Think its in the 50's that would rise to 70ish if he hit what was needed.

Still tho, your point still stands. Lad needs an experienced striker with him next season.

No idea what to expect on Thursday evening (early kick off, 5:45pm). Real Sociedad took a 4-0 beating from Barca today. Lost to Madrid and Antony’s crowd recently too. (All expected I suppose). You would be worried enough after the extra time played today and the injury list. Bring a draw home and hope for the best in the second leg 🤷🏻‍♂️

On one hand a Europe-free season could be a good opportunity to try and recover from the league performances of the last two seasons but financially it’s just going to set us back and put a limit on the squad overhaul that’s needed.

Unfortunately Fulham had the way better penalty takers, Jimenez, William are regulars, Robinson's one was I've cold, we had Bruno and that was about it, I had no faith in anyone after him really except cas.

It is disappointing to be out of the cup the league is a wash now anywyas at best we could scrap top 10 and won't be relegated, no problem seeing more of the kids if they are anyways ready and prepping for next season and the Europa league

getting worse since Amorim arrived. Only priority now is to not get relegated. Hard to make out any clear tactics . We didn’t even have a full bench of subs today - **** madness

Roughly need 40points … means at least 2-3 wins in our remaining PL games. Hard to see where that will come from.

Unfortunately time has run out for Amorin now and I don’t think he will be around after the summer. RH needs to be moved on loan or sold and 20 goal a season player brought in.

The jury has been out for long enough, I'm afraid. A truly awful signing.

We were okay today but yet again we only seem to have one half of football in us.

Do you think Ipswich or Leicester are getting 23 points from their last 11 games? They’ve managed to get 17 points from 27 games up to now.

I think things are only going to get worse over the next few weeks. Can see us being dumped out of Europe and Arsenal giving us a bit if a thumping.

We really have looked shocking bad for the majority of the last 3 games

Lindelof scored the winning penalty against Brighton to send us into the FA Cup final in 2023 tbf. Think whoever missed today was going to be criticised. Garnacho’s shooting is awol, lads only 20 and clearly feeling the pressure.

I don't know what kind of coaching it is but Hojund needs to learn how to use his body more, I said it during the game but obi managed to make a chance out of nothing against bassy who is huge by positioning his body well, as much as Hojund doesn't get service which I've argued myself, he makes nothing happen for himself, even in the box obi just seemed to be in the right spot a few times that Hojund never seems to be.

I think he was shown up today for sure by a young lad who is still quite green

I don’t. But I do think we will struggle to get the 10-12 points needed and will finish 17th.

    17th ffs

To try to be better than 17th - to not be the worst team in the premier league.

    our run in is:

Arsenal, city, Aston Villa, forest and Chelsea. Brentford and Leicester not straight forward.

    Take the blinkers off man

I thought there was some nice passages of play by United at times. A few times DeLigt pressed very high wins the ball and there were chances created...I think thats what Amorim wants

Again though poor decision making caused alot of play breaking down. Garnacho..i know hes 20 but he gets into a position to score and zero power in his shot or the opposite he fires it into Row z

You thought 40 points were needed to avoid relegation and you accuse others of having blinkers on!?

Utd are 16 points clear of the relegation places. They are probably safe even if all remaining games are lost. 3-4 points needed maximum, not 10-12.

Also 17th isn't the worst team in the league, I believe 20th is. Maybe you mean worst team in the league not to be relegated?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,961 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

Forest stayed up last season with about the same points total we have now. 40 points is not a necessity to stay up anymore. The win on Wednesday night at least ended the worry of relegation, Ipswich and Leicester are too far behind.

That said, you could see our season deteriorating even further now. We simply don't score enough, obviously, confidence is really low and too many important players are injured long term

If you don't think City, Arsenal, Forest and Chelsea I don't know what to say. Of the current top 5, the only team I think he maybe doesn't start for his Liverpool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭soap1978

As to start bringing youth in for league games not going to go down and not going to finish above 10th,have to win the Europa cup, madness at man utd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,736 ✭✭✭✭JRant

Yeah, he definitely decided to have only 2 goalkeepers and 5 outfield players on the for the craic. Go check out the injury list he's dealing. The media were falling over themselves to make excuses for Mateball when he had half the injuries we have.

It's crap but don't suggest this is only on the manager. He inherited a complete shambles of a squad. He needs to do better but us fans need to manage expectations a tad better being honest. We are in 14th place because that's exactly what this squad is capable of.

When he stepped up I was actually confident as I had a vague recollection of him burying one previously. Shame he missed but these things happen. Should've won the game in normal/ extra time.

Anyone talking about relegation, with any level of seriousness or claiming we need 40 points is either talking out of their hoop or on the wind up so I'm not gonna go too deep here, just to say don't panic there lad. Everything will be alright.

Very disappointing, but to be honest, Fulham looked far more likely to score in extra time than us.

Onana came up with a few very good stops today, kept us in the game,

At the other end, it’s a total sh!tshow. Zirkzee tried his best and ran himself into the ground, but lacks the quality and instincts. Obi looked promising, a bit slow, but got into the danger spots and is well able to use his size.

Hojlund needs gotten rid of for the sake of his own career, United has him broke mentally, but mostly for our sake as he must be the worst striker the club has ever had, I was all for giving him time to see could he his potential but he’s beyond useless for us.

Another nail in this season. It’s been shockingly poor, and while as a supporter you have to be optimistic, it’s getting harder and harder to see how Amorim is going to turn this ship around on the field given the poor tactics, poor performances and lack of quality, never mind the likely lack of investment, and the club has never looked or felt less like Man United off of it. And now the cup is gone, and relatively tamely at that, this season is going to drag on badly.

BTW, what is wrong with our S&C? We always seem gassed after 80 minutes. Whatever about the lack of talent, or even the lack of pace, if we have any hope of implementing Amorim’s attacking/pressing game he had at Sporting, we’re going to need athletes that can last the distance. Injuries aside, it’s genuinely shocking how a Premier League side can be that poorly prepared physically.

Højlund needs help, still. He looks broken at this stage (and yet is still not underperforming his XG incredibly he just lives on scraps, actually scraps is too generous a word). It was flagged very well that bringing him in on his own to put the whole shop on being the man from day 1 (or day 400) was madness and as likely to break a prospect as make him.

The pile on at the moment is a bit sad to see, even the likes of Chido offers more etc comments all kinda completely ignore that when Chido comes on the tactics also change. He won't do it, but I hope he actually does start Chido a few games so people can see the familiarity of a striker working the graveyard shift at united. This isn't new, this has been going on years.

Højlund needs to be benched for a few games and give him a break from it

Lads criticising the penalty takers when they have no idea who put their hand up or didn't to take one. Bare in mind we had two 17 year olds on the pitch and they were never gonna be in the first 5 takers. Garna can't hit a 5 yard pass never mind a peno so that leaves 7 other names available. Should MDL or Maz have taken one because they are the only other available guys.

The constant need to criticise and moan about every little thing is exhausting. Today's game didn't teach us anything we don't already know about the players. And genuinely anyone trying to blame the formation or style of play or saying there's no clear patterns is not worth debating. Same as the "fans" that blame the manager, just not worth even engaging with.

It's the worst assembled squad of traditional top team I've seen in my 35+ years of being a fan. We probably won't win many games between now and end of the season. It's going to be a tough couple of months but if, and it's a major IF, we get the summer right, we can begin to look forward. I don't expect we'll be seeing anyone big name players other than Bruno in a Utd shirt for the foreseeable future but that's likely for the best.

There is a way forward and I fully believe RA can be the man to get us there but the fans and more importantly the powers that be will need to ignore alot of outside noise. Because make no mistake there are many people that are and will continue to bask in these low moments for MUFC. I have faith in the manager, it's the fans and the board that worry me most.

Garna has been told to pass the ball a lot more I reckon. There was one or two occasion when he cut inside and the shot was on but he passed. Old Garna if was to shoot could have led to something.

He the most direct player we have with the ball and will always go forward which we need. Id be holding on to him for a good while anyway as he offers a threat in transitioning the ball forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

He has improved a lot in terms of how much he passes, he used to shoot on sight, even though today he have 5 or 6 shots only one was stupid, that's not bad Bruno has one himself and his ridiculous rabona.

Its not just when he cuts inside either, his left foot crossing has improved and something he uses a lot more and only 3 4 games ago he was completely ignoring the overlap he is trying and finding the overlap much more often now, our goal came from him using dalot on the left today after a decent dribble from him.

He shooting has been poor this season and he still has areas to improve on like decision making but he is only 20 trying to learn a new position and change what the last manger wanted him to do by being more of a team player instead of always shooting.

I think it's good to see a young player trying to and improving the weak areas of his game, we have said young players in the past have stagnated at united over the years and I don't know what the future holds for garnacho but he deserves more credit then he gets imo

Yep, he desperately needs a bit of time out of the firing line.

I think both things can be true, Hojund isn't getting enough service and is very low on confidence but also he is doing a lot of things wrong.

Obviously the tactics are different to the start of the game when obi came on but it's not like Hojund hasn't had opportunities in a game state like that himself,.we have been chasing plenty of games where he has been on the pitch or come on as a sub himself.

I don't think obi is ready but his performance was better pretty much then anything Hojund has done against a premier league team this season

Hey look, your fully entitled to your view and so is everyone else.

Almost nothing in life never mind football is black and white so there are certainly going to be elements of truth in more than one simplistic explanation.
