Shocking error by Reape kicking a short ball to a Mayo fullback and 2 Kerrymen. Mayo were doing well up to that.

is this kit new? Don’t remember seeing it before

Thought the defence been excellent at times but your not going to win many matches without a midfield and when you keep passing to the opposition every time you have a promising attack.

Lucky not to be loosing by less. Kickouts poor and getting cleaned in midfield.

Kerry’s quick attacking is in stark contrast to Mayo’s laborious approach.

Bad mistake from Reape for the goal, absolutely braindead stuff. Mclaughlin poor as well, was directly responsible for at least 2 points.

Kerry's getting the ball inside much much quicker than us, we're a hard watch in this form

Massive 2nd half needed to even stay competitive

    Absolutely ridiculous
    Take the handy point
    They are well beatable
We are beating ourselves with stupidity

And having a player who can’t can’t play football starting again

McLoughlin the main culprit with misplaced passes. Hasn't the skillset for playing the top teams.

Kerrys superior kickpassing is once again showing up inadequacies in Mayo coaching systems. We are attacking slower because we can't kick long and accurate.

Two changes before game were wrong . Mchale and neary creative and attacking threat . Unlucky but also stupid mistakes and wides , which nearly always happens to us in finals in croker . But far from over !

Poor from ROD not to kick that last 2 pointer, would have given us a massive boost

That slow, lateral, aimless hand passing is tough to watch.

    Kerry playing far more direct.

AOS looking reasonably comfortable taking scores again too which is good

Kerry happy to let us play the ball across the D because they know we can't kick 2 pointers. H

    McLaughiiiinnnnn

First time all match he hasn't had a meltdown near the goal

McHale is nowhere near county standard.

    Getting wiped at midfield

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 742 ✭✭✭gigantic09

How did we get to a final, brutal here for the most part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Panrich

Turnovers under no pressure killed us especially when we couldn’t hold our own at midfield.

We don’t have the primary ball winners to live with the best teams. We also let ourselves down with very basic handling errors and our lateral over and back hand passing to no effect was in stark contrast to Kerry.

Mcstay and Rochford clueless. So slow in attack and then playing 6/7 midfielders and getting dominated at kick outs.. :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,010 ✭✭✭WesternZulu

We’re not going to get far in the championship if we keep playing a system tailored towards the old rules. We are slow and predictable.

Forwards seriously lacking big time as well with the exception of ROD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,581 ✭✭✭Westernview

They had to play midfielders to try and get possession. Would have been annihilated entirely with smaller forwards.

Management can't be blamed for players unable to move the ball forward quickly when they can't kick the ball long. Also can't be blamed for goalkeeping howlers or unforced handpass errors. We just haven't the players.

You won't win big games with a mediocre midfield. End of story.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭hugeorange

Watch as the knives come out again for Rochford and McStay. A lot of people in complete denial about the standard of the squad. Couldn't even count the number of basic skill errors I witnessed in that match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 howdo1992

they clearly being instructed to play it slow and methodically to get it to shooters in scoring zone. They have O’ Shea inside to kick it to but it never happens. Mcstay trying to do what Dublin did but game has moved on now.

On kick outs , you don’t need loads of big men if you have good tactics and strategy around it. Look at Kerry’s team not exactly giants.

    he was fairly lacking today

    In a big game

    Again

We are the very definition of insanity

It amazes me how blind people are to the calibre of player we have. Kerry lads ar a different level to us in basic skills. Trying to explain an inability to win primary possession as down to tactics makes no sense. There was plenty of high balls and Kerry cleaned us out.

Let's change the management and suddenly see the magical transformation to high fielding, long range point scoring and beautiful long kicks into the FF line.

Well that felt like an absolute waste of time and might have well as been a 20 points hammering. I felt Kerry were there for the taking once Mayo got it back to 3, but unfortunately we didn't (and don't ) have the quality to take advantage.

I know he scored a fantastic goal but Eoin McLaughlin does not have the skillset required for inter county football. Our kickouts today were so slow from the restart and we were cleaned at midfield. Jordan Flynn appears to be allowed to kick wides for fun and his position should be most under threat if DOC comes back in.

The amount of basic handling errors today by Mayo was frustrating. Plenty of effort and application today though, Hession looks back to his best .

If any coaching is to blame it's whatever is going on at underage. You're not going to teach a 25/26 year old the basic skill of fielding a ball if he doesn't know how to do it already. Jim Gavin would struggle with this squad tbh.
