Looks like John Small is not likely to come back for Dublin.

Personally the jury is still very much out on O'Donnell & Lahiff. But either Dessie is seeing something in training or there's no one else putting their hand up for selection. I hope its the former, as the latter would be very concerning.

Looks like we will be up against it tonight looking at the team sheets.Fairly obvious we will need our best side out for the later stages of the champo providing we get there. With only two league games left ,not sure if we can make the final it really leaves no time for anyone to come on the scene that isn't already on the panel .Thought Dessie might have tried something different with EOD as can't see him having much impact in his current role going on his performances to date.Dessie must be seeing something hopefully it works out for all concerned.

I was wondering whether the rule tweaks would suit Dublin more than Galway. Walsh less chance of “handier” two pointers.
Looking at the Galway bench that bull Comer could cause some damage if brought on late.

I think Dublin have to come out flying not like that craic up in Armagh.

O'Donnell won't be starting tonight. Still have a couple lads to come back in midfield so don't think Lahiff will be starting come championship.

Dessie definitely seems to like a unit at 14. Of some description.. Dublin more assured with Cluxton at back even though was shaky kick outs at start.

What happened with the Galway goal?. Looked like he wasn't going to give it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,571 ✭✭✭rolling boh

No need for me to say anything about the contribution Stevo has made to us but I feel it's hard on the other lads that he still comes into the team.Happy with the win and to stay up maybe slightly fortunate in that Galway missed a pile of scores but that's their problem .

I agree with half of that. Because Comerford hasn’t been great. Was very dodgy in previous games. Cluxton still best dublin keeper even at this stage. Up to the other keepers to cut out silly stuff/consistency to take the no1 spot from him.

Things aren't great when our best keeper will be 43 this year ,personally I don't think either David or Evan have really let us down ,they will never be as good as Stevo but it must be pretty demoralising for them to train away and then just get sidelined for Stevo .Confidence must be a bit lower as a result so we have no succession plan it seems .

Cluxton was poor enough last night as well. It's not like he's level's above the other lads right now.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

At the start he was then settled into it. Still seemed more assured than Comerford. Even though Cluxton is nowhere near the player he once was.
Mad how Cluxton dominated for so long. And still is.
I just checked there to make sure John O’Leary did 17 years. Paddy Cullen did 13 years. Davy Byrne "only" did 7 years just prior to Cluxton's emergence.

I was thinking a fella that tried to play pro-soccer but didn’t make it for whatever reason would be worth trying.

I know Shane Supple was tried years ago (Cluxton kept him out) but someone like a Supple mould would surely find intercounty football handy enough?

Even that mad Rossies goalie Cake Curran played for Athlone town and it didn’t do him any harm.

All credit to him for lasting so long. It's a level of dedication few people have. Last night was really the first time I've watched him and thought he's starting to move like a 43 year old. He wasn't getting down to save shots like he used to.

I was thinking that myself when will the time come when Cluxton no longer has that keeper "spring" in the legs. That used to be one of his main qualities even as a young fella, before he developed the sweeper keeper stuff.

It would be awful to see Cluxton end his Dublin career having a terrible game. That is the type of thing that is at the back of my mind.

I was talking to a fella from "Pobal Parnell" he said that Cluxton as a real low percentage of body fat, so he keeps himself in great nick all the same.

It is an odd "problem" to have at what point do you put a new keeper in stick with him and call him no1? There is no other keeper around that comes near to the experience Cluxton has. But if you don't give another keeper a run he won't get any experience.

And is Cluxton the type of fella that would hang around as a panel member to tutor the younger keepers? I am not so sure. Maybe it is time to give him a role as a selector?

Good win last night. Chance we could make a league final. Especially if Donegal have decided to forfeit getting to the final. Would be a nice day out to lift some silverware. A league Div 1 title is not to be sniffed at.

I kind of thought Stevo would hang in there for an emergency situation. As long as he is around it looks like he will start and that is where I have reservations. It would be very difficult for Dessie I presume to say to him that he is not going to start .I too would hate to see him finish on a bum note .

Nice win and another good day out and experience for younger lads, especially finding themselves 1 on 1 against the likes of Comer and Walsh in wide open spaces of Croker. Definitely it looks like we are much more suited to the new rules on big pitches where other teams can’t swarm you as much.

I would like to get the extra game a final spot would give us and wouldn't mind Galway as I think they left a lot of scores behind the other night so would like to see if anything changes with another game against them .A fully fit Comer would be a task for any of our defenders to take on ,not to mention Shane Walsh .

Yes Galway really left some scores out there. Another day they'd easily have another 2-5 on the board. It was not down to great defending on ourbehalf. Joyce said he whipped Finnerty and Walsh off as they left 2-10 out there between them. He wasn't far wrong. If the sides meet again in final i doubt Galway will be as profligate in front of goals. A sharper forward line would have buried us on Saturday.

Dublin conclude their league campaign with a hammering of Laois in O Moore Park. 2-21 v 0-13. So disappointing that two late red cards which led to narrow losses cost us our place in next years 1A and a league final place.

Sheridan starting in goal. Hope he minds the house, and doesn’t think of doing a “Morgan”.

Very poor effort from Dublin wing back only dropping into Morgans hands from an easy position. Costelloe missed couple handy chances start of match hasnt done anything since. Dublin faded away after Cons goal. Tyrone have got on top with lots good scores. Big deficit to maje up in second half.

Scully hears the hooter and just boots the ball without much thought and we end up conceding a point

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Supposedly wind strong first with Tyrone. Hopefully Dublin completes in the second half. That nearly happened in Armagh.

Tyrone need this more than Dublin, hopefully the wind is decisive for Dublin in the 2nd half...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Definately a strong breeze but 15 mins into the half there was npthing in it. Roll on another 20 mins and we go in 10 behind. Its still possible but a lot of graft needed now and some two pointers or goals.

Another poor first half mid field poor making it even harder for the keeper .Strong wind whether its worth ten points is doubtful as the amount of basic errors we are making means a defeat looks likely.
