^ I've spotted a handful of things cheaper to be honest.

    For example:

Most things which are available on IE - which are also available and being fulfilled by Amazon UK - have a negligible price difference.

But if you're comparing a marketplace seller promoted on IE versus Amazon fulfilling on UK site, it's unfair.

If Amazon IE are fulfilling the DVD, that's a different story.

This is still available at under €17 by the way.

£23 from Amazon EU via Amazon UK site.

^ Re. The DVDs - they were both sold by Amazon (not a third party or marketplace) - I wouldn’t have highlighted it if it wasn’t!

    Frequently bought together

They are trying to sell me a jacks brush with that first power bank?

Hope this is not a subtle way of them reviewing the product.

Would it be worth setting up a Amazon.ie bargain only instead of both on the amazon. u

If it gets to the stage where everyone is moved to the .ie site by Amazon the thread title can be amended but for now I don't see a point. We already have 3 chat threads about Amazon so do we need multiple bargain threads as well.

Don't expect anything from life, just be grateful to be alive.

end up changing the name of the site from boards to amazon chat if that’s the case

    The internet isn’t for everyone

In my opinion, this forum has became bad enough with these god awful threads in which we separate bargains and discussions about said bargains (god forbid they're acknowledged as good value or criticised in the exact same thread for visibility! 🙄)

The thought of having dedicated threads for different variations of Amazon is ridiculous!

    Again, just my opinion!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,221 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Here's my idea. There should be a No Chat thread but anything that is posted in it should automatically be posted in the Chat thread so it can be responded to.

The No Chat thread remains clean with just bargains and the Chat thread has the info there ready for discussion.

Then users who just want to get to the bargains without the chat get that option and the chatters have their chat.

both amazon threads were set up in 2021 - continuations/splits of previous threads if i rem correctly.

the no chat thread is 92 pages, because generally, only bargains are posted in it. mostly .co.uk, but occasionally from EU sites too, and in the future, more .ie will be posted in it.

the chat thread is 347 pages, because generally, there's chat. most of it is useful, some isn't. but that's fine, ignore the stuff you aren't interested in, respond to stuff you are interested in.

so it works, why change it?

    But therein lies the problem..

.. how do people who want the bargains necessarily know it's a bargain without some degree of discussion?

Maybe the quality is poor, maybe it's cheaper elsewhere etc.

I've been on both the side of praise and criticism for bargains I've posted in the past.. but it's all relevant when it comes to finding good value.

If I see an issue with a bargain posted in the Bargains thread.. sorry but I'm not arsed in digging out another thread, finding the post of relevance in the previous thread and starting a discussion on it. Life's too short.

Well considering the chat here and no bargains I'm glad it's not in the no-chat thread

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,221 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

But the old argument is that if you allow chat in the no chat thread you loose focus on any bargains and before long you get requests for links to bargains that are being discussed from pages back.

I can't remember the name of the format where you can have sub discussions but thats what would sort the problem out. This linear format fails in that respect.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Maybe the No Chat thread can be general no chat, like the last posts here today, but you can Chat, or give additional details on the posted bargains, as long as it's short and to the point, i.e., it's been at that price for the last year, or its cheaper here, or I bought it and its crap, type stuff.

And people should not take criticism of a bargain personally, its just a product on an international site, owned by an owner that has more money than everyone in Ireland put together….

    Re: Folding Chairs

These ones on JYSK are cheaper and look to have a bit more padding than the Amazon ones.

Those chairs remind me of my childhood watching wrestling.

If these tariffs hold, we can expect to see floods of Chinese goods getting sold off at cheap prices. With the current tariff rates that Trump has put on them, and a further 50% counter retaliation, it'll price out am awful lot of goods.

Expect to see the EU market getting flooded with these excess products. There should be very good deals on Chinese laptops, tablets, toys etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,490 ✭✭✭fergiesfolly

I think the EU are planning to put in place barriers to stop the Chinese doing exactly this. Similar to the EV car tariffs.

That's the purpose of tariffs, to stop dumping. Now if only somebody could get that through the thick skin of Tangerine Man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 240 ✭✭Seattle

Yeah they're monitoring the situation closely. But if for example Huawei want to sell off excess stock (Laptops, tablets etc.) or if TCL/Hisense want to sell off TVs at knockdown prices, what can realistically be done? It takes time for the EU to implement anti dumping legislation etc. whereas the effect of these tariffs are going to bite immediately.

There'll be short term opportunities for the consumer even though it'll be very dangerous for European companies as they're going to be undercut massively.

Both of these should have serious discussion at the mod level. Either would make the bargain thread more useful than it is now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 540 ✭✭✭Enrico Palazzo

Allowing comments in the no chat thread is only going to make things worse, proper bargains will once again get immediately buried under all sorts of relevant and non-relevant chat, which occasionally happens already now. If you want an improved discussion on bargains have each bargain posted in its own thread with the store at the start of the subject line e.g. [Amazon.ie] and folks can then comment on whatever they please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 694 ✭✭✭ECookie13

Exactly as above. Bargains get buried under trivial, pointless posts that offer no real benefit. The average person doesn’t have time to sift through all the new posts every day.

We constantly see irrelevant content—complaints about delivery delays or people giving us updates on their purchases that no one asked for, threads derailed into unrelated product discussions, or bizarre questions that could easily be answered with a quick Google search. Some of us just want to skip all that and see the bargain links, fast and clear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,514 ✭✭✭JMcL

The thing is that the companies you mention have a reputation for quality - it's the tat that shows up on Amazon/Ali Express/Temu/etc. as the same product with about 50 different names that look like a Scrabble rack that are potentially the problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,860 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Agreed. If the current no chat thread was properly moderated we wouldn't be having this conversation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,090 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

I consider myself an average person and I would prefer everything in the one place.

Currently I have to hop from thread to thread to check if there are any issue with something posted on a different thread.

I find it extremely time consuming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,299 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Am I the only person who reads a thread from oldest unread forward? So if there's a bargain posted and then a lot of chatter about said bargain, I still see the bargain first?

I will say as the numbers viewing boards is dwindling, additional rules will keep people away. So whatever is simplest seems sensible to me.

Its a trade off whatever way its done. Boards.ie has always used a Linear format. However for Bargain Alerts a Threaded Format might be more useful. Each BA would appear at the top level and then replies could be made to individual BA's. Its up to the reader if they want to go into the individual sub threads.
