How much gas do we get from America?

Is it possible Trump could stop sending gas to Europe thinking we would have to start buying off Russia again? At an inflated price probably.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,524 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Why would he do that? If he's not selling it in Europe, he's not selling it anywhere else for similar money. Why would he not want US to make money from sales?

That would have been my first taught also, but I don't think anything is off the cards anymore, Trump seems to be under a spell by putin and he could just spin any old bullshit to make it happen

Various online reports suggest Russia occupied about 20% of Ukraine following the 2022 invasion and that figure remains largely the same.

    • 2022: $86.4 billion, a 31% increase from 2021, comprising 4.4% of GDP
    • 2023: $109.5 billion, a 26.7% rise from the previous year
    • 2024: $112 billion, sustaining a high allocation for military purposes
    • 2025: Projected to soar to $142 billion, accounting for 32.5% of government spending

    https://united24media.com/war-in-ukraine/how-much-russia-has-spent-on-the-war-4674

I can see why Ukrainian soldiers will be annoyed to say the least with a peace deal surrendering territory, particularly those from the occupied regions. But against the above figures any cessation of violence makes it very difficult for Putin to start up again. It also gives time for the EU to increase military spending something Russia will not be as capable of doing. The reality of a thrashed economy is something Putin will have to deal with. I wonder how much help his asset comrade Trump with give him.

Zelensky must have little choice. He knows the moron will be president for 4 years (though I believe USA will never have another election). Anyway, Zelensky is going to really anger Putin by handing over what Russia invaded for to Trump, and he knows this. He also knows that in time (well he doesn't think Trump is a dictator) that USA will give Ukraine back what is rightfully theirs.

Also, its amazing that Trump doesn't know Ukraine will never give up & unaware of guerrilla warfare, terroism etc on occupying troops

will you stop that ! . I am glad that Trump has stated in public that he has ‘bestowed ‘ on UKr the ‘right to fight’ and that he is backing up with more finance and arms. And I hope that VZ , when he visits Trump is ‘ humble and gracious ‘ enough to THANK President Trump Most profusely for the ‘PERMISSION’ and the ‘goods’ !!!!!!!!!

And he should promise to report to him on a weekly basis how things are going - that’s what a subordinate - with such serious assistance given - should do anyway. It’s just basic/good manners!

There is nothing particularly unusual about investment visas, albeit they have fallen out of fashion in Europe.

probably around th time you no longer needed one.

Am I right in thinking that the mining deal betwixt the USA and Ukraine is for land currently occupied by Russia?

If so that keeps the USA bribed to be onside despite Putin's hold on Trump.

Ukraine will never give up & unaware of guerrilla warfare, terroism etc on occupying troops

Have most of those with a strong Ukranian identity not been 'ethnically cleansed' from the occupied territories?

Looking like it was pointless for Trump talking to Putin and co when they agree with one thing and the next day Putin and co disagree with it whilst in the meantime getting trump and co to do their bidding at the UN.

Putin and co never had a word to be trusted over. The only way anybody in the world can talk to anyone in Russia is through regime change and perhaps THEY may have a word that can be trusted.

Your word is your bond through either business or governance. Putin, Lavrov, Orwell Road never had that.

That Russian backed stooge presidential candidate who came out of nowhere in Romania with just a Tiktok campaign - yeah he's been arrested already and there's some shady **** going on

    https://www.digi24.ro/stiri/actualitate/justitie/surse-calin-georgescu-ridicat-de-politie-3135949

Original news: The announcement comes as 47 searches are being carried out today at Călin Georgescu's close associates, including Horațiu Potra, the head of the mercenaries, Georgescu's bodyguard and a new character who appears in the investigation , the partner of Georgescu's bodyguard, who allegedly has close ties to the top of the power circles in Moscow. In several images from the investigation, she appears alongside Circassian mercenaries and has posts that show her closeness to the Russians. And Horațiu Potra appears in images in Moscow's Red Square, where he was allegedly in September, sources from the investigation say. Among the accusations brought against them are: forming a fascist group, but also making false statements regarding the financing of the electoral campaign.

Prosecutors found weapons, assault ammunition and large sums of money during the searches. At Potra's home, in a safe hidden in the floor, investigators found 900,000 euros. The searches target suspicions of actions against the constitutional order, public incitement, initiation of a fascist organization, and false statements regarding the sources of financing for the electoral campaign.

Would be interesting to know what life is like for the locals in Russian held land now, there hasn't been much information coming out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,011 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

Full info is difficult, but what has come out paints a brutal scene:

Their language, national identity, culture - basically anything Ukrainian is repressed. They can be and are targeted for any pro-Ukrainian views. They are pretty much forced to take Russian passports (e.g. elderly people denied critical medication unless they get a Ru passport, etc)

Education system, media - everything has been replaced by Russian state controlled material. Their kids are being re-educated and forced to speak Russian.

Reports of imprisonment, deportations, disappearances. Locals have been conscripted to fight against Ukraine. Also checkpoints everywhere, high monitoring and surveillance

They are a subjugated occupied class now, forced to reject any Ukrainian culture they once had and effectively become Russian - but not even Russian, a sub class that is subject to arbitrary imprisonment, mistreatment, disappearances, torture.

All Ukrainians knew this as Russia invaded - it's why they have fought so hard.

Of course the silence from the "I just want peace in Ukraine" Putin apologist types about this was deafening. They live in a fantasy universe where Ukraine had some magic option of "peace" or "timeout" from the outset, instead of the reality that Ukraine only two choices, fight or be occupied. Fight standing up, or die under occupation like Bucha. They chose the former.

    Essentially…

Trump to Zelensky - "Mighty nice mining opportunities there, shame if anything happened to them."

Any hope future US regimes (I think that word certainly applies to Trump's government) will be so embarrassed they reverse some of the shakedown. The US reputation with Western countries/"Allies" must be taking a hammering.

    It’s mostly old people left

    • kids kidnapped and human trafficked
    • women either went to Europe claiming Ukrainian refugee status or ended up in prostitution in Russia, UAE etc
    • Men were fed into meatgrinder long ago

    That’s Russian Mir for ya

There is a reason Ukrainians are fighting so hard, those “Russian speakers” sympathetic to Russian propaganda have found themselves in hell or worse

Not making any claims as to the veracity of this, just posting on the off chance it's genuine:

    minerals BS.jpeg minerals BS 2.jpeg

As far as I can see it doesn't mention any amounts or quantities, locks the Orcs out. The real meat seems to be in a fund agreement which has yet to be created. Seems this might just be something Krasnov can wave in the air for posturing claiming he's a smart deal maker.

I'd say thats the agreement Zelenskey refused to sign

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭poop emoji

”United States intends to work with Ukraine to protect mutual interests”

    LOL

Zelensky proceeds to declare a 10 mile strip of land next to orcs an area of “mutual interest” needing protection by US

Is this the "$350bn" they've already received or another "$350bn"

The US will never be trusted again.

Trump has done massive damage to the country.

They are finished as any sort of global superpower.

If there is a new administration (big if), then its very unlikely they row back as any American company that goes in there will have sway in washington. To be honest, any company that goes in deserves to be bankrupted as much as Tesla.

Let's face it, the rest of the world would cheer if Ukraine were to sign anything that makes sure they can get everything they can need from America to assist in reclaiming their land and, once Russia has collapsed, then turned around and said "we'll be adhering to this agreement in the same spirit that America adhered to the Budapest Amendment: i.e. you'll get what we want to give you, on terms that suit us, Trump can do the same as the Russian warships and go **** himself.

Looks like Ukrainians recaptured half of Toretsk in last couple of days

yet again they show they can move in days distances that take Russians months

None. Our gas comes from the UK, and a dwindling amount from north-west Mayo.
