Best presidential start of term ever

President Musk and First Dog Trump wiped out 5 trillion of assets

    The power of marketing.

Do you recall the guy who was quoted here, saying he voted for Trump because of his "business acumen".

    F**king laughable stuff.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,751 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Look, you have to have business acumen to do that much damage.

Biden couldn't even wipe 5 trillion off in value if he tried.

You can't put a value on socking it to the libs / having a real man in charge…

    Am I doing this right?

No. I don't agree with this and it's a very US POV.

Right now, there is nobody in this country that I can vote for. I can't throw my X on Labour. I've never voted for Sinn Fein. I absolutely despise Fine Gael and their smug politics/politicians, Fianna Fail have scuppered the country twice in my lifetime and have always been chancers, I'm not that enamoured with the Social Democrats who seem to be somewhat at sea in the grand scheme of things and the "others" leave me cold. There were also no indies that caught my eye.

However, if someone is a citizen of the state and paying taxes etc, then they absolutely have a right to voice their opinion on how the country is being run by those with their hands on the levers of power, regardless if they voted or not.

It's understandable that people get angered by someone who just cannot be arsed to get out and vote because it's the most important democratic right that people possess. But sometimes the case is that a person just can't see anyone that they can, in all consciousness, vote for.

In addition, I'd actually prefer if people who aren't informed on what they're voting for stay the fu*k out of the polling booth. There's too many clowns voting for and against people/issues that they don't have the first clue about and it leads to catastrophic results. Hello Brexit/Hello Trump.

Anyone with quarter a brain and a gram a decency can see how dangerous and divisive and utterly reckless Trump and his backers are. Not voting doesn't change this

Gerry Hutch got 1000s a votes by people in this country. Voters are a huge problem in places!!!

the scaremongering about compulsive voting is just that.

Here in Australia we have CV, there’s very little in the lunatic fringe getting in

I didn't mention anything on "scaremongering about compulsive voting".

Tarriffs are simply more tax's they increase the cost of goods for consumers .I think musk is his his own world he wants to cut federal agencys and sack as many people as possible .people servants protect the environment and protect consumer rights they work in national parks and pay pensions or provide medical services to people in low income .western countrys allow people to retire and provide basic services and pensions which are paid for by the tax's those people paid when they were working .They also collect taxes and regulate company's to ensure real competition.

If the federal government is erased the quality of life will fall even for middle class people

It makes no sense to privatise federal agencys eg you can't make a profit running social security or Medicare Medicaid or running national parks or providing emergency services in natural disasters

People voted for trump because the democrats have lost touch with working class voters and are seen as soft on crime and immigration .alot if people won't vote for a black female president anyway for obvious reasons

I'm not sure why it is a US point of view, they seem more interested in stopping people from voting than obliging them to. Unless they are Republicans. I don't agree with forced voting either, it would encourage protest and uninformed votes that had no relationship to the government of the country. While I agree generally with your analysis of Irish political parties, its going well off topic for this thread.

People voted for Trump based on a multitude of reasons. Most of them entirely ignorant of who and what he is and represents.

Frankly, I would have preferred if those people had stayed on their couch. The US would probably look quite different today.

I'm not sure why it is a US point of view

I have, generally, only heard the idea that people who haven't voted should remain voiceless from Americans. I fundamentally disagree with that idea no matter where it's expressed.

I don't agree with forced voting either

I, literally, said nothing about "forced voting".

While I agree generally with your analysis of Irish political parties, its going well off topic for this thread.

That I do agree with. 😄

What do you like about the GOP?

The fact that they want to subject every child in america to random genital inspections?

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

It would scratch him. Animals tend to recognise people who like them. There's a good reason there's no cat-or dog-in Trump's WH. The bald eagle didn't take to him either. Animals are no fools.

Our argument in this article is restricted to majoritarian electoral systems, with the US serving as our primary case study. Although one might expect to find similar effects of CV in systems with proportional representation, the details of electoral competition under PR are sufficiently distinct to be outside the scope of our current article and of the formal models discussed here.

So not really of any use here

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

And heavily partisan feedback keeps the media that way. MAGA readers expect MAGA media to hew to the Trump line and will punish any deviation from that course. That why any right-wing media that have any pretensions to objectivity are in a quandary. If they dare to contradict some Trumpist statement or voice disagreement over any policy, they lose readers and are liable to face the wrath of the God Emperor. Having an impeccable rightist record won't save you. Recent WST doubts earned them condemnation as 'globalists'. To hardcore MAGA any deviation from orthodoxy (which could means March's orthodoxy or This weeks orthodoxy or Saturday's) could have one condemned as 'leftists' . NoT too different from Stalin's USSR….without the mass murder.

When almost everyone agrees with each other on everything and just echo what the other person says. This thread is almost 100% anti-Trump in which posters with identical opinions thank each others posts.

Mod Edit: Warning issued for commenting on other posters rather than the thread topic

But if you go to a restaurant and don't like anything on the menu would you eat there anyway? Why on earth would I vote for people who have turned my country into a total kip? I would however vote for the GOP if I lived in the US.

I don't believe there's such a thing as 'centrist'. The centrist agrees with the leftist on pretty much everything. He's just a different shade of left.

But the US is far more left than right. Most of the universities, if not all, are left-wing. Most of the media is left-wing. A lot of the right-wing outlets you mentioned are small ones. It's really only Fox that's a big player like NYT, Washington Post, etc. And Fox is more populist than right wing, in my opinion.

But they're pretty much identical. That's the point I'm making. On anything that matters, I mean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭Canaibh

I'd be fine with not having a right to hold a political onion. I have zero interest in Irish politics.

But why would I vote for parties I can't stand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,867 ✭✭✭✭BattleCorp

That's democracy though, innit. They have what they voted for.

Honest question. How do you know most of them are entirely ignorant of who and what he is and represents? I would have thought everyone in the States would know who and what he is and what he represents. I mean, who doesn't think he is a big ignorant fcuker who doesn't engage the brain before he speaks?

And for the record, I'm neither for nor against Trump. I agree with some of his policies and totally disagree with others. Kind of like how I feel about our Government here in Ireland.

That’s great, don’t vote, let the adults make decisions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,558 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

But you’d be ok if everyone agreed with you, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭CoffeeImpala

You probably just haven't met a properly left wing politician. There's very few of them anymore. A centrist would have very different views to some on the hard left.

There are no elected elected left wing politicians in the US. Even Bernie Saunders is right of centre. Any sort of left wing politics was stamped out during McCarthyism.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,119 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

There's plenty who thought he was great and was going to be doing fantastic things when he got back into power who are now out of a job, believing that he was only going to be targeting the people they didn't like. There's others who are sh*tting themselves over the threats to their social security checks too, because they rely on them to live. And yet more who shop for cheap overseas imported goods that are going to see the prices of those goods rise because they hadn't a clue what a tariff meant.

Also, believe it or not, there are actual people out there that don't think he's a "big ignorant fcuker who doesn't engage his brain before he speaks". Conversely they think he's the best thing to happen in American politics and is going "make America great again".

    Absolutely astonishing…I know.

Were we asked to send eggs to US too? What did we say?

US Department of Agriculture had sent formal inquiries to egg-producing countries in late February seeking information on their ability and willingness to export eggs to the American market.
