Breezy to touching windy here in Kerry but getting the Fohn effect and over 17C in good sunshine if a bit hazy, close to 18C in a few local stations.

Ponds almost dried out, great to see the leaves coming out.

Lovely and sunny in N Tipp, but I still needed to wear a fleece until I had got through half the mowing before taking it off, due to that wind.

It looks like you in the West will be getting on average 6 degrees higher than us poor shivering creatures in the East , until Tuesday anyway when that easterly is set to calm down .

Beautiful out here in Dublin ..heading out with fleecy, warm jacket on and hood up ..oh and shades 😎!

I hope the Easterly calms down for ye. The most important layer is your base layer. I'd recommend a merino base layer for mooching around and synthetic base layers for more active outdoor stuff. Even 2 cotton tshirts can work as a good base layer because it traps the core body heat. And make sure to wear good quality thick mountain socks too. Makes a big difference during the winter. We have great clothing technology these days to keep out any cold temps. I would rarely feel the cold apart from my face if I wear the right clothes.

Its on this subject that I usually bring up the fabulous Summer of 2014. No, not a typo. I didn’t mean to say 2013 which was an epic Summer for everyone. However for the 20 mile wide coastal strip down the East and South coasts 2014 nearly rivalled 2013 if memory serves. For the other 90% of the country it seemed to be glorious gin blue skies every morning till mid day when it invariably clouded over once convection got going. However along the east and south coasts the cooler maritime air held down temperatures enough to prevent convection and cloud formation over us giving us gin blue skies all day every day.

With regard to the pesky patch of cloud over Wicklow and Dublin the other day while the rest of the country basked in yet another day of glorious sunshine, I consoled myself that the inverse is often true and actually happened only a few days previously where the rest of the country was clouded/hazed out and there was a ‘stubborn’ clear patch over North Wicklow and South Dublin the whole day thanks to the mountains. The hills giveth and the hills taketh away! LOL.

The same often happens on the west coast in spring and early summer, those April showers type days where cumulus starts forming in the early afternoon and by evening it's fully overcast with rain. But on the immediate west coast you can get a full day of unbroken sunshine as the cloud only starts to bubble up a few km inland.

It's turned out to be a stunner of a day in Dublin today though to be fair, I have a south west facing balcony sheltered from the wind and it feels like mid summer sitting out with a cold beer at the moment 😎

The trick in Dublin today was to be in a sheltered spot. We had a match this morning and the 3 year old was nearly crying with the wind at the pitch 😬 even though he was well wrapped in up in a warm coat.

Then we hit Malahide Castle and parts were very windy other bits sheltered but we were perfect in our coats.

However when we got to playground it was like another planet absolutely roasting! I was left with all the coats😁

After been out all day my husband has sunburn on his face, but he is very fair. He will have to plaster on the factor 50 for gardening tomorrow!

A lovely day today once you had the winter jackets on, it was cold but sunny and not a cloud in the sky, great outdoors weather but you need layers to stay warm.

You would be wearing jackets at this time of year anyway. Dunsany is running 2C warmer than average already and it's very early in the month. Average temp for April is 8.1C. The average is currently 10.1C. You don't realise how good you have it with all this sunshine and dry weather. Embrace it before normal service is resumed 😉

People with solar panels must be thrilled with all this sunshine. I must get some.

You could fry an egg on your solar panels, if you had solar panels, and Sally O Brien and the way she might look at ya.

00-00 tmean of 14.0C for the first 5 days of April 2025 at Valentia Observatory. Nuts, not terribly far from 5C above average. That would be more than 2C above its May average.

12 degrees and a real feel of 6 with the wind and cloudy and misty all day in west cork. Lovely day yesterday, but chilly and windy. Here’s to hoping tomorrow is better! Looks to be clear and sunny 😎

Glorious a week now 🙌 and more of the same till at least Friday or Saturday, the east even warming up a little too , had to water the garden a few times the last few nights as the plants are fairly dry 😀, hopefully this is a taste to come for summer ☀️

    Beautiful here in Wicklow too

I’ve been watching my panels in this weather

Produced over 85kwh of solar today,a new record since install in December

Over 30 of that exported to the grid and zero grid imported thanks to the batteries (15kw) and they were full by 10am

much nicer day in west cork now, pure blue skies and no wind. Bliss!

not a week to be stuck inside an office for 40 hours while sun beaming down outside. I'll make sure to get plenty of short walk breaks in.

Would love to install a Solar and Battery system myself but just don't have the €15,000 atm that I’d probably need for what I’d want. Went down a YT rabbit hole about it actually now being cost effective to add North Facing panels once you've maxed out the other compass points and then a Solar panel mirror reflectors rabbit hole. Interesting stuff. Anyway, lots of comments in the videos about it actually being cost effective to charge the batteries at night rate instead of with the solar and running the house during the day off the battery with the time shifted night rate electricity and just topping off the battery during the day with the solar but exporting most of it back to the grid because the export price was something like 2-3x the cost of the night rate charging. Don't know if thats applicable to you or us in Ireland with our providers export prices and night rates because I think most of the commenters were UK based.

What an exceptional few days we've had, and more to come! It was sure colder than it looked over the weekend with that chilly wind. So nice to look at those blue skies though!

What a beautiful day in Tralee, about 17 to 18C and little or no breeze. Could get very used to this.

Is there a thread to discuss the weather beyond our borders, or is this one ok? I'm in Spain from mid-April and I am worried that they seem to be getting constant lashings of cloud and rain. Is this expected to continue or will I hopefully miss the last of it?

I do find it difficult to look at these things online though. You can get daily forecasts for Spain, but I can't really find any English-language website with written detail.
