Anyone see this before? I wouldn't mind, but up until recently I was happily changing the categories of my linked BOI account, now all of a sudden, won't let me. Throws my budget tracking out the window as most of my BOI entries are put down as General.

    For the Google searchers

    Changing category

You can not recategorise a linked account transaction at the moment.

Those rates still beat my flexible cash funds. Just looked at it this morning and I’m on 1.27% which is about half of what it was when I last looked a week or two ago.

Oddly the Mrs is on 2.09% while she’s on a Standard plan and I’m Premium (albeit a free trial).

I suspect you are confusing the net and gross rates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,535 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

You're right. I'm actually on 2.59% gross. Looks like I've somehow switched between gross and net on my account but I'm not sure how I've managed to do that as the default is gross and I don't see an option to toggle between the two. Oh well, mystery mostly resolved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,623 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

I think after looking your confusion has merit as they do seem to have changed the app to show APY not gross any more. Not sure when that changed.

Is there a way of organising a load of 'regular pockets' into a group ?

    Hey all

I made a bet using a virtual card

I got cold feet and sent the money back to revolut but I can't find it anywhere

    Can anyone help

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,575 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Virtual card money comes from the main currency account you have - so if you paid in Euro it'll just come from your standard account. Refunds might take a few days to appear though?

Are rev points just a gimmick ?

Have a month left to get 150 transactions resulting in 3000 points

    Have Revolut premium

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭JeffKenna

They are if you use them in the Revolut app itself.

Open an Aer Club account with Aer Lingus and transfer all points to that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭feargantae

I struggle to find a use for them myself. Even with transferring all the points to Aer Lingus and getting a free flight after paying all the taxes and fees it's often still cheaper to fly with Ryanair! Obviously everyone will be different but I'm talking about short European flights where comfort can be sacrificed for cost! Maybe for trans-Atlantic flights there's better value in them

As another poster said they're basically only useful to transfer into Avios flights

Problem is you need a lot of Avios to be useful

I wouldn't go out of my way to collect them but a couple of easy wins are to pay a bill from a pocket and set a very high monthly budget so you're always under it

Don't forget to just leave €100k in the points pocket. Gives you 270k points or €5400 off stays per year which depending on what way you look at it is above most deposit interest rates these days 😂

Just got an email to say my Revolut boosted rewards will end the start of May. I'll really miss the tenner a month....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,567 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

    Ha, unfortunately I don't have €100k lying around 😂

Well you don’t have to be that extreme 😂

50k in the points pocket will get you 126,000 avios via Revpoints which is to be far if buying flights the equivalent of around 4% with no dirt tax
That’s enough for one return business class to JFK,Chicago or Orlando

As someone who hasn't had a mortgage, you could argue that a mortgage is the cheapest money you'll borrow, so you're better off leaving it alone and saving the money you could use to pay it off early in some sort of high interest savings account and have it there to use.

Having said that, if I could get a mortgage and could pay it off early, I totally would.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,567 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

I've heard that argument before and never really understood it fully

I get that the interest on a mortgage is typically lower than other loans, and a house is an appreciable asset. This is against something like a car loan which is guaranteed to depreciate and the interest rate reflects that

However, my counter counter argument is that the cheapest way to borrow is to not borrow at all or borrow the absolute minimum amount and pay it off as quickly as possible

In my experience the savings from overpaying a mortgage will be greater than the interest gained on even the best savings account. This is particularly true in Ireland where we're taxed on savings but not taxed on paying off debt

Having said all that, it's also important to try and have some savings available for a rainy day

As well as that Mortgages while they may be only 3 or 4% are for 25 or 30 years or more

So a LOT of interest is paid vs short term loans

Ergo like is not being compared with like there if one says interest on a mortgage is less than half the interest on a car loan or a new kitchen

No one puts mortgage size money on deposit for 20 or 30 years untouched anyway but even if they did, they’d have paid enough dirt probably to buy a 2nd house or BMW x5 or something (if they averaged 3% gross)

Finding the '150 transactions for 3000 Rev Points' a bit frustrating as I'm getting 'Points for the transaction' but it's not going towards the challenge for some reason

Using every point I get for 'Avois'

Anyone know if you buy a new phone from Apple, use a apple gift card but pay the balance with revolut that the handset will still be covered under the insurance that comes with one of the paid plans?

The rev monthly fee is the same as standalone mobile phone insurance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,879 ✭✭✭pureza

yes afaik but go through the Revolut e store to Apple and earn Rev points

    I convert them to avios

Has anyone recently deposited a large amount into their Revolut account?

I would be concerned my account would be frozen. The amount would be deposited from my personal account (in Ireland) which I have used regularly to deposit small amounts into the Revolut account.

Wondering if it’s simpler to deposit smaller amounts in over a period of time or the lump sum.

    Appreciate any advice!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,567 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

I've deposited around €50k before without issues

They might ask you for income verification but they don't freeze your account when that happens

It took me several weeks to fill out the form (mostly due to lack of effort) and had no account freezes

It does not matter whether it is a single large amount of multiple small amounts, they will have systems in place to monitor it as is required by most central banks. People who know how this stuff works, including myself, are not going to discuss it beyond this.

I'd advise you to contact the bank, advise them of you intentions and if necessary provide the required documentation before you proceed.

I don't envy someone trying to do that with Revolut.
