That's actually impressive parking for the BMW, only one wheel over the line 😂

They were no doubt on important business befitting a BMW driver and as such couldn't afford the time to park further away

Legislation in place a long time making it illegal to park in a designated charging place whilst not charging

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

Is the legislation applicable the same as disabled spaces making it enforceable on private parking spaces that are accessible to the public such as a supermarket grounds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,353 ✭✭✭zg3409

Legalisation only applies to public streets and car parts typically enforced by parking warden or Gardai.

Personally I prefer them as far from the door as possible. They really need a big no parking sign, with a small except for actively charging small sign underneath along with a tow away sign with a phone number to ring. Cars in blanch shopping centre were regularly clamped for blocking charging bays, including EVs, but then they decided to stop enforcing it due to "complaints".

    bmw stigma detected!

Would you trigger if they attached picture of a Yaris that was on this space before bmw?

Agreed with comment above, chargers should be on the far side near recycle banks etc.

People often park at the front on disabled spaces if they are only there for a minute I see it all the time .

As I see it people get rightly worked up, especially those who have a disability or are aware of how impactful a disability can be on quality of life, when they see others inappropriately using disabled spaces. However, in my experience relatives of disabled people are just as likely to abuse the blue badge or disabled spaces as anyone else. The best I saw recently was a middle aged man with his blue badge proudly displayed parking in the 2nd closest to the door disabled spot at a Lidl car park, hop out of the car and walk off at pace across the car park to an adjoining store. The ultimate in fcukery IMO.

So of course people, not limited to BMW drivers, will inappropriately use EV charging spaces if located next to entrances. Human nature will trump over social graces

The issue will locating them in more remote locations is that it will negatively impact on disabled EV drivers

Not all disabilities are visible, and not all are visible 100% of the time either.

We have a blue badge in the family (mrs elm) and you could make that comment about her too. Late 30's and looks like she's walking fine from the car to the shop. Yet inside her head depending on how the day is, she's likely looking for where to lean if she starts to feel faint, to avoid passing out and collapsing onto the road or path. POTS/Dysautonomia.

A short simple and polite reply to you to suggest that you don't judge what you don't know, and have no experience or context for.

I heard a comedian comment on everyone watching a car parking in a disabled space. Everyone is watching to see if the driver has a disability. The comedian suggested everyone was expecting the car door to open and the person to fall down and drag themselves by the fingernails along the ground. That said I do know if people who abuse the badge when they are not collecting nor have onboard the person the badge was issued to.

Anyone abusing a blue badge should have it taken off them, no excuses for that.

My own 85 year old Aunt has encouraged me on multiple occasions to apply for a blue badge for 84 year old mother who would qualify no problem. As she has pointed out my mother doesn't drive so it would be very handy for myself to park in those handy disabled spots whenever I wanted.

You can atack my ignorance of the issue all you want but whether you want to admit it or not there is plenty abuse of disabled parking spaces and blue badges

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,184 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

There is for sure abuse going on. It should be stamped out ASAP.

But it's not your or my or any other private individual's job to police whether you deem someone worthy of a blue badge.

The only attack I made was on the judging of whether someone is abusing or someone deserves a badge. It's not for you to do that. If you suspect abuse, report it to AGS and also to the issuer of the blue badge. They are all registered so it would be pretty easy for the DDAI (or other equivalent body that is qualified to issue a blue badge) to do their own investigation based on your report.

Anyone who has a badge and genuinely needs one would have no issue with someone reporting them and having the DDAI check the records etc. What I would have an issue with (and does happen) is someone challenging someone parking in a disabled bay with a blue badge just because they 'look ok' to them.

I'm well aware of abuse of disabled parking spaces and IMO someone parking in a disabled spot beside the door of one store and then heading off across the car park and onto another part of a retail park strongly suggests the person didn't need to monopolise a disabled parking space beside a store he wasn't even using.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,184 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Ok well then report them as I mentioned. DDAI and AGS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,286 ✭✭✭creedp

Probably should but tbh if I took the time to report every minor traffic transgression I witnessed I've have no time left in day for anything else.

Back on topic maybe if more people reported/challenged both ICE and EV drivers inappropriately blocking EV chargers it wouldn't be such a common occurrence

    I was in Dublin today and a random taxi rank I passed had 5 cars in it - 2 model3’s a model Y and 2 ID4’s.

All electric taxis is a perfect business model, so I can understand why, and it’s great to see.

But it made me wonder what % of Tesla and ID4 sales are taxi’s and not private sales?

For context, there’s 9-10,000 new Tesla 3/Y registered here since 2019 (beepbeep data), and coincidentally the very same number of ID4’s since 2021.

So that’s 18-20,000 sales, at most - might 2-4,000 of them be taxis?

I'd say it's on the lower end of the 2000 range

My own experience driving around Dublin is the ID.4 is the more popular option as a taxi than Tesla

Strangely I've seen more Model 3s as taxis than Model Y's

I get that the 3 came out first but you'd think the Y would be the preferred choice as a taxi

I absolutely agree that EV taxis make a lot of sense around Dublin and even probably for most towns and cities in Ireland

Hi, I know from Facebook pages and PlugShare that an EasyGO EV charger was installed at Lidl in Moycullen in Galway about a month ago or more.

Attached is a pic of my EasyGO app on my iPhone with all filters turned off. Moycullen not showing up - even when I zoom in closer etc.

Does it appear for others on the EasyGO app?

Reason for that is the ePSV Grant Scheme started in 2021 when only the Model 3 was available. The VW was a better choice due to availability at the time, dealers had tones of them sitting there. Tesla had the usual order now and play the lotto for a delivery date.

Now, the Model Y seems to be gaining traction in the taxi scene in my experience as the grant opens up early every year and the fact Free Now had a deal with tesla for a time to get them at a further slight discount.

The Model Y is absolutely a better choice for a taxi than the Model 3 but things like rear privacy glass as standard comes into it when your deciding what car to buy and how long you'll be off the road waiting to get it through the suitability. Model 3 comes with no rear privacy and the ID4 has the basic spec that doesn't have it either.

The trend I'm seeing in taxis is BYD Atto, EV6, Model Y, ID4 and a few BYD Seals creeping in there now. MG 5 still a common choice due to pure financial cost being a lot cheaper than the others.

yeah. Have all the filters like you have.
when I try on WiFi network at home, can’t see Moycullen, when I go on 5G network at my house, can’t see Moycullen.

Im now about 10 miles from my house on 5G and I can see Moycullen on it now. Strange.

Couldn't understand how both chargers were free on the app. Audi plugged in and not charging. So if you need a charger then tough. Parking is so hard to get in Dungarvan so it's easy to plug in and walk away.
