Last year I had to fight hard and the same package was actually €75 last year and they wouldn't match the new customer offer because they did the whole "you've already had 2 years of new customer offers" thing. They always called my bluff with Sky because they knew it was >100mb in my area but now I can get >1gb on a range of providers. Ironically this year I didn't even need to mention it and they agreed when I asked for half price for 12 months! Now I think I should have asked for half price for 2 years it was so easy!

even if virgin were close to matching the deal we got, id of left. i wasnt gonna beg.

called up .. 20 mins to get through.. was offered 6 months half price.. so I told agent to process the cancelation.. If I don't get a 9 month half price, will just go as a new customer or go to a competitor…. Any issue signing up as a new customer with same name?

Been covered to death at this stage, no there's no bother going as a new customer, just don't be saying it to customer support.

Virgin Media must amend training manuals on financial incentives to agents, High Court orders

The judge, however, rejected a separate claim by the communications regulator, ComReg, that Virgin was also in breach of the regulations by requiring customers to give 30 days notice before terminating their contract. The court heard had ComReg been successful on this issue, it could have opened up Virgin to a potential multimillion euro liability in refunds to affected customers.

The judge also rejected Comreg’s argument that customers who phone up Virgin to cancel should be dealt with through a “two step approach”. This would involve the customer being first offered a choice to consent to listen to the agent’s “save (the customer from switching) activity” or go directly to cancellation without having to listen to it.

At least competition is finally taking care of this problem.

Which other utility requires 30 days notice to terminate contract and switch?

Oh thats good, so no notice required if your at end of contract?

Just cancelled my account and got this half price for 9 months offer by SMS:

    https://www.virginmedia.ie/loyalty-halfprice-for-9-0425

It says it only works if you got the text, but it might be worth a try.

I never got a text and tried it there, worked no problem:

Great news you have now locked in this offer for the next 12 months! There is no need for you to do anything else because we will take it from here.

You will receive confirmation of your order within the next 72 hours. Your new terms apply from your next bill.

    Thank you,

    The Virgin Media Team

Same here, thanks for the link. I rang them 2 days ago and said there were no BB deals at the moment and were happy for me to cancel.

Think this has worked for me too so thanks a mill for posting. It's the minimum i would've accepted but delighted if I've been saved from doing a cancellation dance. Haven't done the wife swap in a couple of years either as really don't want to lose the 360 box with hard drive to a streaming piece of crap.

Still have a month or so to run on the 12 month contract but looks like they'll apply the deal straight away once processed?

My contract ended last Wednesday, we went up to the Virgin store on Thursday and signed up again for €35 a month under my partner's name.

DPD had the new router out Friday morning and all was back working that morning.

We signed up with the same email for the billing too, no questions asked.

There was a €30 set up fee but still a saving of €390 over the 12 months.

That €30 set-up fee is a complete rip off when you just need to plug in the new modem. As a matter of interest, what modem did the send you? My son signed up to the 500 plan, they sent him old white modem which I thought was discontinued.

I sent in my 30 day cancellation notice a month ago. They initially offered me 6 months half price, then 9 months half price. I turned it down and signed up with Eir. My Virgin sub was due to expire tomorrow but I got a call from their loyalty team today offering me 12 months half price (TV, broadband and landline) so hopefully some of you will be offered the same deal. You might just need to let it run down to the wire.

Thanks for the link, I tried it and got message to say I'd be half price for 9 months and full price for 3. Said they'd confirm within 72 hours. 72 hours nearly up but haven't received any confirmation yet, perhaps tomorrow. 🤞

I think it's a white one, it's up in at the attic as I don't use it for the WiFi. I had a black/grey prior to that.

Just filled in the form for the 9 month half price offer. Fingers crossed it will work. Thanks OP.

I notice it says Broadband/TV. Is landline included I wonder ?

Was on 500mb bb only half price €35 for year. Now jumping to €70. Gave my 30 days notice yesterday. I just got 1gb Siro installed so defo moving this year. Cant go through these calls every March. As well as knocking Siro(I did remind him that they actually use Siro🤷) he actually said "you do realize that your new provider will increase the price in 12mths time" !!!!

After shaking my head a few times trying to make sense of that statement, I just told him to cancel. Got email this morning offering 9mth half price. Previous years that took a couple of weeks. Wonder if they are hemorrhaging customers and not leaving it till last min to try retain customers.

On to VM this morning had a very rude agent who only offered €15 off for 9 months. She searched my eircode and said no one else provides 1gb in your area and I am very high user. She said there is no 9 months half price for anyone at the moment!

So I cancelled to see if they will come back with a better offer. Sick of this yearly dance with VM🤬

Tried the 9 months link above so will be good to see if it works!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,030 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

Tried the 9 month above over a week ago. I haven't received a confirmation email yet. Should I contact them or hold off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭AhhHere

I was offered 9 months off half price. New customer offer is better. How close to my cancellation date can I sign up with the new account?

Already gave my notice though. I've 19 days left. Can I order a new box now?

Did any of you that used the 9 month loyalty offer link get confirmation you are on it?

we left there recently, got that offer too. virgin rang three times for us to stay, but thats it we're gone now, probably never go back. was with them years. they wouldnt budge initially so their loss, they tried to hang us over the barrel, went down like a lead balloon for me, im the customer , not the other way round. Why they left it til last minute, kinda shows contempt ?

like i said before, they knew other providers in the area were doing good deals, if they had of came some way towards what we were offered id of stayed, i wasnt looking for free, was willing to meet them half way.

they must be loosing a fair few customers, the building im in, a few ppl are making the effort now to change providers, be it electric, gas or tv and broadband.

Got this yesterday by txt. Ive already switched to Siro. Just wished VM had just offered this or even the 9mths half price on renewal, instead of looking for €70 pm for 500mb bb only. Not sure if it will work for everyone or anyone but its 12mts half price..

Thanks. I've just filled out this form (I'm on 500MB coax and have been with them for years) and got a confirmation message to say I've "locked in this offer for 12 months". I hadn't gotten the text. I suppose I'll see if it has worked or not. I'd prefer to stick with them as they're the only provider on the coax line, I have the Hub 3.0 in bridge mode to my own router which works great, and I'm not overly keen on a new fibre cable install just yet.

    We'll see how it goes!
