig tickets had me able to figure it out by guessing.

Stop calling people touchy just because they responded to your post with the facts.

It makes you look disingenuous and not willing to have a discussion at all.

That's a great signing for Lienster. As a Munster fan, I'm jealous.

Someone mentioned earlier about him being a great player but a horrible person. From what I've heard about him away from rugby, he's a really good guy. People I know who have had interactions with him say he is completely different to what we see on the field. Nice, polite and humble. Because in the field he comes across as a right asshole. Up there with Itoje.

That's the correct link but it's not working unfortunately. People complaining on twitter. Their link for the other semi final works apparently.

Weird. It was working as I sent it to a friend who picked up a pair. Not working for me either anymore though.

So what position would you allow Leinster to sign an NIQ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,759 ✭✭✭✭Eod100

Thanks but no joy. EPCR couldn't run a session in a brewery.. ;)

I would be of the same mind; as in I wouldn't think Barrett is "holding back development". Barrett is probably aiding their development in allot of ways.

Not happy with what Leinster (& Ireland) have done with Osborne. And Frawley but that's a separate matter.

Barrett is WC, at everything!! But my personal preference is - If Leinster are going to win a European Cup I want it to be with Leinster men. Where feasible.

My underlying point is Barrett is a game changer, but Leinster are stocked at centre. He's not really 'needed'.

I'm nonplussed with Ioanae signing. I have to say what he did and said to Sexton was unsportsmanlike. At best.

Listening to today's Rugby Weekly Extra podcast. Murray Kinsella mentioned he'd heard that Damian Willemse was actually in Dublin a while ago to meet with Leinster. That obviously fell through, but seems there was serious interest there.

Sexton, and a couple of other Irish players, had no problem giving a bit of lip over the years and if you give it you got to be able to take it. I'm not a fan of what Ioane did but I wasn't fan of some of the stuff some of the Irish players have done either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,632 ✭✭✭OldRio

I'm not a Leinster fan firstly. Secondly do you admit you were wrong about TOB. Yes or No will do. Or are you in fact the 'touchy' one?

The only people who aren't happy with an Ioane or a Barrett coming in to Leinster are people who are just resentful.

If a signing like this can "stop someone reaching their potential" they were never going to be playing for Ireland anyway.

What makes it obvious is that people had no problems with a ngatai, tommane or a Ben teo.

I dont hold Sexton up as a sportsmanlike figure. I cant stand some of the things he has done over the years. I also said as much at the time. Esp. the Jaco Peyper abuse. It was as unacceptable as it was stupid.

Genuinely would like to know what other Leinster (& Ireland) players you are referring to with post-match "lip". I cant recall any and certainly none on the Ioane scale of disrespect to another player post match.

I'd have more issue with persisting with Henshaw over Osborne tbh. I wasn't thrilled at the Barrett signing but he's been amazing since he came in. Ioane will hopefully be a great option for the wing/ centre.

Presumably POM too; like his "you're just a sh*t Richie McCaw" line.

Yeah, this pearl clutching over a bit of sledge is OTT. All sorts of **** gets said on a rugby pitch.
