Power surge's, no heating on buses, monitors constantly moving so you can't see side of bus, heavy steering, the brakes, the monitors at night time you can't see a cyclist coming up beside you.. there's more aswell i could go on..if the problems where sorted it be a great bus.

Purely from a pax point of view, they are very nice buses to travel on. If I’m not stressed on timing, I’ll seek one out on my road and get one into town. Lovely and smooth, quiet, loads of legroom.

Hopefully the problems will get resolved. I don’t understand not having standard mirrors. You can’t go much wrong with them!

Feels more like travelling like on the Luas or a train than a bus

Is there work under way on electrifying other depots or has that stalled again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,879 ✭✭✭rx8

Ringsend has the sub-station built, but no charging equipment in yet.

Harristown, I believe, is next on the list for electrification.

    Some E Spine updates:

The running times on the X1 and X2 have now been corrected to realistic stop by stop timings when compared with the ludicrous timings that they were set up with.

Also, the X2 now stops at Loughlinstown Hospital along with the stops immediately north of there in both directions.

The main southbound stop in Kilcoole Village that was always served by the 84X (just south of the Sea Road junction) has now been reinstated on the X2.

Yes I’m surprised they went with the camera mirrors! Generally it is best to only make one major change at a time. Going battery EV was a big enough change, the mirrors should have been kept for a future upgrade.

It is a great bus from a passenger perspective, if they can fix these problems I think it would be great for drivers too.

AX636, heating tends to be a problem with battery buses, that has cropped up elsewhere. No Diesel engine to dump waste heat into the bus. In Boston, they have battery EV buses that also have a small Diesel engine, the Diesel engine is used just in winter for heating the bus! Obviously much colder temps in Boston.

Yes, the extra weight of the batteries, helps it feel much smoother.

Does anyone know why AX648 has moved to Harristown?

Likely when E spine came in as garage allocations were changed a little.

But to be quite honest why does it matter if one bus was moved to another depot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭BusGuy

Well it isn't just one bus, it's also AX647, AX646 too. But to me, if Donnybrook gets rid of all their AXs or moves them to another depot, the chances are I won't get one even if it turns out to be true, because if the AXs get allocated to X routes, I barely get on them routes, so you know...

They also seem to have fixed a lot of the runtime issues on the E1 and E2.

The E1 at rush hour is now scheduled to take longer, making the runtimes at least slightly realistic - although I still saw northbound buses being 20+ minutes late upon reaching city centre this morning.

The E1 and E2 are still scheduled to go southbound around the same time in the evening, but at least it's not the exact same minute anymore.

Also the southbound after-midnight timings seem to now have the buses departing 25/35 minutes apart, which is much better than the original schedule with a 15 minute gap followed by a 45 minute gap.

Night-time running times could definitely do with some tweaking as well. Got the 12:30 E1 from Bray on Friday night and despite leaving Ballywaltrim on time, it was already 7 minutes late at Bray Main Street. Was 9 minutes late by the time I got to Stillorgan. And traffic was dead, this was just from picking up and setting down passengers!

It does seem like the 2nd stop is scheduled assuming the bus drives directly to it, but in reality it has to loop around 2 roundabouts to get onto Killarney Road - meaning it can easily be running "late" even after leaving the first stop on time.

Decent loadings though which is good to see, on average 20-25 people on board.

Dublin Bus are making GoAhead’s recent performance look professional this morning with the shunters’ work to rule kicking in.

Huge numbers of cancelled morning departures due to buses not being fuelled overnight. Donnybrook has massive problems.

As an example after the 06:30 departure on the 14 from Dundrum departed, the next bus left at 07:55. That’s 6 departures cancelled.

Supposed to be talks on Thursday let's hope the issue is resolved. Could result in a lot more disruption if they vote for a strike.

Busses out to the gate this morning

Bus services across the city have been on a capacity knife edge due to the city's booming population, but this industrial action is going to tip it over the edge if not sorted quickly. Potentially very disruptive situation for the public.

small hours timings on the E routes seem much the same to me - on Kildare St the E1 departs at x.14 and the E2 at x.33 followed by a 41 min gap.

    Chronically poor scheduling.

They aren’t scheduling the Spine together but rather as two separate routes.

I can well believe it based on the no shows this morning. Thankfully I’ve several back up options that I can avail of, but a lot of people aren’t that fortunate.

The new timetable takes effect from Monday 10th. On Kildare Street from then the E1 is at xx.13 and the E2 is at xx.48.

OK - I was looking at BusTimes but I guess they don't have the new timetable loaded yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,793 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

I think that you’re looking at the Sunday timetable which runs into Monday morning.

The weekday one is still the same as outlined above.

Remember that up to 05:00ish is treated as the previous day, so the early hours of Monday morning is Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭VG31

Yes you're right. That's exactly what I was doing.

Fleet availability has drastically improved as the day progressed, but we are likely to see things get worse if the dispute continues, as buses get red flagged for faults.

Best bet in the mornings is services operated by the first few duties out of the depots on each route - after that we are likely to see a repeat of this morning.

Did the work to rule by Dublin Bus mechanics & cleaners have any negative effect on people waiting to go on the X routes from Hueston Station to UCD today? The routes around Heuston Station appear to be working well this evening.

Looking at the bus stops on OCS at the Quays around O'Connell Bridge:

All services are running to schedule although with some hiccups in place. Most of the cancellations there are affecting the non BusConnected routes this evening.

On OCS; there's 1 northbound bus cancelled on the 122 from Drimnagh to Ashington & 1 southbound bus cancelled each on the 38a & E1.

There's 1 northbound departure each recorded as cancelled on the 15 & 27a at the stops on Eden Quay.

There's 1 southbound bus cancelled this evening on the 70 to Burlington Road at Batchelors Walk.

BÉ also have 2 cancellations in place for the 133 at the stops along Hawkins St as well. Although there is 1 departure on the 133 bus sandwiched in there that is running to schedule in-between those 2 cancelled buses.

There are no major distruptons in place when I checked the buses around Blackrock & Stillorgan this evening. There are no cancellations recorded so far on the BusConnected routes within those parts of Dublin. The non BusConnected routes like the 7b, 7d & 47 appear to be working well this evening from looking at their own timetables. However there is one departure cancelled on the 7a between Mountjoy Square & Loughlinstown Park later on this evening.

From looking around Bray this evening:

There is 1 GAI bus cancelled on the 45a between Dún Laoghaire & Kilmacanogue.

No other routes there have buses cancelled on their timetables.

Just saw this in Northwood FB group re E1

" no 7.24 this morning, no 7.30 this morning, 70 people at stop for 7.37"

That's nearly a full bus leaving Northwood, so it mustn't have been too good further down the Ballymun Road

edit: sorry, I know the reason, just noting the effects here

It's because there is a work to rule on my the min with the shunter's in the garages so buses haven't been cleaned or refueled for the next day, so buses are leaving very from garages when done.. it will be like this for the week

Dublin Bus has apologised for any delays that may have been experienced by customers due to a work-to-rule industrial action being taken by engineering operatives.

Last night around 190 operatives began the action in a dispute over pay.

Engineering operatives perform various maintenance and general tasks to ensure buses are available to deliver public transport services.

Their union SIPTU has accused Dublin Bus of refusing to meet their claim for pay parity with their traffic operative colleagues, who are on a higher grade.

SIPTU said that an agreed independent external review of the roles supported the pay parity claim
