An Irish version of Talksport?

It was there last season too. It seems to only switch to Irish presentation when the Premier League games are on and they use world commentary even if Talksport UK have the same game on with UK commentary. Often hear messages sent in from listeners in Africa and so on.

Interesting that Premiership on both Talk Sport and Radio Five Live are available and no longer affected by rights issues in ROI..

Bumping this as it has relevance due to ONICs recent announcement about the launch of Talksport Ireland. So will it just be confined to DAB and apps or will it appear on the radio, MW or FM?

It could not be put on FM permanently unless there was a competition for a license. It could run on a temporary license, though, for a maximum of 30 days in a year if they looked for it. MW would be extremely unlikely as there would have to be a competition for a license that included MW. That is the least likely scenario of all of these. Spirit Radio is the only licensed Irish station left with MW options.

Edit: I just saw the post by @Glaceon before mine. MW is more or less dead in the water as regards options for licensed stations.

I find the UK Talksport a tough listen.

It's too laddish, "alright mate" for me.

And the incessant gambling ads, and features.

And incredibly repetitive. If there's a bad decision by a ref or var in an epl game it can be talked about on nearly every show for most of the week.

I could just imagine an Irish version of it. Talking about gaa games all week!

I just listen for the football commentary, couldn’t listen to the rest of it, too many adverts and can’t stand that Hawksbee show in the afternoons, it’s a real white van man’s type of station!

A full Irish version could perhaps be sponsored by "Chadwicks - its where the trade goes"

or "forget Puka Pies, try our fresh Blaa's"!

There is a Scottish version of Talksport, so why shouldn't there be an Irish Talksport at some point. Possibly a good point to start with would be DAB+.

I think they used to have an opt-out for a phone-in show years ago, but the schedule now seems to be just TalkSport, presumably with ads aimed at Scottish listeners.
