Its too late to pay back those early years. But you can pay back from 2006 to 2023. Usually you can only pay back the last 6 years. This will again be the case going forward from 5th April this year. So yes, pay back annually going forward till you are 67

You can only top up back to 2006, anything before that is off the table to top up

Thanks, that explains it and reassures me that I've now paid back all the years I possibly can and I just need to make sure I top up anually to max out the UK state pension.

Would it matter if you made the bank transfer to HMRC from a relatives bank account? i used my brothers Revolut as the fees would be less than my BOI/AIB. i used the right 13 digit reference. starting to worry now that there is some rule that it must come from a bank account in persons name.

Stuck in the CF83 form online this week. Can anyone confirm that this week's deadline is for the submission only and back payment of previous years can be made once HMRC review and return update on my form submission? I have been assigned class 3 when I meet requirements for class 2 (and summarized reasons why I believe I'm class 2 on form) - is it standard to be classed as class 3 prior to HMRC review of form details?

Yes class 3 is the default. Yes payback can be made at a later stage once application is in.

did the same about 4 weeks ago and haven’t heard anything. Hoping to get moved from class 3 to 2.

I filled out the CF83 form about a month ago or more. Can anyone tell me the email they send you once the form is completed? I have the email from them saying "HMRC has received your request to pay voluntary contributions" and that they will write back to me. Is that the correct email they send you once the CF83 email is completed?

I never received any email like that. I applied by snail mail initially then later through the HMRC website, but have heard nothing back yet.

Have never received an email from HMRC,must be a new thing. The only exception is when setting up a gov.uk account which I did well after sending the CF83 form.

It should be in the communication section of the HMRC app under receipt tracker.

After I sent online form I received an email with reference number. I hope that’s enough.

Yeah that's what I received. Hopefully it's good to go as the deadline is tomorrow.

No, nothing there. It says if I applied on line it should show within a few hours (which it doesn't), and if I apply by post which I also did then it should show in a few days (which it doesn't). Bit worried now.

I got the same message. But when I clicked on the form again it said I have already applied. I think as long as we have an email with a reference number is fine.

Think you are right. Checked back thru my own emails and I got a receipt and a reference number acrew weeks ago acknowledging my application. Gov.uk says I should hear back by September 27th. At least I am in! Thank you for taking the time to reply to me 😊

Was on hold today for a hour and 10 minutes to see if my payment have been allocated to the year's i requested.

I made payments of class 2 in November/ January/ March was then told class 2 payments have been allocated to the year's I requested 2006/7/8, he then said if you go online you can check your payments made, I said I have checked on line all years are showing class 3 and no payments, he then checked and apologised and said your right, the updates on line will take longer but will be updated eventually.

I'm just happy he confirm all my payments have been allocated, I will make one or two payments every year now till I have the full 35 years.

He then said is there anything else I could help you with I said yes can you change the tune when you are on hold because it stays in my head for days.

Can someone who's paid advise where to send payment

Is this page the correct one - though how do I say which years to allocate the money to?

Pay voluntary Class 2 National Insurance contributions if you do not pay through Self Assessment: Make an online or telephone bank transfer - GOV.UK

But then there is a link to this page that has no payment info

Guidance on Social Security abroad: NI38 - GOV.UK

The site is a nightmare to navigate

Not a great picture but this is what you should find online, I used Bank of Ireland on line to make payments , in the notes you can add with payment I put down what years I wanted payments allocated to .

I didn't get any of that info on my letter, just says to go search the site for the payment info which is a maze of links with no bank info bar the link above I posted which I'm not sure is the correct one.

Link in your photo gives no info - may have to give them a call next week

    Hmmm, catch there is

You can pay from an overseas account if you live or work abroad temporarily

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭Gorteen

It shouldn't be a problem. I paid for Mrs Gorteen from my individual account and it went through fine!

Revolut seems like the simple solution here, that will be my plan anyway to pay from the sterling account on my Revolut

Anyone know who in Sligo is charging people e650 to do their paperwork for the UK pension. Some rip off.The person calls them "my man" ffs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Widows Son

How is it a rip off??? He's not holding a gun to their head... Some people are unable to do this themselves... He provides a service and charges for it. Did he quote you €650? I believe it is considerably less than that. By that definition, paying for a train or a bus is a rip off, because you can walk for free.... Unless you can't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,687 ✭✭✭beachhead

No way should it cost e650. I definitely wouldn't pay that. This joker hasn't even mentioned CF83 and he is taking money from people.

A bus or train has f to with pensions
