JORDIE BARRETT take a bow. This man is a game changer in every way. Never felt more confident to get the 5th star but we have been here before . One game at a time. Great team performance and a magician in the back line

If we were undercooked we would have been smashed out of the gates. We lost the LA Rochelle finals because of execution and being tactically poor. We lost the Toulouse final because the best player of all time had a great day and the ref rode us.

Insane performance by Leinster but honestly the competition is a bit of a joke when any team scores 100+ unanswered points at the business end of a top flight European competition. This is great for Leinster, but a disaster for the Champions Cup.

The Premiership teams have never been in a worse state. So annoying that Saracwns threw their match, could easily have won that imo. Hopefully Northampton put in a better effort.

The keep them to Zero mentality was just fantastic.

Before this season, no team had ever been nilled in a knockout game in the European cup. We’ve done it two weeks in a row.

Barrett has to start the SF. Absolutely none of this **** about with him on the bench. If an Irish international misses out for one or two games, so be it.

Also it's going to be a struggle for the podcast/media circuit to dismiss this win. You could have accused Quins of giving up last week but you certainly couldn't accuse Glasgow.

Random one but where do people go to get their pre-game lineups, live scores and match reports post game? I’ve been using Ultimate Rugby but it’s shíte and I’m looking for alternatives.

Donncha O'Callaghan (bias personified) wouldn't even discuss Leinsters win last week because he said it was all down to Harlequins being poor.

I think no matter how Leinster win, some people will refuse to give them credit.

God Bordeaux are so lethal on kick through. There looked to be no danger off that set piece move, but Jalibert baited a defender then grubber kicked brilliant to Penaud.

Leinster haven't been tested much with kicks in behind. It's one area where Northampton can absolutely target to see how we cope. You know one of the French sides will if we make the final.

It's been the one area in the defensive system that's been consistently vulnerable. Bordeaux are so good at getting to the edge, we'd really need to be synced up and communicating.

It's harder to get those kicks through when Ringrose or Van der Flier is on top of you though.

Bordeaux switched off after 30 minutes and allowed Munster back in the game. The latter just couldn't capitalise. Their attacking play was dreadful with so many passes above the head or aimed at the inside shoulder, stalling the momentum of the receiver.

Munster won just 57% of their own lineout and at least half a dozen of their lost throws were in the Bordeaux 22. They gave themselves no chance of scoring with such an awful retention rate. Leinster's lineout has malfunctioned at times this season, but I can't imagine ours would be anywhere near as bad as Munster's has been.

Of course this all depends on Leinster beating Castres or Northampton in the semi final and Bordeaux winning their game as well.

Looks like it'll be Northampton in the semi final. They play great attacking rugby, but have given Castres a lot of access to their 22 which they haven't been able to capitalise on.

NH have had a torrid league campaign, they're 8th and look to have no chance of even making the playoffs.

They were nilled by Leicester at home and beaten by Quins whom we drubbed 62-0.

Northampton are what the Irish media claimed La Rochelle were. A big side struggling in the league but using Europe as a palette cleanser to try and play their way back into form.

The latter are in genuine decline though and are a bad team. Northampton might be the real deal who can continue their good European run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,349 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Have Northampton come up against a side who has shown them much resistance yet, especially on the road?

Looking at their away form in the competition, they lost against SF and beat a Bulls side that has only won one game this year in the competition and even in the URC havent looked the same this year.

Feel the absolute ruthlessness of Leinster so far in the knock-outs has been down to what happened against Northampton last season. With the SA tour out of the way already, Leinster should be well primed and won't make the same mistake again and give them a chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 440 ✭✭conquestscarer

I'd have zero fear of that Bourdeax side. A very simple formula to beat them. Don't kick the ball at them and build phases. Also target Penaud and Jalibert, two of the worst defenders in the world.

I was flabbergasted at Penaud in D at times today, he might be the worst defender in Europe.

Pretty sure the worst defender in Europe plays for Leinster and Bordeaux would be targeting him.

On current form, I think it's unlikely we'll end playing Bordeaux anyway. Maybe they'll lift their game for a French derby but neither of their last two performances would have been nearly good enough to beat Toulouse.

Fingers crossed for a Toulon win today anyway. Assuming we can get past Northampton - which we absolutely should - I would have no fears playing either Toulon or Bordeaux in Cardiff. That's not arrogance, I just think Toulon are a level below Toulouse and Bordeaux will struggle against our defence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭CalmaftertheGav

While I do rate Bordeaux, when they click, and Toulon I just don’t think they are the sort of sides that Leinster generally struggle against.

It tends to be sides that can physically stand up to them or even over power them such as Toulouse, La Rochelle or the Bulls in the URC.

If Toulouse get knocked out today I can’t see anyone stopping Leinster provided Leinster keep their head screwed on.

Will our semi final be on the Saturday or Sunday? As we’re on the right side of the draw, I’m guessing it might be the Sunday?

2/3/4 May should know after the last semi final this afternoon.

I'd imagine we'll have a Saturday game, the French the Sunday game.
