I am just an ordinary Mayo GAA fan, but I would love if the Mayo supporters/ones that comment on here would just reflect on everything that is out there and come back and say how they now feel. Not about Tim O'Leary, but what they have read. Forget about Tim, forget about the County Board. Just how all this makes you feel. Sad, angry, disappointed, disillusioned, confused….

ah that’s a harsh take, I love how passionate they are about the game & in fairness to Enda, he watches an awful lot of football.

I would agree with the general point though that the less a player plays…the better they get. We find it hard to get players up front who can win their own ball .

100% agree about Enda, I wouldn't agree with some of what he says but I appreciate his massive love for the game

A 1 point win v Kildare for the women keeps us in with a slim chance of staying up. Need to win next week (away to Waterford) and hope Tyrone beat Kildare. Need a 14 point swing in score difference v Kildare also

I’d certainly be of the view that he’s very passionate about the game. Obviously I don’t agree with a lot of what he says either. I do find the constant negativity a bit boring but I suspect a lot of his views are such to generate interest rather than firmly held opinions.
that’s the thing about sport though - it’s not something we all have to agree on.

Diarmuid in squad. Still no sign of Durkan or Conroy which isn’t great

Info is hard to get but I heard Paddy had a bit of a setback recently. Nothing major apparently but not much detail.

Top of the league 🥳 ...right now

Not sure if that's good or bad tbh given our recent history with League finals 😬

Midfield is an absolute mess. Getting cleaned.

I told you ye would make the final. I didn`t think it would be against Kerry though.

So a league final against Kerry…better than relegation I suppose 🫤

What, you mean the 2 wins 1 loss in their last three finals?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,051 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

And I told you we'd do our best to self destruct, which we very nearly did. Between the penalty and the shot that rattled the crossbar, we're fairly fortunate not to be looking at Division 2 football next year!

Well more our championship performance after doing well in the league 🫤

Has to be a first, to top the league stage with a negative points difference.

Wouldn't be too hopeful going into the final, it might be a bit of a wake-up call.

Not sure what they were doing taking off O'Shea , especially when it seemed certain that Flynn wouldn't last the match. Was surprised to see him coming out for the second half. We really did get cleaned on the kickouts today.

    we almost outdid ourselves today

Absolutely cleaned out on all kickouts second half

    Worrying

Hard to know how to view today's performance. Some positive performances from Carney and Irwin. Irwin in particular looks like he could add tha extra scoring threat along with Neary that we need to take the pressure off ROD.

It looks like Donegal didnt want to win it though based on team selection and half hearted phases of play. I don't believe that the penalty was taken with any conviction. The kicker looked worried that he'd have to face mcguinness afterwards if it won it for them. Some Mayo players are out of their depth at this level though. Darren McHale occasionally has nice touches and assists but he missed some very kickable scores for someone looking to push for a place.

When Donegal intensified the defensive blanket we struggled to break it down. It's still a big issue for us. Plenty to work on.

Definitely worrying. Get the sense it could be a one-sided final. We nearly let it slip against a half-baked Donegal team who didn't look like they really wanted to win. If Donegal had played something closer to their championship 15, we would have been well beat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,051 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

The first half, against a strong wind was fairly decent, I thought. Seemed as if we managed it fairly well as well, in the sense that we kept ball rather than giving it back to them with that wind. A very well worked goal, not the type of goal we get too often.

Second half was very poor and we were fortunate RO'D stepped up with a couple of big 2 pointers.

I'm not sure Irwin or Neary are going to take too much of the pressure off RO'D. That'll fall on the likes of Ruane, Carney, and Flynn I think.

Would agree with you on McHale, thought was poor. Lads like that really need to step up and take their chances.

I think getting to the league final should provide a little better preparation heading into the Championship. I know there are some naysayers who reckoned that the league final is a distraction. But it could be that a good tough game next weekend could add to the team. I guess it all depends on beating Sligo the following week. If Mayo can come through the Kerry match with a decent performance, and no new injuries, then I see it as a success in heading into the Championship. I don't expect Mayo to win the All-Ireland this year. But it would be nice to get back to winning Connacht again. Especially if they meet Galway in the final. Delighted for Hession and Carney today. Hopefully both can trump on that form going forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭Westernview

First half was ok alright but again I think Donegal only showed a bit of urgency in the second half.

Well Irwin and Neary seem like our best forward additions. Irwin has a sweet right foot and Neary has pace to beat a defender. Any discussions on the likes of Reape and Regan returning should really be over now.

Hopefully Regan and Irwin will both start the league final so that we can see how they fare against an in form Kerry in Croker.

Neary has been a strange one. He scored that great goal and 1-2 in total against Armagh and hasn't started since despite being named. Darren McHale has had the last few starts instead and hasn't set the place alight. He might be lighting it up in training though.

It's a serious achievement to get to the league final considering the crack at the start of the league. I think this is a real bonus that they have made the final. They have nothing to be afraid off and I hope they have a real go at it…win, lose or draw.

Midfield is so important these days and we really struggled there for long parts of the 2nd half.

Even with a lot of 2nd string, I thought Donegal's forward movement was very good, they cut us open quite easily at times in the 2nd half.

McHugh was very good I thought
