as in you think they shouldn’t be allowed?, I’m in a case where I got very short notice about the intake and my current job I wouldn’t have gave them enough notice, so I will be hoping il be in the next intake

nothing about this whole process makes sense..

I think the conditional offers are sent out after unconditional offers to fill space in the intake if numbers aren’t great. Therefore by June there might not be as many spaces to fill and so they won’t give out the same amount of conditional offers

I meant that in my opinion after a person defers an intake they should be automatically getting an offer for the next intake. Especially when they give you very little notice. It seems like a punishment for deferring, they make you wait 2-3 intakes for another offer. It also doesn’t make sense that you can’t get a second conditional offer and that once you refuse it you have to wait until your vetting is done. Absolutely, nothing makes sense about this process!

123_123 probably but it still doesn’t make sense why people who defer dont get an offer for the following intake.

yea when they defer the conditional offers that is likely why but still baffled with the unconditional offers

When we are stationed for 12 weeks in stage two of training do we have to do this close to home?

    Not necessarily…

Ive heard they will endeavor to have you close to where you are from.. but you could be posted anywhere except maybe in certain circumstances.. such as if you have kids and family dependents they will post you there etc.. ( I've heard this from other Garda but thats word of mouth, not gospel )

so your not allowed stay at the college on the weekends..how does this work for someone who lives a good bit away from templemore and relies on public transport..

Did anyone actually confirm that you cannot stay at the college the weekends?

ya it was confirmed on the break the ice zoom call with the college

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Freddie02

I wasnt invited to break the ice zoom call . I'm starting March 10th . They must be doing it in batches ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭boards_24

ya I’d say they are, I’m sure you’ll get an email about it soon.

In my case it was PCT Sat, medical the following Thursday. I was surprised at the quick turnaround though, given the issues some have had in terms of being kept waiting for so long, I'd say I was just lucky!

Like i really have to ask HOW, can this be the biggest.. The amount of people waiting to be called, including those who had to defer "conditional offers" … like how is it more than 200….

Im puzzled considering the issues with vetting and everything included

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭Raven135

I think they said its close to 200, probably alot of 22,23 and some 24 candidates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 t124456677899

I don't think there is going to be a lot of 22 and 23 candidates. I have only heard of one person from 22 who got an offer for March and there’s a lot of us still waiting. And 22 and 23 don't get conditional offers. Mostly 2024 I’d say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 t124456677899

same here waiting since 2022 and if I don’t get March I’ll probably resign. Pitty we can’t get conditional offers like the 24 candidates

that’s very unfair you are left waiting this long, if they would tell applicants what or where the hold up is on the vetting, the applicants might be able to help get that particular piece of info..

It was all kicking off in the Daily earlier about the Garda recruitment and the whole length of time some applicant’s vetting is taking. Maybe it will spark some movement on it…

IS that what that was about???

God i was going mad.. I thought i had heard they were not impressed about Garda being offered Trainee places without being fully vetted…. or is that what you are saying? Or were you saying they are arguing that its taking too long ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 t124456677899

I hope so but at this stage I’m pretty resigned. There’s many people still waiting since 2022. You’d think that the 22 and 23 would get the „conditional offers” before the 24 as our vetting are mostly complete and in the late stages. It’s very unfair to us. I was never in any trouble with the guards and don’t have a criminal record. I have no idea what’s holding up my vetting. I will be leaving a well paid job for this as it’s my dream to become a member of the Garda Siochanna and went to great lengths to qualify and do well. It’s very disappointing.

There has to be a concern with a relatives history that is holding it up. That's my own opinion. Some skeletons in the closet of a relative perhaps that is unbeknownst to you.

it was a bit of both, the length of time for vetting and the conditional offers also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 TonyTiger100

Is productivity and work rate / ethic of the people, department or company carrying out vetting being measured? Cause its vetting that is shambles and making a joke out of garda recruitment

For people to be waiting 2 or so years for vetting to be complete and then told their vetting needs to start again is preposterous

If people are looking for the productivity of vetting staff to be measured, perhaps AGS isn't the career for them

    This makes no sense

Holding people to account is exactly what AGS do 👍🏻

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 t124456677899

TonyTiger100 Exactly. Waiting 2 years for your vetting to complete is outrageous. Especially when I’m one of many who are waiting this long. Somebody is obviously doing something wrong, whichever department it is. The process isn’t efficient or fair and something should be done about it. The issue is that whenever I email various Garda departments, including emailing the Garda Commisioner I’m being forwarded back to the Appointment office and they give me the same answer: that there is no update and they will contact me once they have an update. I’ve tried TDs too and nobody was able to help.

Like I said, perhaps it's not the career for you

It shouldn't take 2/3 years to check anyone's history. They should tell them yes or no and everyone can move on. There can't be any jusfication for leaving somebody in no man's land indefinitely
