Forgot to say, but you really need to put it into Sport and put the boot down from a low speed. Why have it if you don't do that the odd time?

obviously, make sure you do that on a clear road/motorway when there is no traffic.

Saw a beautiful shade of red ID3 being driven by an elderly woman yesterday, brought a smile to my face when I saw the black GTX badges on the side. Fair play to her!!

I haven’t floored it because all journeys to date have been either commutes/errands around town or motorway jaunts accompanied by my wife (!). Since you asked, here’s a pic.

A bit disingenuous from VW. The OTR prices for the GTX PP starts at 39K + change. This brochure would make you think you can grab one for 34K + change.

seems like some sort of typo or bug, when you click one of them it’s correct pricing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,237 ✭✭✭sk8board

using the configuration, a gtx PP comes to 40.9€k with pano roof and cables/mats (basic travel assist), but the gtx comes closer to €2k more spec for spec?

feels like I’m doing something wrong, most of the new pre-spec’ed apps at garages seem to be €43-45k,

anyone want to share their spec price?

VW took a lot of criticism for the software in the pre-facelift models but what is often overlooked is that the software isn't just the infotainment system: it's also the systems controlling the car. For those systems, I think the software has always been first rate with all of the driver assistance systems (with the possible exception of lane assist, which a lot of people don't like) being minimally intrusive, very helpful, and logical. And the infotainment system is now snappy and modern as well.

Totally agree. The software issues are long gone, even on the older IDs, once you get up to latest software. The new screen and infotainment design is even better again.

Automatic lights and wipers just work… unlike Tesla which is very hit and miss so they have their software issues still.

Overall the GTX is a great car for the money. Its loaded with goodies and its a solid build and drive. If you are in the market for a hatchback, that happens to have alot of grunt, its hard to look past it.

Cant speak for Sam but I do it all the time! It doesnt get old! Joining motorways is a good test of it and also adjusting DCC and some spirited cornering!

These Bridgestones wont last long though!

    The brochure is accurate.

    image.png

The €43k and €45k prices are before grant.

The price on the right, €40420, is the OTR price for the GTX PP and you can take €300 off that if you dont want the optional service plan.

This is the first page of the brochure though, and it's a complete fantasy.

looks like a bug alright on that page, but procelist looks good to me. As soon as you start adding any extras, the VRT relief starts reducing, so the option cost displayed, adds more than its cost as VRT relief reduces.

Here is base cost with no extras, with VRT shown seperately

That doesnt look like the brochure. Thats the comparison tool which definitely has a bug.

I think the figure they are showing there is actually ex vat ex delivery eventhough it says it is inc vat. I think that is what the bug is as my order form for the GTXPP showed €34468.28 as the pre-tax price.

so I’m clear - it’s possible to drive away a gtx PP in standard form for €40k? As in, some of you guys have paid that price.

Its exactly what my ‘06 mk5 gti cost, with dsg, aircon and the Vienna leather added 😳😀

    Correct

what’s the real world range on the id3 GTX performance working out to be for current owners?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 785 ✭✭✭Sam the Sham

It’s seasonal and nobody has driven the car in summer temps. My car has been driven about 600km, with more than half of it on motorways where I was driving at the speed limit.

In current temps, car is reporting 397km of range at 80% SOC. That would imply 100% range of 496km, with my usage pattern.

    YMMV. Literally.

Currently done 3000km mixed roads, full charge is coming in at 550 km. Id3 GTX

I was quoted 40420 at a dealer, on the road, for. GTX Performance Plus, in any colour except Kings Red, nothing extra to pay other than 40,420

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,889 ✭✭✭carsfan2

they’re very good range figures. Is there anything you have found that disappoints about the GTX?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 459 ✭✭Tech_Head

Strange how this can be seen as both good and bad.
Considering the difference in years you’d have hoped for bigger jumps in performance.
But then, tech has totally changed in the car and it’s still a similar price despite almost 20 years of inflation.

I came from a 1st and nothing has disappointed, only thing that annoys me is the driving mode keeps defaulting to comfort.

that’s standard on every car for many years unfortunately - it’s safety regulations, so that one driver doesn’t put a car in some sort of track mode and then the next driver doesn’t realise it. It’s in the same bracket as leaving ESP off after you’ve turned it off once

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 459 ✭✭Tech_Head

My ID3 stays on Sports mode (at least the icon does). Haven’t changed mode in months.

    Edit: It’s a 241 Pro 58Kw, not a GTX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 478 ✭✭Liam2021

Yes my id3 1st stayed in sport but not the GTX

There are still a couple of little weird behaviours in the infotainment system. 1) There's a "seasonal theme" (currently Springtime/Easter) background pattern. When I turn it off, it turns itself back on when I get back in the car. In other words: I can't get rid of it. 2) The background colour and highlight colour of the screen are both red. There doesn't seem to be a way to change this without changing the cabin interior lighting as well. This may just be a "me" problem, but I have really tried almost everything.

Not infotainment related, but I don't love the way they now put lighting and wiper controls on the same stalk on the left of the steering column. I thought the old way was better with the transmission on the binnacle, wipers on the right and lights on the left. I also don't love the exterior look and much prefer the ordinary facelift models: the piano black everywhere doesn't look good to my eye and I don't like the design of front lower grill or the fake diffuser in the back. On the other hand, the steering-wheel buttons are now more logical. Also, getting in the car involves far less faffing with giving the car permission to do things: one click on my user name and I'm in, with CarPlay already booted up usually. I also thought I was going to hate the low-profile tyres, especially over bumps, but they feel really quite connected to the road and just as comfortable as the ones on the 18" wheels on the old car.

Those few complaints are tiny quibbles, though. In almost every way this car is a huge improvement on my 2022 model. Some of that is due to it having equipment that the older car didn't: Travel Assist, Park Assist Pro, HUD, HK sound system, ErgoActiv seats. Some of it is that they sorted out most of the annoyances with the infotainment. And the motor is noticeably more efficient, the battery is capacious, motor is super-powerful. And with all this tech (that I'm loving), my wife is none the wiser: she's convinced that it's exactly the same car as the one we traded in (except for the annoying lights projecting on the windscreen!). That's because she never used ACC, doesn't have a lead foot, and only listens to the radio in the car. She did notice and appreciate the new seats, which are much more comfortable, and likes the extra range.

I was curious to know if CarPlay was any quicker. I can still be out of my park and halfway down the road before it starts up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,237 ✭✭✭sk8board

the profile setting is saying it’s still in sport, but the drive settings are actually reset to Comfort settings.

    From the ID3 manual:

And the radio controls on the dash are now backlit?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Zurbaran

Is it just me that prefers the look of non gtx cars when it comes to the aero intakes at the front on each side of the normal id3 facelift? They look better to me than having more lights and do actually serve a purpose.

You're not alone. I prefer the ordinary ID.3 looks. But the value proposition on the GTX cannot be ignored.
