The simple reason they are using SIGNAL ( rather than an official allowed communication tech .. eg a scif - sensitive compartmented information facility ) is it auto deletes all convo streams in a set period ( set by user I think ) so there is no evidence of that group convo having happened. Im not sure its possible to get back a signal group convo once its deleted?

SO - I reckon its trump gov policy to use SIGNAL so there is no official documenting of such conversations which, apparently, is legal that there should be.

THIS is the big issue that they have got caught at in my view. keep no records, or as little as possible. I think I saw somewhere that this "strategy" is part of the project2025 "rule book".

    Nah, Trump would love that.

They should close all businesses, people should stay at home. Customs/immigration should hold them for a few hours and then let them wander the empty streets. Hotel staff should all call in "sick" too.

Sort of modern version of Nixon

NYT has a good article on the epic fuckup

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/03/25/us/signal-group-chat-text-annotations.html?unlocked_article_code=1.604.dLAX.tteXkp4nmdNH&smid=re-share

notice how the Trumpets no longer even bothering to deny Project2025 is not a thing now that they are directly implementing all parts of it

The use of Signal may be an issue, but it is not the issue. It is the lack of any controls, the lack of any checks. And the lack of any responsibility or even acknowledgment that anything was an issue is the problem.

The hearing yesterday, where Tulsi stonewalled the committee and couldn't even say if she was in the group or not. That she didn't know what was said but was certain whatever was said wasn't classified.

You have the POTUS seemingly completely fine with all of it.

That should be extremely worrying to anyone who is involved in the military, the CIA, etc. And it should be very concerning to other countries that currently share information with the US.

What always surprised me about the Mar-a-Lago documents was the complete lack of any cry out from the likes of the military that Trump had been so cavalier with their lives and their security. So it is not surprising that those around him act in the same manner

You've nailed the theme of the problem pretty well.

It's not as much the act (which in itself was pretty stupid), but the attitude of the people orbiting around Donnie that let it happen. They may have gotten themselves into government, but they do-not-care how it is supposed to be done. Chatting on Signal was likely easiest / handiest way to do this, instead of bothering to go to the West Wing's situation room to discuss in person like you are supposed to.

Futhermore, Donnie doesn't care in the slightest. Of course he doesn't, because he doesn't actually care how the country is run. He wanted the title of President and that's pretty much it. Vance, Hegesth & Co. are left to their own careless nitwitted devices when it came to all of this, and the result is clear to see. Donnie's White House 2.0, now with added Stupid for your enjoyment.

But you know, K.Harris was a horrible commie something-something…radical Lefties….something!

Oh and yes, a gentle reminder to our Centrist friends that yes we will be remembering all of this, and yes…we will remind you of it each and every time you try to frame Donnie or the GOP as another than incompitent extreemist blockheads.

Notice how Trump is full on attacking the media/messenger

And all of those going on about “checks and balances” and “freedom of speech” amendments and all that are very very noticeably quiet

It turns out they never cared about the constitution either

I'm wondering how long til they attack the journalist for releasing classified data.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 275 ✭✭Hodger

Some of Trumps team are being openly mocked and laughed at on russian state media.

I'm sure they thought they made an effort by not setting up a new iMessage chat

…but it wasn't classified, they said so. Or it was state secrets, somehow.

The Vance person has weighted in on the X machine in respomse to this person Taylor Budowich ( White House Deputy Chief of Staff and Cabinet Secretary ):

TBH guys, this will rumble on for a few days and some junior may get fired, that will be it .. maybe some other shiney silver bauble will be introduced that will out right distract the easily distractable US Media / All media. Trump is a master at this

Trump & Co have the ability to hang in there. They are in total control, cannot be chucked out ( other than a coup / revolution ).

So trump will just ride this out, why does he need to do anything else really. The US voters handed over absolute power to him

Apparently Speaker of the House Johnson has said that he is going to look at taking action against the Federal Courts System because of the judgements being issued which challenge what Trump is doing.

There's been several instances over the last couple of weeks where it is clear that people were sent to El Salvador who shouldn't have been and if anything, Judge Boesbergs actions have been shown to have been absolutely correct.

Now, in the same week as the War Plans on the Group Chat fiasco, the White House has told Boesberg they intend to invoke the Secrets Act to prevent disclosing their rational behind the deportation flights.

Bear in mind what we saw yesterday with the flat out denying there was classified information shared on the Group chat and today it is revealed that it absolutely was classified. This administration has shown itself 100% to not be trusted.

It is a sh*tshow on several levels.

Also I might add - we still dont know were they all using there own personal phones with signal. Inc Steven Witkoff who was in a Moscow hotel at the time when on this signal chat. Was he using the phones own DATA via Russian Cell towers or worse still was he using the hotels WIFI?

We should consider top level Israel phone hacking software called PEGASUS by a company called NSO:

    https://www.timesofisrael.com/at-least-30-phones-of-journalists-activists-hacked-in-jordan-with-israeli-tech/

"Once it has wormed its way on to your phone, without you noticing, it can turn it into a 24-hour surveillance device. It can copy messages you send or receive, harvest your photos and record your calls. It might secretly film you through your phone’s camera, or activate the microphone to record your conversations. It can potentially pinpoint where you are, where you’ve been, and who you’ve met."

YES and it is up for sale to all state actors apparently ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,783 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

And the thing about Pegasus is it's the only one we know of. There's no reason to expect that Russia, China and the US don't have their own applications that do the same thing. Hell, maybe even north Korea have something similar. They have some world class hackers.

    As i mentioned above:

Because Greenland isn't America and doesn't refuse entry to people just because they may have said something bad about them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,117 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

In my view I think it's better for the Danes to negotiate a price for Greenland rather than the US annexing it and the Danes negotiating after the fact.

And what would be your price if Donald decided he wanted to annex ireland, yaknow...so they could protect the Atlantic from Russians/Chinese ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,593 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

This is genuinely one of the most ridiculous ideas I've heard in a while, a native population being sold to the US is how you end up creating generational crises. Consider how the dividing up of Ireland went during the 20th century and the troubles that followed. Greenland overwhelmingly doesn't want to be part of the US and you think Denmark should sell on a people's sovereignty. Also let's remember how poorly the US is likely to treat a native population.…

I assume your Palestinian solution is to negotiate a deal to relocate the Palestinians to wherever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,487 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Aren't Russia no longer seen as a threat by Trump's America?

So who exactly is Greenland (or Ireland) being protected from?

MAGA spins so many lies they trip over themselves.

American Oversight has filed a lawsuit against Hegseth, Gabbard, Ratcliffe and others over Signal gate claiming they violated the federal records act. That case has just been assigned to a judge.

    The judge?………….. Judge James Bosesberg.

Yep, one and the same Judge who has already gotten under the skin of the MAGAt Administration.

What makes you think the 57,000 natives would be treated poorly? More like a lottery win for each of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,052 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

    Not everything is about money.

What makes you think Trump, or America, would treat them properly or that they would even live up to any deal Trump would sign? He has just reneged on the trade deal he signed with Mexico and Canada without a moment's thought.

He has just spent the last few weeks claiming Europe are freeloaders and Ukraine aren't thanking them enough. There are no indications that they would treat them as anything other than 2nd class citizens

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,032 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

What makes us think they'd be treated poorly? History.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,928 ✭✭✭thatsdaft

You been to Puerto Rico or USVI and hang out where the natives (whose votes don’t matter) are

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,117 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

They don't have resources like Greenland, it's highly strategic landmass and such a small population.

    It's a no brainer.

And they won't have the resources either if annexed by the US… it will just be treated as a colony and the resources used to enrich the 'homeland', or in this case, the cronies of Trump.

    It's a no brainer alright.
