Couldn't see him going back to hurlers this year, maybe next year.

Refs need to be wired up to explain their decisions some of the stuff tonight was bizarre calls, also if they intend to stick with the 20s kick outs there needs to be an official clock on display. some bad misses in the 2nd half but the best team won. Should keep our Div 1 position either way. after that don't think too many are bothered about a league final.

    Just back from-Armagh -

What kinda first half was that from Dublin let Armagh in time and again?

No pace in the play nothing. Second half better but still left at least 8 points behind in the second half. Wind was no excuse this time. There was some really bad wides. Not even close Tyrell hit some particularly bad ones second half when Diblin looked like they could get back into the match.

Again, Dublin need to really work getting the long shooters in positions for 2 pointers. Con and Kilkenny are the players most capable I think.

Anyway credit to Armagh. Must be the best I have seen them play for a long time. Especially in first half. Not the usual dour McGeeney stuff. Neutrals would have enjoyed it. Even Armagh fans seemed surprised.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Can someone explain what happened around 65 minutes. It was like the linesman thought Dublin had only 2 back and ref blew it up and seemed to give the signal for it but Dublin players pointing out that there’s 3 miles back there. Wasn’t a case of someone just snuck over the line. They were miles back. He ended up giving a free to Armagh right on halfway.

20 second kick off was played as I think that’s 20 seconds or don’t stop on your kick out. Needs an official timing.

No complaints on who was the better team. Only complaint I’d have is not a police officer to head get traffic out the town

I think 2 referees is essential to make this work.

Another disappointing narrow defeat for pur hurlers today. Similiar to our home loss to Offaly when we had Conor Burke sent off late on while in a good position we had another player sent off late on today and were 5 points up at one stage but pipped at the post again. Four points thrown away. O Ceallaghain will be livid that it has happened again.

Great to see a pissed off Dessie Farrell in a post match interview. That means he will have rattled into them. Hopefully will mean improved performance v Galway.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

The standard of refereeing in truly a sight to behold. We've had a lad sent of in both of our last 2 games, probably costing us a result in both. Yet Tony Kelly slapped a lad in the face with his hurl yesterday and only a yellow. Different rules for different teams

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

True, but I suppose it wouldn't do Dublin hurling much harm if they stayed in div1B for another year to develop a new side. Div1A is a different level entirely and Dublin would only end up getting a few creasings I would say.

For sure and it's no bad thing as we aren't exactly lighting things up in 1b either. The main point though is we seem to be held to a different set of rules to the teams we are playing. Waterford got a fierce number of very soft frees yesterday when our defenders were just battling for the ball. Yet at the other end Waterford defenders were flying into our lads and it was play on. Honestly, refereeing at all levels of the game is starting to turn me off the sport.

Definately cost us the four points. Should be sitting pretty on top and into 1A for next year. I saw Conor Burkes red card and looked fully deserved no need for it when we were in full control going down the stretch. Havent seen yestetdays red yet but leading by 5 away to Waterford and then fall away after a late red is very disappointing. Makings of a good team would have been beneficial to get promoted to 1A imo. Manager O Ceallachain will need to stamp out this costly indiscipline it has akready messed up the league we cannot see a repeqt in the Leinster championship.

Both reds looked fairly clear cut to me being honest. Poor discipline for sure. The lack of consistency in the league would have you pulling your hair out though.

I'm also not sold about 1a being good for this team. We'd be eaten alive by Limerick, Clare, Cork. Think another go at 1b could be beneficial.

Clare and Wexford in 1B more than likely next year. I fancy Dublin to get top 3 in Leinster this year.

Enjoyed the trip up to Armagh.

Bugler was really missed. He injects pace and quick thinking and angles to our attacks. Kilkenny slows the game down, turns back. The game has changed and we need more Bugler, less Kilkenny. Kilkenny should no longer be a playmaker, should be moved up top.

Cluxton, Murchan, Gannon, McGinnis, Madden, Bugler, Costello, Basquel should all start in Championship, meaning we were missing more than half the team. That also showed, yet I wasn't downhearted.

We gave a lot away, from 3v3 infringements to slow kickouts, we made a rod for ourselves. There were also some bizarre refereeing decisions in there. All of that will improve come Championship time as we (and the refs) adjust to the new rules.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Any news on Lee Gannon's injury. At first word was could be gone for season again. Lets hope nowhere near as bad as that. He's a great bit of stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,640 ✭✭✭✭JRant

The 3v3s and kick out infringements were just awful calls by the ref, who was making it up as he went along

Don't think Kilkenny would same impact playing in FF. Still the main man to win ball and the breaks around the middle. Wouldn't have beaten Kerry without him. Agree does slow down the play at times.

I think having him take the pace out of a game at times is good thing with the new rules. It's gives the players some time to recover, especially with the knockout timer.

I watched back on the game against Armagh yesterday at pace but it seems the 3 vs 3 call was wrong but linesman I assume missed someone as it wasn’t a case of someone hanging on the halfway line but miles back. Could be a costly mistake in the summer. Can’t see Stephen running up and down the field. That’s something he’s never done for Dublin ever from what I can remember. Will he start doing that?

Costelloe scored what looked like a fantastic point dummying two defenders and sailing it over with his left foot. Soon after the score was disallowed. The umpires looked to be over ruled by the linesman. Doesn't happen very much. That cancellation of the score seemed to put a halt to Dublins revival. A real momentum buster. Good to see Costelloe back all the same. Paddy Small should get bit game time next couple games to bolster our attacking options.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Come championship its still going to be a very experienced starting forward line. There is a lot of miles on the clock, also. Something like

    Bugler, Kilkenny, Scully

    Basquel, Con, Costelloe

We've always had very strong replacements up front to come on and help win matches. Options not as good anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,195 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

Lorcan O'Dell has been an effective substitute during this League campaign.

Luke Breathnach has shown enough to suggest he will contribute.

Are Ross McGarry and Paddy Small out of the panel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Paddy is back training i think. Brother John wont be coming back unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

The players you named have done well in patches but i dont think our bench is strong enough our attacking options are a million miles from what we had. Do we have enough to win an All Ireland? I think we do but everything would have to go right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,195 ✭✭✭✭blanch152

That was the greatest team of all-time, a team that won six in a row. Where we are now should see us winning every few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

This is the least confident i am of All Ireland success since we made the breakthrough in 2011. Fenton, McCarthy, McCaffrey and Mannion all gone on top of all the other top players you just cannot replace talent like that. Our ace card was always our bench. We could always rely on it making a difference. Not anymore. Not now anyway. Still have a strong team that could go deep but when it comes to the crunch a tight semi final will we have the quality and the legs to get over the line? I'm guessing no for this year. I think there are a couple better, hungrier, fresher teams like Donegal, Kerry, Armagh, Galway. No doubt we can beat ny team on a given day but can we beat two or three of them to lift Sam? Unfortunately i dont see it this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Yes i can never see us falling away like we did before. We'll always be there or thereabouts which is not a bad place to be

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Would Dessie do that trick again where he fooled everyone started a weaker team with fast young lads, keeping the experience lads in reserve? It won a Sam I didn’t see coming.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I can't remember that to be honest. Don't think Dessie has ever had as few top class forward options off the bench as he does this year. I think he will start strong against the bigger teams no option really.
