Is it fairly simple to move your Revolut account to a new phone?

I’ll be keeping same number so just downloading the app on my new phone.

    Should I encounter any problems?

It was easy enough the last time I done it last year.

If keeping same number its a breeze.

    • Have your password and/or PIN handy.
    • Not essential, but on my old device I turned off biometric security, then logged out.
    • Then on the new phone simply install the app using your phone number. You will be prompted for a OTP code.
    • Then you should be back in business. If not, the app will guide you through a verification procedure.

93% of refunds were <€1, and the maximum refund is €5. Refunds to issue and customers do not need to take any action. It is understood customers were charged on a real-time basis, but that this charge should have been applied after year-end for the preceding year.

Did any ATM users notice this extra few cents charge?

    Anyone with UK Revolut?

Is it possible to setup a SEPA Direct Debit from it to pay an Irish company (in Euros / from your Euro Revolut balance)?

I know it's possible to send Euro transfers to other SEPA countries but just wondering if the "GB…." IBAN that UK Revolut gives is capable of Direct Debits?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,236 ✭✭✭wassie

Probably not. From Revolut personal support:

    https://help.revolut.com/help/transfers/outbound-transfers/how-to-send-money-to-another-bank/paying-via-direct-debit/setting-up-a-direct-debit/

Direct debits are only available for local EUR transfers.

The foreign currency accounts you have in your Revolut account are not normal bank accounts as such, they are Nostro/Vostro accounts.

I much preferred being charged the stamp duty on a real time basis!

I did not but I'm apparently getting a 24c refund

I'll be sure to spend it wisely

There seems to be a good few reports over the last day or so of accounts being frozen. Usually I take it with a pinch of salt when I see these posts as there’s usually some detail left out but these latest ones seem to be affecting joint accounts and after wages hit the accounts. Just thought it was strange seeing so many posts with such similar details.

Did anyone else receive this email?

Yup, fairly standard and they are just letting you know nothing changed. 22k on the investment savings accounts and investments and then the 100k banking guarantee would be on banking funds.

I believe as you say there is more to it in many cases. I received a larger than regular sum from employer yesterday by a few fold that would in theory trigger money laundering but business as usual nothing out of the ordinary happened.

I think crypto deposits set off the alarms in their system.

Bought , using Rev, a shirt in Elverys, (Friday 28 February). Had to present card twice, but now have a duplicate charge on my Rev account. Elverys have been good enough to provide me with copies of the voided and valid transaction and say that Rev will sort this without my intervention. The term for this phenomena is "Shadow transaction"

    Anybody have similar experience?

I will wait till Tuesday before ATTEMPTING🤪 a contract with Rev.🤕

No need to contact them yet i would say, was it on credit card with rev or debit?

Shadow charges are normal on credit cards. It's where the merchant marks that amount as theirs on your credit card but don't actually take the funds. Think of a hotel they create a shadow on your card but release it back to you at end of stay but gives them the ability to get the money if needed and stopping you maxing out your card and them left with no money to take if needed.

The void should have released the amount back onto your card but in some cases take a few business days.

Is the status of it pending when you look at it in revolut?

I've had it happen with taxis/freenow before and it usually reverted after 7 days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,837 ✭✭✭beachhead

Should revert after a max of 7 days

    @beachhead @optiplexgx270

Money back on account, phew, glad that ended so quickly & painlessly. My Rev Visa card starts 4165 , it's a standard Debit,as far as I know. Neither of the duplicate charges showed as "Pending"

    Thanks for support.

On the Revolut sub on Reddit. Usually there’s a few posts saying their personal account was frozen and it’s either very vague what they did or crypto related but these ones seem different because they’re joint accounts and seems a lot in one go. Probably nothing was just curious.

I might be renting a car later this year and I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues renting from Hertz with a Revolut card?

I guess I should get the credit card to avoid the big block on my debit card with the rental?

Anyone have any general advice, it's my first time renting a car abroad?

A lot of rental car companies won't let you rent a car with any debit card (not just Revolut). Check the details on your email confirmation.

A Revolut debit or credit card is just a normal visa or Mastercard.

Don't forget car hire excess waiver insurance, cheaper to buy here and if you do have an accident, they pay the massive excess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,623 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Depending on your plan car hire excess may be covered once you pay with revolut. €2k on metal up to 31 days trip as long as >200km from home.

As suggested I would have a credit card for the counter on the day for the deposit.

Hertz tend to be on the more expensive side of the scale when renting.

www.rentalcars.com I've found these good in past once stick with the better known companies (hertz, sixt, alamo, europcar, budget etc) and away from the smaller local setups.

Some companies will insist on CC only, however, if you have enough to cover the excess, 2k with Budget in Dublin at least, they might make exceptions. Budget Ireland is what I usually use at home but they have a pretty high excess compared to other countries which tend to be less in my experience. You might get away with it but confirm in advance if you can use debit cards for excess/insurance

My guess is the excess is on hold on a CC instead of a regular debit with the cash taken then returned at a later date.

If you're actually renting at the Airport in Dublin it's worth noting if you arrive after 9pm, the cars are usually ready in the short term car park, instead of getting a bus to the hub down the road.

If you're booking direct check for any cashback offers from companies, otherwise booking.com or other sites offer better value than direct from rental companies.

Thanks folks, the rental will be in Italy so that'll be a journey of its own.

I checked out Metal but it wasn't worthwhile for the travel insurance alone and I don't think I'd have much use for the other benefits

The rental is with Hertz, they were actually pretty reasonably priced, especially when booster seats are added. Some places are charging nearly €100 for a kids booster against €37 from Hertz (which is still a bit of a rip off)

They said it's a €200 deposit but I'll probably bring the credit card anyway. I'll be getting excess waiver insurance before I go, it's around €25 against €90 from Hertz directly

Since I need to pay the excess if something goes wrong it'd be handy to have the credit card with enough credit available. I don't want to be messing around transferring money from vaults on the day, knowing my luck that'd be when the roaming isn't working

I usually insure the excess with someone like this:

    https://www.carhireexcess.ie/

I've never had to actually claim from it so not sure what they're like it but if the excess is sizeable, it might be worth considering

Make sure you bring your physical credit card with you to collect the rental car. They don't accept phone-based cards.

Thanks, I'm guessing a few people have made that mistake since they're now saying they'll only accept a physical card. Good to know since I'd originally planned on just getting a virtual card

In the last twelve or so years of using carhireexcess.ie, I've had to claim twice - for a chipped tyre and a bumper scratch. Both times very painless. Refunded in a matter of a few weeks.
