Not so much into motorsport (bar a brief interest in the mid 90's (Viellneuve/Hakinen etc) , but met Eddie in Dublin Airport about 12-18 months ago and had a brief chat to him about our shared passion which was sailing.

He was a very likeable man.

    RIP.

RIP, a fantastic entrepreneur and a real gentleman. Lucky to have met him many years ago at a GP at the height of Jordan’s fantastic success

In spite of knowing he had been dealing with serious illness last year, it seemed like he was on the mend and working at full tilt, so I'm properly shocked to hear the news.

RIP Eddie, risk taker, blagger and Irish legend 💚

Being lucky enough to have been there at Spa '98, this I how I shall remember the great man.

He gave us the most beautiful F1 car of all time.

A true Irish character, thanks for the memories EJ.

That’s really sad. I knew he was fighting advanced cancer but up until a few weeks ago he seemed like he was doing well. In some ways I wish I was old enough to have been watching F1 in the 90s so I could have had an Irish team to shout for. RIP.

Genuinely sad news that.😔 What a great life he lived. RIP Eddie.

This is sad news. An absolute legend in F1 on so many levels and he seemed like someone you’d go for pints with.

    Rest in Peace.

RIP Eddie. Achieved amazing success as one of the last true privateers and a real legend of the paddock off the track. I attended a fair few of the post-race Silverstone concerts back in the day where he was always the life and soul of the event.

    RIP

Didnt know much about him, little bit before my time in the F1 scene. Saw more of him when he did the Top Gear appearances.

Also surprised to hear he passed away in Cape Town, didnt know he lived here.

Very sad news. I was a big Jordan F1 fan as a kid, but it's really only in hindsight that the size of those accomplishments are really apparent — a bootstrapped little F1 team challenging the top echelons of the sport. I would love to see Aston Martin do a tribute livery this year to their heritage.

Awful news. One of the great characters of F1 and he gave some legendary drivers their first shot in F1. He'll be missed.

Very interesting and colourful life. May he rest in peace.

Sad news. The late 90s was a glorious period for Irish F1 fans, thanks to him. RIP

That really is sad to hear today. I followed Jordan from about 1994 onwards and tuned in to every race weekend hoping they would get any sort of points but usually watching those (Peugeot) engines blowing up regularly before they starting finding success.

I was at the 1999 Australian Grand Prix. Eddie Irvine's first win with the Jordan's second and third. Under the podium in Melbourne with a load of Irish fans going mental is something I will always remember.

What a man. Larger than life character and will be truly missed.

Very sad news, effected me more than I thought it would.

It was Eddie's team that got me interested in F1 in the 90s. As others have said, the scale of their success was not appreciated by me at the time.

Never knew him, but hearing people who did speak so highly of him even before his death reflects the kind of man he was. RIP

Nice tribute on the F1 YouTube channel

Haven't followed F1 since the mid 2000s. Only ever watched it to see how Eddie and the Jordan team got on. A great Irish man and a huge loss R.I.P.

All the F1 teams put a post on their social media paying tribute to Eddie, which shows how much he was respected.

Ferrari didn't do a single mention, and it's actually annoyed me weirdly

I heard the interview with him on talksport a few weeks ago. He was just out of chemo then and he was apologising for not being completely coherent. RIP.

This one hurts. Spa 1998 was just glorious, seeing Eddie dance down the pit lane after they won, it was just brilliant.

I was die hard Ferrari and Schumacher back then, but like most I always wanted the yellow cars to be up there. 1999 was quite special at times. I was lucky enough to have a Jordan F1 bag as well for school with the hornet on it, still wish I had that.

Eddie was a real character, and seeing him on his podcast with DC, I could sense optimism and was wishing him well.

A big reason I love F1 is because there was an Irish team banging wheels with the big boys. That was because of Eddie.

    May he rest in peace.

Like many others, he was one of the main reasons for getting interested in F1 all those years ago. From hanging my yellow Jordan flag on the balcony when on holidays with the lads to relaxing on the couch and watching it for hours at the weekend. He was a real character and a great loss.

Singing, "Eddie Irvine's Irish, Eddie Irvine's Irish, tra-la-la..." on repeat after they played God Save the Queen. The tifosi were bewildered by us that day. Running beside the track to get to the podium while the drivers were on their in-lap, chaos.

    RIP Eddie

Never meet the man read his Autobiography. A true Irish Chancer that took risks and got there against all the odds.
Got me into F1 and some really great Sundays routing for the Jordan team.

Outspoken , charismatic , driven and unearthed some amazing drivers.

    A great F1 legend .

And will always remember the green 7up livery with the Shamrocks on.

    RIP Eddie.
