Yeah, he left Dave a relatively easy shot on the green.

Tough loss for Aaron Hill after going into the mid internal break with the lead. The break came at just the right for David Gilbert, he came back out and used his experience to turn it around winning the next 5 out of 6 frames. Aaron had his chances.

    Another few 10-9 finishes tonight.

Jimmy Robertson would be gutted missing out with just a mid range pink required.

Yu Wize may get on a run at the Crucible you wouldn't know.

Last night former UK Champion Zhao Xintong got himself back as well, coming through as an amateur, he seems to be on a mission.

A record 10 Chinese make up the final 32. Got to be some chance of a Chinese winner soon, perhaps this year.

Judgement day was great entertainment again.

Sets it up now for Saturday morning 10am.

Zhao is a lucky boy even to be allowed near the Crucible.

    Edit: draw is out

    Ronnie vs Carter!

What's The story with Luca Bresel? Did he not take part in the championship this year or what? He drops 41 places in the provisional ranking as his championship win from 2 years ago comes off his record. He's now in 48th one place ahead of Aaron Hill.

Also, he was in the top 16 before this tournament so would he qualify automatically or would you have to go through the qualifiers?

Edit: I got this arseways. I missed that he's one of the top 16 automatic qualifiers and he plays Ryan Day in the first round.

Does anyone know if there's been any chat about the ideal height range for a snooker player?

Neil Robertson is quite tall and watching him now, and his hips are above the table when he cues. That's actually pretry unusual for snooker players. Ryan Day and Selby are also tall and it shows when they cue.

    I did a quick Google and it says they're both 184-185cm (6ft-6ft1").

If snooker players were a normal cross section of the population, then there would be some very tall players and very short players, but there doesn't seem to be either.

Any ideas if there's an ideal height range?

Davis and Reardon were tall enough.

But a tall player I'd expect to be more prone to back problems as the years go on. I'd say 5'9 to 5'11 is ideal.

Ricky Walden certainly has had these problems.

Carter is not tall but he is having some back problems now as well.

I’m 6ft 3. I always felt it was a disadvantage. There is more to go wrong, the more the cue moves. Mine moves a lot. My hips are above the table so I have to be careful not to cue down on the ball. I’ve a habit of imparting right hand side that gets worse over a long match and I think it’s because I’ve to bend down so much.

Lots of rumours out there that ITV have lost (or declined) the rights to the Players Championship and Tour Championship.

People will look back fondly and appreciate the situation of the past few years with ITV, affordable Eurosport, and then Discovery plus.

TNT I suppose? I was thinking that it probably is not good that “free to air” stations are being pushed out of showing snooker. But do (UK Irish) youngsters have the patience to watch snooker for hours these days?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Just on the back pain did a quick Internet search Bingham, Milkins, Murphy, Ebdon, IO’Sullivan, Selby all had issues with it.

Particularly Ebdon forced him to retire.

On the ideal height question re preventing back pain, AI seems to think more open stance means less chance of injury, no evidence height an issue it says.

But I was t was thinking in all the years following Ken Doherty can anyone remember him getting back pain?

I never heard of that fella Charl Jonck who beat Ken in the seniors. From South Africa. Ken was 2-0 up lost next four. Jonck played well.

Ken will never win the Seniors at this rate, the standard of competition will only get better as the years go by.

    Confirmed now.

Channel 5 (free to air but not widely available in Ireland) will show the Players' and Tour Championship next season.
The British Open will also follow in 2026/27.

Likely to be a downgrade in coverage. Let's see.

For all the talk from Matchroom, coverage seems to be getting worse with this and the closure of Eurosport.

We might look back at the last 10 years as a golden age of easily accessible snooker coverage.

Sorry to see ITV lose the rights as I enjoyed their coverage. Although I think it's probably the same production company so hopefully same commentators with the likes of Ken and Hendry in as pundits.

The best thing about ITV was putting it on ITV4 (occasionally ITV3). By not scheduling it on the main channel they could show full matches.

Will 5 do this? Or can we expect a bit here, a bit there and clockface scheduling per BBC.

I don't think 5 do much with their add on channels, and I am sure they are buying the rights to maximise their audience on the main channel.

    Let's wait and see.

On a positive note that semi final day empty afternoon session might go (no clash with ITV racing schedule).

Somewhat surprised to see Ronnie got married yesterday to Laila Rouass, his long term partner (if you ignore the last year or so).

Genuinely delighted for him, I think she is a positive for him.

I attribute every bit of his being off form to his break up with the same lady (nothing really to do with yips, mental health demons or cue trouble; these all being symptoms of his personal situation), so I would imagine we will see The Rocket fire again this season.
