Trying to charge my car using my recently installed sync ev unit. Have had no issues but now just have flashing blue light from ev unit but app wont seem to charge car.

Only thing that happened is electricity tripped over weekend but that was justca couple of seconds , car wasn't charing at the time. I'm new to this ev stuff so has anyone any ideas? Tks

Turn off the power for the charger for a minute or so, and then turn it back on. It should hopefully reset it all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭beetlebailey

    Tried that...no joy.

Have continuous blue light on sync charger but once I plug it goes to blue flashing light.

Tried instant charging but car kerosene saying "checking in progress" and just hangs doing nothing.

It's a reno etech si maybe that's the problem! Battery is a 4% so don't fancy driving ti public charger to test incase that doesn't work either

Have you a granny charger? If so, you could use it to check if the issue is the car or the charger and also give you enough to get to a public one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭beetlebailey

Plugged in granny cable and it appears to be working..."checking in progress " error has gone and looks like its charging.....thanks!

    Good to hear.

So it's likely there's a problem with your charger. Possibly caused by the brief power outage. Maybe a surge when it came back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭beetlebailey

Yep I guess so...now the next job is to try and get Fokearn out to take a look....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,718 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

Yeah, all else being the same, the fact the granny charger works and the Sync EV doesn't would seem to indicate a fault.

Anytime I drove around Adamstown I noticed a lot of pedestal chargers on the paths at parking spaces and assumed they had a very forward looking management company and council who allowed installing them, apparently not.

So now the management company are going to remove them? It'll be interesting to see how they propose to remove the isolator safely as it's wired directly back to a private consumer unit which presumably they will not be getting access to unless they plan to involve ESBN to fully cut the power.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Connect brown to blue and it will turn off at the breaker!

    Ehh, another thread borked… :-(

They won't find anyone that'll remove them for them tbh. What electrical company would touch this with no access? None, plus they're all busy anyway no ones going to touch a troublesome issue like this. Red flag for time versus effort versus money.

They've told the residents to remove them. I don't know what leverage they have over the residents to force them to do this, but you'd assume they'd have some way to pressure them.

If the residents don’t remove them, the MC will arrange for their removal and add the costs for removal onto the following year’s management fees for each particular resident.

Ludicrous situation. The MC should be held to touch for this behaviour for not allowing them or working with the residents.

I can see the problem obviously the allocated parking I.e these folks are basically laying claim to parking spots they don't own. But there's zero means for the MC to get any access to the CB inside. So no company is going to touch it. At best they can try revoking parking permits I presume.

Kill power at the isolator and remove items.

But we into a whole other issue now of civil ownership of the chargers against what the MC term H&S issues.

I’d say they will go the legal letter route first before attempting to remove them. The home owners can ignore it, but at the end of the day, any owner looking to sell will then have to setting the costs with the MC before the sale can go through.

The isolator will still be live unless isolated at the consumer unit which is presumably inside the private property.

Yes, live on one side. Same as an RCBO on the CU.

Exactly, but presumably if the MC want the charger removed, they want everything removed, pedestal, isolator, cable and ground reinstated as it was.

It would be unsafe to work on the live isolator and cable, hence my original scepticism that they'd actually be able to do it without homeowners cooperation.

    Agh yeah makes sense.
Hence why I said in the post that they’d donate legal letter route before any attempt at removal IMO.

Original installers should be called back to remove and refund issued to residents.

You can't run private cable under a public footpath as per ESBN regs.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,182 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Wouldn’t this be classed as private. It’s not in public control. Hence the MC involvement.

Same way you can dish your footpath for a driveway yourself in a private estate but you need a the LA to do it in a public estate.

So it’s a civil issue. Onus is on the home owners to satisfy themselves they are doing right. Not the installer.

Same goes for these log cabins etc. Home owners responsible for compliance with planning regs. Installer has no liability.

Seems a bit silly of the home owners to go to the expense of installing chargers and buying EVs without checking with the management company first.

    Still borked. :-(

The only thing that makes sense is that other members of the Management company have demanded their removal. It might be because some owners have essentially laid claim to a communal space

    Hi All…

Am looking at the SKODA 1.5 Phev.

Have to get my own charger installed. So could I ask some questions for a NEWBIE like me.:

    1. What type of charger should I be talking to my Electrician in getting? Especially to future proof me for future AND/OR if I have visitors etc.
    2. How much would a charge cost to bring it from 0% to 100% overnight if my ESB rate is .27¢ a umit ??? Just wondering if I drive 20kms a day and they say the Skoda can get 100km range… for the 5 x days would cost me?
    3. Are people worried about charges being 'visible' on the house wall?? I can hide same behind a side-gate if I want to hide it when I am away from house.

    Many thanks for any help

I've a BG Sync charger, which got installed a few weeks ago. I am changing internet provider this week so I will need to change the wifi which the charger is connected to. Has anybody had to do this? Any idea how to do it!?

Can you just change the new WiFi username & password to be the same as the old one, then anything that's currently connected will connect to the new WiFi without requiring any further changes?
