We also lost the Slam vs a limited England, whereas Ireland fairly hammered England with Prendergast. Don't let that get in the way of your hating though.

Because it's like 10th on the list of problems from today.

14 man france for an hour Also without Dupont. Ireland were not missing a good few players who were missing today.

You conveniently forgot to mention that

Except he didn't catch the guys he was chasing. So I'm not sure your point

I've actually been quite complimentary about him while also trusting what the coaches were seeing and giving him the benefit of the doubt. France today were putting half backs under the kind of pressure I'd expect from NZ and SA, and SP doesn't have the speed to deal with it. One criticism I have made about his is his pace, at the start of the tournament he was beaten in a foot race by a forward to concede a try. On the evidence of today he is not quick enough to make the half breaks that Irelands game sometimes opens up, his grubbers weren't on point, his chips didn't work, etc. France recover 40%+ of those low kicks, I'm not sure what our numbers are but Id be surprised if they are in double figures. SP wasn't alone in playing poorly, very few Irish players did anything to put their hands up for the Lions beyond Doris, RH, Keenan and Conan, maybe JGP. Aki was anonymous, we missed Lowe really badly, Joe played ok but really should be fired for that yellow card.

The pack were quiet and buried by France's maul. That makes things hard for any ten, but other than place kicking Sam was not bringing anything today, and many of his decisions were just poor. That said, in terms of much of his kicking I assume it was starters orders from the coaches and tactically it played into French hands, partly because they are so good on the counterattack and partly because the several kicks weren't accurate enough, and that goes for JGP too.

Does that mean we move on from SP and bring Crowley back to the ten slot, not necessarily. SP is still the player he was last week and the things coaches see in him haven't dissapeared, but it is obvious from today that he is not a world talent that some have talked him up as being.

Nice to see Healy bag one on the way out the door, but Connor's glory hunting was insane. POM reminded us why everyone hates him as an opponent.

One to forget from an Irish POV, this French team really are brilliant, they didn't miss a beat losing Dupont even if we played into their hands. Seeing the wing forward who came on as a centre bag a try was the icing on the cake for them. Everything worked.

We're going to need a lot of serious work done to make this team win grand slams again in the future.

That game against France today was nowhere near the level of potential that we needed to show that we can win them outright. That result was the biggest indicator that it was not going to go our way when we wanted it. Ireland were a very tired looking team out there. They had no plan in place to make any attempt of playing smart rugby within the team. They only played a slow & repetitive brand of rugby which really showed our mark of potential against a big team like France.

It was the ultimate disaster in the making which cost us the GS.

France worked really really hard to get that win out there on the pitch today. They even had some of their big players injured out there in order to get them that win. Ireland didn't have any major issues with injuries out there apart from Doris getting off with the HIA. If Ireland had any major injuries out there throughout that game today; they wouldn't been able to have the power & prowess to win it against France.

It's also a really disappointing day for Healy, O'Mahony & Murray to go out like this while having their final home game in an Irish shirt. Healy's try in this game is a small crumb of comfort for him. O'Mahony not having his proper send off the pitch with the TV cameras was a joke. He deserved a lot more attention from the cameras for what he has contributed to Irish Rugby over the years as to what was shown towards him today.

I don't know why we even field the rest of the players , clearly only the performance of the ten has any impact on the result!

Is that a no on the analysis clegg? I'm shocked

Nash had a very very poor game but hard when you have so little time and it's Lowe you are replacing.

He was chasing one of the fastest lads in the game. He looked plenty fast

Why is it the french defense coach and not the head coach speaking to the media? I haven't seen the head coach speak

    Shhhhhh.

Don't deny the man his hard-on for Prendergast not having a good game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,348 ✭✭✭joseywhales

He forced one extra pass, so I suppose he created a .001% chance of a knock on

Didn't tackle with his head and get sin binned, leading to trys raining down his channel.

Remember we could be Wales or Scotland or England. For our resources we are punching well above our weight. Look at the number of professional players in France and money. We bring in a young out half for the future and he's constantly blamed. Its a team game. We are going through a rebuild with retirements and can't expect a grand slam or championship to be easy

We won a 6 nations last year! and Crowley never had a bad game the whole tournament!

It's gas, people calling for us to give guys a chance next week, whilst also some people want Prendergast dropped

    Listening to French coach there...

How are the French players allowed to interrupt game to tell the ref that DuPont has an ACL five minutes after the event, trying to influence ref, and ref talks to both captains? And coach comes out and says there not sure?

Maybe coach is being cautious, but still try to influence ref with dressing room info should not be allowed?

Ireland were very very poor today and our depth was badly exposed. Not clinical enough and our reliance on Lowe was fairly evident early on. We looked out of ideas quite frequently.

France were brilliant. Their defence in the first 20 was phenomenal and how they rallied without Dupont was incredible.

Gardner needs to go back to referee-school. Some absolute howlers that even his TMO and assistant were trying to correct on.

Very disappointing as an Irish fan but a fair result all things considered.

I mean it's unlikely but France being France and Scotland being Scotland.....they could turn them over.

I think Italy will smell blood next week and will have a right crack off Ireland.

He was poor I thought, the clear out on POM and the lack of warning to France in the opening 20 were frustrating. I feel he's not a ref that's particularly favorable towards us.

Weird vibes in here, are we not let criticize Prendergast?

Hes young and Irish and plays for Leinster, so yes we like to get carried away, just like we've done with the Byrnes/Madigan/Carberry in the past.

Im not seeing the next Sexton myself, in a similar vein Crowley isnt the new ROG

They seem a level below the English options for example

Irish rugby during this successful era has been the worst I have personally seen. Most of the other 6 Nations countries still manage to get an atmosphere and the Irish soccer team get a good atmosphere at Lansdowne for instance.

I don't get the pundits love for Prendergast tbh.

Yes he's good, but he's just not there yet.

All in all though, we were well beaten today, irrespective of ref decisions.

Think it must be just the Irish team because the Leinster fans create a great atmosphere at the Aviva...

Dan Carter would have struggled behind that pack today forwards win matches.…

Agreed entirely. The clear out should have been a foul all-day-long. The deliberate knock on near the end should have been a yellow. No French warning for constant infringements at the start. Telling Ireland he was playing on with a man down at a line-out but then stopping the game for France when they had a man down.

    He was utterly shocking.

But France deserved the win so I don't blame him for the result. Those issues really don't help momentum all the same.
