Please let us know if you advertise privately. I know someone chasing an M50 depending on price etc.

great looking car from the reviews I’ve seen. Is it impressive in the metal Gumbo?

Any prices released yet ? I heard end of March.

I’ll be trading in my Seal excellence for one of these as soon as possible.

you’re the second BMW i4 owner on here moving to BYD potentially.
No wonder the the premium German brands are in trouble.

End of March I was just told also. Hoping it's not a big jump from the Seal

With EVs it's a lot less about the drive and experience that the Germans always had a monopoly on. Current batch of BMWs are poor in terms of cost and interior

The big lumps of plastic body trim front, back and wheel arch (like the BZ4X) take away from it, you'd be forever treating it to keep it from not looking faded.

Seems a bit odd to have the car arriving in dealers but no word on price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,382 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

    German prices

    Comfort 45,586 EUR

    Design AWD 50,279 EUR

    Excellence AWD 52290 EUR

so maybe add a few k for delivery charges?

Has anyone seen both the Xpeng g6 and the Sealion 7 in the metal? how do they compare? Hope to see the Sealion 7 in Galway before the weekend but the Xpeng is days work to see :(

    Take a look at Bjorn's side-by-side comparison.

I went to see both in the showroom, but I didn't drive them. IMO the Sealion 7 is better looking, I think it would age better. Sealion interior looks and feels nicer. Sealion steering wheel is better. Sealion has Head-up display spending on spec. The infotainment is larger than G6 but G6 software UI is a bit more user friendly. I largely agree with Bjorn's opinions but to me the Sealon's seats felt more comfortable.
I plan to drive both in the coming weeks.

    Here's a ChatGPT TLDR of Bjorn's video.

BYD Sealion 7 vs. Xpeng G6 - Full Breakdown

    🏆 Winner: Xpeng G6 (Slightly)

    • Better efficiency, faster charging, and higher seating comfort make it the more practical choice.
    • However, the BYD Sealion 7 has a more premium ride and build quality.

    🚗 BYD Sealion 7

    Pros:

More premium feel – feels like a BMW or Mercedes
Better noise insulation – quieter cabin, less road noise
More comfortable ride – drives like a sedan rather than an SUV
Higher quality materials – better interior finish
Larger infotainment screen with rotating display
    Includes a head-up display (HUD)
More spacious frunk – better storage in Frunk(58 litres)(Boot/Trunk - 520 litres, seats down 1,789 liters)

    Cons:

    Much less efficient (211 Wh/km vs. 184 Wh/km for G6)
Lower driving position – sits more like a sedan, some may prefer SUV height
Slightly higher price when equipped similarly to G6
Weaker regenerative braking – no real one-pedal driving
Software/UI is cluttered – harder to navigate settings
Lack of rear seat recline adjustability
    _______________

    🚗 Xpeng G6

    Pros:

    Better efficiency – 20% more energy-efficient than Sealion 7
Faster charging speeds (Up to 280 kW vs. ~150 kW for Sealion 7)
More SUV-like seating position – higher ride height, more comfortable leg support
Better rear seat recline – seats recline further than Sealion’s
More practical tech – two wireless charging pads vs. one in BYD
Stronger regenerative braking – supports near one-pedal driving
More refined UI – cleaner layout and customizable shortcuts

    Cons:

Feels cheaper – not as solid or premium as the BYD
More road noise – especially on rough surfaces (but could improve with quieter tires)
Less comfortable ride – more SUV-like, but has more body roll and feels less planted
No rotating screen – unlike the Sealion 7
    No head-up display (HUD)
Weaker frunk storage – lacks space compared to BYD
Less adjustable storage under trunk floor
    No frunk -
    boot storage 571 litres

    Final Verdict:

    • Want efficiency, faster charging, and better practicality?Xpeng G6
    • Prefer a premium ride, quieter cabin, and better materials?BYD Sealion 7

Drat how did i miss Bjorn's side-by-side comparison?? thats excellent and TY for the Chatgp summary. :)

FYI I saw the Sealion in the BYD South Dublin showroom yesterday (was test driving the Xpeng G6 for a 2nd time), was told that the cost would start from €54K, so it's a good bit more expensive than the G6 if so. Model in the showroom is left-hand drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭Altreab2

I contacted BYD in Galway and they too have a left hand drive as a showroom model. Offical launch is April 1st and soon after they will have a right hand drive demo in early April. Pricing will be announced on launch day. Deliveries from end of April onwards.

They are copying tesla so much that they have to have LHD only in Ireland 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,382 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

must be for the AWD version, RWD is 45k in germany no way thats 54k here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,375 ✭✭✭ionapaul

That's very possible - he probably said 'that one there will be at least €54K' and I maybe mistakenly thought that he was speaking about even the most entry-level version, rather than the specific model on the floor!

Yup, the market's not going to support an entry level crossover at 54K.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭September1

But it also would have to be a bit more expensive than Seal which is 46 for base model and 51 for AWD.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I agree with that but the Seal sales have tanked this year. I suspect due to that higher cost, down 40% in January and 48% in February.

It will also have to be priced and placed as to not effect Atto sales.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭September1

I think Seal is not that competitive, it costs same as TM3. Perhaps new Sealion 7 will also follow same pricing strategy and follow TMY.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    So…37k/45k?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭September1

I think BYD Seal has only equivalents of TM3 LR RWD & TM3 LR AWD, 45k/51k

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Seal RWD is €8850 more than Model 3 RWD.
Seal AWD is very closely matched to the Model 3 AWD. It’s the RWD that’s over priced IMO.

If the sealion can match the MY and G6 pricing it will be very competitive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭September1

I think Seal has only equivalent of LR RWD which costs 45k for base model. Unlike Tesla all trims get large battery. It seems also that they fail to advertise it, as most people compare 37k model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,660 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

Seal AWD equivalent is inbetween the Model 3 AWD and Performance IMO.
