I honestly find it hilarious that one single report of it catching fire out of almost 500 reviews was enough to dissaude people from buying.

If you look up practically ANY electronic on Amazon, you'll find at least one review complaining of it overheating and / or being a fire hazard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,221 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Some idiots will always manage to create a hazard with a mains powered electrical device. Beat the **** out of it let it get damp and still expect it to work faultlessly.

We have a true family story about an Aunt of mine that had problems with her TV catching fire - back in the days of sets with valves in them. To cut a very long story short she watered plants on the top of the TV and let the water drip down the back. She'd have been the first to say there was something wrong with the TV and it wasn't anything she could have done.

I woke recently when a USB charger stopped working after a bang followed by a burning smell. My own fault I'd used an old 1 Amp charger with a device that needed 2 Amps - should I write a review stating the charger was dangerous?

Wake me up when it's all over.

Anyways - quick little tip that may or may not help others!

If you're on Amazon UK and don't have Prime, you need to spend £35 to avail of Free Super Saver Delivery.

If you're on Amazon IE and don't have Prime, you need to spend €25 to avail of Free Super Saver Delivery.

If you do spot a bargain on Amazon UK, you can change the domain from .co.uk.ie and you'll get the Irish representation obviously selling on Amazon Ireland in €.

    e.g
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazon-Ocean-Exclusive-Vinyl-VINYL/dp/B09QQT2TM7/https://www.amazon.ie/Amazon-Ocean-Exclusive-Vinyl-VINYL/dp/B09QQT2TM7/

    As below:

    Screenshot 2025-03-28 at 15.57.35.png Screenshot 2025-03-28 at 15.57.58.png

You'll notice the price is potentially different and considerably more expensive - but if you click '3 New from £10.33', you'll potentially be able to buy from Amazon UK as a seller which should be "similar" to the sterling price bar a negligible price difference - as below:

    Screenshot 2025-03-28 at 15.58.08.png

The advantage here is that you only need to spend €25 to get Free Super Saver Delivery (providing the items added combined are €25+ and sold by Amazon UK).

Might be obvious to some, but said I'd just flag as an option.

What I want to know is how items can come from Amazon UK to Ireland bought from Amazon.ie in two days yet have a 1-2 month lead time if bought on Amazon.co.uk (with Prime).

    Anyone else spotted this?

Not to mention people don't have any clue how house electricity load works. With new EV plans, let's say with Energia, 2am-6am, they get all the possible things going. Like heat pump, dryer, washing machine, dishwasher, immersion heater, and then they are shocked when all breakers including the ESB one by the meter box go ballistic 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 873 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

It's not hard to stagger times. Very easy in fact.

Houses can be run for peanuts. It's been years since a paid an electric bill because of solar and cheap nighttime electricity.

And they have the neck to say it's 25% off currently. This is the Irish site.

Me too 😉 But people don't have a clue how to work that out

Just to say thanks to Basq for posting.

I received the Intenso battery pack today. Basic enough but it seems a genuine 20000

I charged it for a while and had 3 leds lit

Plugged In my phone and charged from 10 to 100%. Still had 2 leds on the battery pack

In a a spark all my life fwiw and it's probably a discussion for someplace else

I still revert to the 70s habit of cutting power to places/all at times

Noticed that on a shower gel I get regularly from the UK. Has a 2-4 week lead delivery time on UK site and a couple of days from IE site even though it's been sold and dispatched from UK site.

Also, if you are shipping to UK address it's also available immediately.

So clearly this is a tactic to push to IE site. I'm sure this will become more common.

Well the post it was quoting was the example in the opposite direction. Ie a product faster from the UK site.

I ordered item from UK site Wednesday and got it yesterday. Irish site delivery was next Thursday.

So at moment there are examples both ways so not enough evidence for it to be the type of move you suggest.

In the past it has depended where the item is starting from. Sometimes it was faster to order from .de site, sometimes not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,706 ✭✭✭cmac2009

The post I quoted was the same as I experienced. Both are far quicker from IE site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

Exactly yes. And that post (ie that you quoted) was quoting a different post that was saying the opposite. And the opposite was also my experience (ie not quicker from the ie site)

So quite obviously it's not definitive either way yet and is dependent upon the item rather than an overall policy or move as you called it. Some items are quicker some are not.

In time it maybe a policy but its too early and too many contradictory experiences yet to be so determinative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,706 ✭✭✭cmac2009

To be clear, the post that I quoted did not quote anyone else's experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

Cool. This is the one you quoted and it is quoting someone else.

I will leave it there not to derail from bargain discussions anymore.

Hah ha the auld "I'll leave it there" reply. Classic.

Yes, I quoted that post as we had the same experience. As you stated above "Well the post it was quoting was the example in the opposite direction" is completely incorrect. Both myself and user I quoted are referring to the same issue.

I will leave it there not to derail from bargain discussions anymore😉.

Apologies I didn't know it was a classic response.

It was actually dopetech I thought I was responding to - sorry.

Sorry, I see now you had same experience.

My experience was the opposite so I thought dopetechs response was too early to make that suggestion about being a definitive move.

Firstly, you are very confused here. Look at who you are responding to. You appear to believe you are replying to DopeTech.

Secondly, both The Continental and myself (cmac) are stating that IE is faster, that lead times on delivery in the UK have changed to weeks/months. Re-read The Continenatals original comment - he states "how items can come from Amazon UK to Ireland bought from Amazon.ie in two days yet have a 1-2 month lead time if bought on Amazon.co.uk (with Prime).

Fair enough if you have experienced the reverse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 530 ✭✭✭cathy427

YYa. I think our replies crossed.

Yes I though I was replying to dopetech and apologised for the error.

Yes my experience was different hence why I thought too early for such comments.

It's possible the ie website gathers together all the UK and DE orders together and is able to have truckloads delivered in one go while ordering directly from those websites means you receive a slower service. I doubt UK would willing give up profitable ie trade. I wouldn't be surprised if the ie site isn't one of their biggest customers already so of course they're going to get better service.

Is it worth me paying for Prime to get free delivery on the grocery deals?

    https://www.amazon.ie/LayS-Baked-Potato-Salt-150/dp/B00A6TIYZ

    Fixed link: https://www.amazon.ie/LayS-Baked-Potato-Salt-150/dp/B00A6TIYZI

If you're paying a tenner for a bag of salted crisps - I don't think paying for delivery is the foolish part.

    Here's a weird one?

    https://www.amazon.ie/DREISTERN-Vegetables-High-Quality-Nutritional-Preservatives/dp/B09TFHTNS6/

    1. Grocery item
    2. German brand made in Germany
    3. Cheaper on ie
    4. Dispatched from and Sold by Amazon.ie
    5. 7 day delivery time
    6. If bought from Amazon.de same 7 day delivery time

Conclusion - NOT in the warehouse in Ireland so Dispatched and sold by Amazon.ie is meaningless.

I just put an order in for a walking stick to aid my back with walking and a gel mat for sitting on and had / needed to pay 4.05 for P+P for Tuesday delivery.

Total was 48.07 from Amazon .ie as no listing for the stick on UK site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 540 ✭✭✭Enrico Palazzo

It has always been the case on other amazon sites too, sold by amazon.xx does not mean it will come from a local warehouse.

But here is a really odd one: An item is not sold on .ie or .uk (checked by ASIN, brand, searched for all imaginable keywords), I so ordered it on .de with a 7-day delivery time. Two hours after the purchase an email update that it has reached the Dublin warehouse and was delivered the next day. The item is stocked in the Irish warehouse even though you cannot buy it from Amazon Ireland.

The Amazon IE market place is a new operation and I'd say there will be ongoing issues with service for a few months to come. Customers assume its will be perfectly run operation like existing UK marketplace, but the reality is there will be teething problems as new staff get used to new processes.

No new business runs 100% at the opening, especially one that involves huge logistics.
