I can see why Ukrainian soldiers will be annoyed to say the least with a peace deal surrendering territory, particularly those from the occupied regions. But against the above figures any cessation of violence makes it very difficult for Putin to start up again. It also gives time for the EU to increase military spending something Russia will not be as capable of doing. The reality of a thrashed economy is something Putin will have to deal with. I wonder how much help his asset comrade Trump with give him.
That would have been my first taught also,but I don't think anything is off the cards anymore, Trump seems to be under a spell by putin and he could just spin any old bullshit to make it happen
Why would he do that? If he's not selling it in Europe, he's not selling it anywhere else for similar money. Why would he not want US to make money from sales?

Interesting deal coming on Friday, us gets mining rights, Ukraine get a deal on a percentage and Russia get a slice ,but having us companies on the ground, Russia won't attack, what a strange world we live in .
Trump announces a Gold Card, 5m and you can buy your way into American, with a path to citizenship . Again this sounds like it's for rich Russians , they will flood in, as spies, all paid for by the Kremlin

Benefitting the US and its people is a bit lower on the list of priorities (as we can all see with the craziness being unleashed right now).
Trump wouldn't care about something with a woman unless she was pegging him. My guess is it's got to do with kids. Given the stories surrounding him and Epstein, and his lusting after his own teenage daughter, it seems the most logical.
Yes, Trump doesn't give a flying fig about the war or the casualties, nor is Europe or Ukraine remotely a priority for him. His reasons for wanting the war to end are strictly financial and how much he can earn out of the deal.

In summary it seems like a nothing (and so Ukraine will also gain nothing from it).
The real meat of what is going on may be this budding US friendship with Russia. Don't think Trump gives a bollox about the war ending any more (if he ever did). I am a suspicious man and think his eye is on another prize.
I mean VV Putin is much richer than Musk even (supreme ruler of the largest, most resource-cursed/blessed country on Earth). Think what he can do for the Trump dynasty.
I expect the sanctions are going to end (but the war may not) and Russia's economy is going to get a big shot in the arm from Trump's America, and we know what the money will be used for (making weapons and creating piles of corpses in Ukraine).
Then Trump would go down in the history books as the most mindless, daft, birdbrainded President , not only in American, but the world.

But what have Ukraine to lose. Ukraine won't sign this deal without getting something they want in return such as military aid. If America don't uphold their end Ukraine can pull out of it. Imo it will involve American aid continuing. It's currently paused because trump wants to force their hand into signing before resuming.
There will be no minerals dug up in Ukraine in the next 4 years.

Ukraine have been sold down the river. Russia will re organize and go again for the whole of Ukraine in a few years while Trump is still president.

Hmmm … I think Zelenskyy is crafty enough to sell Trump a pup. And Trump is stupid enough to buy one from him.
As long as Ukraine isn't on the hook for all their usuable resources in the western part of the country, it might make sense for Zelenskyy to promise the mining rights to whatever's under the Donbas' soil if the Mericans are prepared to move in and dig it up. Naturally they might first have to push the Russians out beyond the '22 border, and let the Ukrainian security services have free run of the place, so as to avoid accidentally being targetted by drones. Oh, and also clear all the unexploded ordnance from the roads, fields and buildings so as to be able to access the various sites and set up operations …
On the other hand, AFAIK we haven't seen or heard details of anything to do with this plan from sources other than the US, which these days is about as reliable as RT or Tass.
Hints of the deal seem to revolve around reconstruction rather than security - as in minerals for reconstruction. Which would probably work in conjunction with a peace deal.

Wait, I'm a bit confused about this whole minerals thing.
On the one hand, I've heard people say that most of the minerals are on Ukrainian territory currently occupied by Russian forces, but if that's the case, then why is Zelensky prepared to sign a deal on resources that he doesn't control? Is there many more mineral deposits in free Ukraine or is Zelensky just saying that he's not going to protest the Russian mining of these minerals on occupied territory?
