Very sad news considering he still had so many irons in the fire so to speak.

An absolute gent, who started with close to nothing and did it all - it is movie stuff. Can you imagine Eddie and his Jordan team in this era of drive to survive?

Like many others have said I did not appreciate what I was witnessing back then, I loved every minute of it and was proud of that team through the lows and highs - and can put my love for F1 down to him and his team. I very much doubt we will ever see an Irish team again.

    Box box Eddie and R.I.P.

So am I now, I don't know what went wrong.

    Here it is anyway.

Everyone at Scuderia Ferrari HP is saddened to hear of the passing of Eddie Jordan. Whether as a team boss or a TV pundit he brought so much life and colour to Formula 1. Behind the charisma, the smile and the jokes he was an astute businessman and a fearsome competitor.

Sunday mornings in the 90's were all about F1 for me, watching out for those iconic yellow cars of Jordan.

    🙈🙉🙊

Shocked and saddened at the news.

Whilst i was an F1 fan from as early as i can remember watching the likes of Piquet, Watson, Lauda and De Angelus, the arrival of Jordan brought it to another level, seeing the 'Ireland' logo on an F1 car was such a sense of pride, only bettered by hearing Amhran na bhFiann played after their victories.

For a long time could list off all their drivers, off the top of my head De Cesaris, Gachot, both Schumachers, Moreno, Zanardi, Barrichello, Hill, Fisichella, Frentzen, and of course Irvine. Please add any i've forgotten.

He's up there with Fr. Ted in making being Irish something not to be ashamed of.

    RIP Eddie.

    RIP Eddie.

Most interesting fact I learned today was that when he was looking for DHL to sponsor his F1 team they were reluctant because he had a deal signed with Benson & Hedges that meant the car had to be primarily yellow and red which meant they couldn't change the colour to white and red to reflect the DHL brand at the time. He instead talked DHL around in to changing their global branding to yellow and red which is what you see today, absolute genius.

He only got to hear Amhran na bhFiann after 2 of Jordans 4 wins. Belgium 98 they played God save the queen (rage) and then the last win was only awarded after a few days because they miscalculated the winner, so the podium had Kimi on top step, not Fisi

He mentioned it on one of the ffs podcasts last year I think.

I remember being raging when they played the wrong anthem after Jordans first win. if I remember right, Eddie shortly after explained that they played the wrong one and he wasn't happy about it.

    It didn't happen again.

RIP Eddie, really had an interesting and colourful life, certainly lived life to the full. Truly amazing his achievements in getting a team into F1 and keeping it there so long and actually being competitive too. Remarkable man and came across a decent guy

Any info on his funeral yet?

Did he still have a house in Ireland? I know he spent most of his time between Monaco and South Africa, but you'd like to think he'd be buried back home?

I'm devastated about the loss of Eddie Jordan.

The wins that this man achieved with the Jordan F1 team were unforgettable for Irish F1 fans. He accomplished something that was unheard of from an Irish team's perspective in the world of motorsport. He had great drivers, he had great wins and he also had a great warmth & personality to others that will never be matched when going off the F1 race track. What a guy. What a legend. RIP Eddie Jordan. You will be greatly missed!!!

It wasn't the wrong one as such. They played the British one for Hill, as is normal. But they didn't have Amhrán na bhFiann to hand for the winning constructor.

RIP, Eddie. Thanks for all the memories.

Sorry, just to clarify, they were NOT wrong to play the British anthem after Spa 98 as Damon Hill was a British competitor. The anthem was for him. Where they messed up was not having Amhrán na bhFiann AFTER the British anthem. As far as I'm aware they didn't play God save the Queen after either of Frentzens victories and Fischellas victory wasn't recognised until the next race.

    This too shall pass.

I wonder if Aston in particular will do anything to remember ej? I did see this suggestion by Tommy from P1 podcast:

Although I'd prefer a Jordan 198 livery instead. Buzzin hornets.

The Chain was played out at the end of their Nations League match coverage on RTÉ2. Fair play to you lads.

Jordan owned his own F1 team in his early 40s, that's some going.

I'm going to get destroyed for this now, but I never really got the Irish element of the Jordan team.

Yes the owner was Irish and technically the team raced under an Irish license, but that was it.

It's main facility where all the engineering expertise and testing was done was in the UK.

The brains of the operation was in the UK.

To me they were just another UK based F1 outfit.

I think the Irish support for them came from the same pre Celtic Tiger lack of confidence mentality that we had back then.

Also, for all his success in getting to F1 and staying there as long as he did, he messed up losing Michael Schumacher because he didn't have a written contract and years later he screwed up bringing Vodafone to court over another agreement that was not written down.

Yep that was it, they didn't have to hand, Eddie made sure they had it subsequently

Would have preferred Fatboy Slim - Right Here Right Now but maybe there's a rights issue.

    This too shall pass.

What man Im old enough remember Derek Daly and David Kennedy racing. And then to see Eddie arrive on the scene with an Irish Team was an amazing achievement. I remember watching Peter Collins on RTE covering the Races I must say the day they won in Belgium was one of my all time Sporting Moments. That an Irish team could beat Ferrari, Williams, Mercedes and Mc Laren who would have believed it. In 1998 they finished 4th in the Constructers Championship. Eddie gave us some memorable Sundays

Such a pity that Micheal Schumacher had the accident he had all them years ago and is still not better. Would have loved to hear what Micheal would have said about Eddie. Maybe someday.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

It would be really interesting to hear what he'd say , but, unfortunately, that's never going to happen, really tragic what happened to Schumacher, a real shame how his life was effectively ended in that accident, alive, but, not really there, hopefully he's not aware of his situation as that would be a living hell.

Between EJ and Gary Anderson, I think there was a form of pride in racing under the tricolour. It helped them stand out. That they were based in England and not Ireland is probably more to do with Ireland not having a circuit suitable for F1 cars.

    Anyhow, speaking of Gary Anderson...

You'd have more luck developing a rally car than an F1 car if you tried testing around Mondello. :pac:

Has there been any indication from the family about the funeral plans? Are they going to cremate/bury him in South Africa or bring him home to Dublin?

    This too shall pass.
