Would that geographic spread of clubs around county Waterford be unusual down the years for county teams or the norm? Know previous teams would have more DLS, Mount Sion etc representation.

Indeed. Don't think many here would have Kiely in the backs either.

Lack of composure cost us a win in the last 5 minutes but some performance all the same.

    Threw that away unfortunately

Unbelievable it was like a microcosm of Waterford hurling that !! How they didn’t win .

I think we are jinxed at under 20 level. Just can’t seem to catch a break

Good first half but only scored 3 points in the second half. Cork and Tipp away will be difficult ones to get a result from.

That U20 team is really badly coached. I feel sorry for our backs who fought their hearts out. Again, missing frees and giving away needless frees. Anyone who tells me our free taker is a prospect would want their heads examined. He contributed nothing from general play, went missing as usual, along with again missing so important scoreable frees. Deevy, Walsh, Sullivan all taken off, other lads who went missing left on. Were lucky to get a draw. It pains me to say it but that team is going nowhere

you’d feel sorry for the poor bastards but when it comes to senior as well have to finish games off .

We have three lads in that forward line who are totally one sided with no bottle and they have been found out time out of number at representative under age level when the heat comes on. It's an indictment of them and their coaches that they have been allowed to get to U20 level without any of them being checked on this. Yet again the three of them were allowed to stay on tonight despite contributing nothing and committing needless frees in the second half - one of which ended up in a goal for Limerick - when the game needed to be won. We got what we deserved.

That was a sucker punch. If ever a draw felt like a defeat. Even though we were probably lucky not to lose it at the finish. A win in this grade would’ve been a further tonic following the minors performances last week

There are so many positives to take when the dust settles, some really stand out performers in this u20 group. I can see a few of them progressing to senior level the next couple years. That’s probably it in terms of progressing as will need to go and beat Tipp and Cork away to qualify which is a tall order. Something is probably still amiss in that it was the last 10 mins against Clare the last day we imploded again. But great strides being made in this grade considering last year we weren’t at the races at all. Hopefully we can get something from the last 2 games

I could definitely see some of those lads in the back line progressing but I can guarantee you we will not get one senior forward out of that group.

Give it a rest. They're young lads who are giving it 100%. Easy for you to come on here waffling when the match is over.

Lawlor, Keane & Mackey look good prospects at the back. Ditto up front, for Twoomey & Tobin. What age is Hartley (looks very young) ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,426 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

Hartley only 17. he’d still be a minor in the old system. Some absolute ghouls on here tearing a young lad to shreds. Is it any wonder so many lads don’t want to play for the county

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭Alf Tupper

It's got nothing to do with age, it has to do with attitude and certain lads being indulged from an early age. Paul Flynn was "only" 17 when he won an U21 All Ireland for us. Imagine some of our lads having the character to keep showing like those "young" Offaly lads did against us last Sunday even when they were 15 points behind. We got 3 points in the second half last night. Any idea why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 380 ✭✭JD. 60

Maybe you should ask Ken that question to his face (just stand well back).

Waterford scored 4 points in the second half ; just as well they scored 12 in the first half. That Limerick team recently beat Tipp so our lads mightn't be as far behind as we thought.

Plenty positives at both grades. All you need to pick up a few players is for them to be competitive. This craic of needing to be winning all Irelands is a proven myth and this group looks a far cry from what we’ve seen the last few years. This 20s team could click yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭Pudz2180

bit unlucky last night could have and probably should have won it. Lacked a bit of composure in front of goal in the last 10 minutes which cost us. (Tho limerick had their chances aswell). I have been impressed with the two performances so far a massive improvement on what we have been producing the last few years. As someone said it’s not all about winning all irelands. Be competitive which we have been and hopefully get 3 or 4 lads that will go onto senior which is definitely a possibility with this group. Between the minor & under 20s it’s been a relatively positive start to the season

exactly. Last year the talk was we are the next Offaly and will disappear for 20 years. All of a sudden there’s a decent conveyor belt of talent coming through for the next few years and given the age profile of the spine of the seniors it’s not a minute too soon. Credit to the management for turning it around this year and we’re still capable of getting a won or 2. Limerick beat Tipp so we can’t be too far off them
